Hedonism is a school of thought that argues that pleasure is the primary or most important intrinsic good.
A hedonist strives to maximize net pleasure (pleasure minus pain).
Ethical hedonism is the idea that all people have the right to do everything in their power to achieve the greatest amount of pleasure possible to them, assuming that their actions do not infringe on the equal rights of others. It is also the idea that every person's pleasure should far surpass their amount of pain. Ethical hedonism is said to have been started by Aristippus of Cyrene, a student of Socrates. He held the idea that pleasure is the highest good.
The name derives from the Greek word for "delight" (ἡδονισμός hēdonismos from ἡδονή hēdonē "pleasure", cognate with English sweet + suffix -ισμός -ismos "ism"). The Greek word coming from ancient Assyrian word "ḫadûtu" meaning: delight.
In the original Old Babylonian version of the Epic of Gilgamesh, which was written soon after the invention of writing, Siduri gave the following advice "Fill your belly. Day and night make merry. Let days be full of joy. Dance and make music day and night [...] These things alone are the concern of men", which may represent the first recorded advocacy of a hedonistic philosophy.
Skunk Anansie are a British band whose members include Skin (lead vocals), Cass (guitar, bass, backing vocals), Ace (guitar, backing vocals) and Mark Richardson (drums and percussion).
Skunk Anansie formed in March 1994, disbanded in 2001 and reformed in 2009. The name "Skunk Anansie" is taken from Akann folk tales of Anansi the spider-man of Ghana, with "Skunk" added to "make the name nastier".
They have released six studio albums: Paranoid & Sunburnt (1995), Stoosh (1996), Post Orgasmic Chill (1999), Wonderlustre (2010), Black Traffic (2012) and Anarchytecture (2016); one compilation album, Smashes and Trashes (2009); and several hit singles, including "Charity", "Hedonism", "Selling Jesus" and "Weak".
They are often grouped as part of a Britrock movement, running alongside Britpop. The band, in 2004, was named as one of the most successful UK chart acts between 1952 and 2003 by the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles & Albums, with a total of 141 weeks on both the singles and album charts ranking them at No. 491. When the book first published this annual top 500 list in 2000, it only involved weeks spent on the singles chart until 2004's 17th edition, meaning the band's highest ranking has not been notified in any of the past editions.
Hedonism II is an adults only vacation resort in Jamaica, owned and operated by Marshmallow Ltd, headed by Harry Lange and CEO Jon Gross of Unwind Travel and the lifestyle group The Fluffernutters. The resort has areas reserved for naturism and it is known for liberal sexual, drug, and alcohol attitudes; children are not allowed at the resorts. As of 2012, only Hedonism II is in operation. There was never a Hedonism I, and Hedonism III closed in 2010.
Hedonism II opened in 1976 as "Negril Beach Village" and was given its current name in 1982. The resort was built by the Government of Jamaica at a cost of $10 million. The resort occupies 22 acres (89,000 m2) at the northern end of Negril beach and has 280 rooms in two-story buildings. A 50% interest in the hotel was bought by the SuperClubs in 1989. SuperClubs purchased the remaining 50% of the resort in 1999 from the Financial Sector Adjustment Company Limited (FINSAC), a unit of the Government of Jamaica, for $12.25 million. In November 2012, the resort was sold to Marshmallow Ltd headed by members of a lifestyle group called The Fluffernutters with a minority stock held by the Issa family and Kevin Levee, a 28-year employee of SuperClubs and the current general manager of the resort.

The philosopher Peter Singer discusses the dilemma of seeking a life without pain. Question: What is the hedonistic paradox? Peter Singer: The hedonistic paradox is something that ancient philosophers were aware of and what they pointed out that people who directly aim at pleasure, it's where the term hedonism comes from, people who directly point out at pleasure seldom get it. They end up finding the things they thought would give them pleasure, not satisfying, not pleasing to them. On the other hand, people who don't aim at pleasure but aim at something else, some activity that's worthwhile in itself and they get absorbed in the moment of doing what they're doing and what the psychologists are calling the flow. They actually get enjoyment of fulfillment out of it so the paradox o...

When a charismatic former alcoholic named Shaft had his life changed by Burning Man, he realized that he actually identifies as a unicorn. No longer able to face the monotony of work and life in the real world, he decided to form a polyamorous and hedonistic movement with other like-minded unicorns. Donning glittery horns and galloping through London's streets, Shaft's unicorns set about trying to create a free-love utopia. But as the unicorn revolution begins to clash with the realities of life and love, some of the "glampede" became disillusioned, and Shaft's reasons for starting this whole thing came into question. Is this the hedonistic, free love revolution we were promised in the 60s? Or is it as fake as the unicorn horns they wear, a desperate and clever ploy by Shaft to escape h...

A lecture on hedonism for my Introduction to Philosophy class at NUS.
I hope you're feeling happy now
I see you feel no pain at all it seems
I wonder what you're doin' now
I wonder if you think of me at all
do you still play the same moves now
or are those special moods
for someone else
I hope you're feeling happy now
just because you feel good
doesn't make you right
just because you feel good
still want you here tonight
does laughter still discover you
I see through all the smiles
that look so right
do you still have the same friends now
to smoke away your problems and your life
oh how do you remember
me the one that made
you laugh until you cried
I hope yo're feeling happy now
just because you feel good doesn't make you right
just because you feel good still want you here tonight
I wonder what you're donig now
I hope you're feeling happy now
I hope you're feeling happy now
