In this video we take a look at the recently refreshed GMC Acadia. Most of the refresh took place in the styling department, so rest assured this video is relevant for older GMC Acadias and its platform mates the Buick Enclave and Chevy Traverse.
As an amateur car reviewer, I'll give you a real world, practical, unscripted analysis without the fluff of other automotive channels.
In this review we'll look at fuel economy, passenger space and seating layouts, rear cargo space behind the third row and all the other key aspects of the Acadia.

Less Weight, Less Engine
Smaller and lighter, the Acadia no longer requires a V-6 engine, at least according to GMC. For 2017, the base engine is now a 194-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder. A 3.6-liter V-6, newer than the outgoing Acadia’s similarly sized V-6, will be optional and is estimated to produce 310 horsepower. Official EPA fuel-economy estimates haven’t been released, but General Motors says the front-drive four-cylinder Acadia, which comes with a stop-start feature, will achieve 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, impressive figures for a three-row. The front-drive six-cylinder, alternatively, will be good for 17/25 mpg with the help of Active Fuel Management, which can shut down some cylinders to save fuel.

Acadia
Acadia (French: Acadie) was a colony of New France in northeastern North America that included parts of eastern Quebec, the Maritime provinces, and modern-day Maine to the Kennebec River. During much of the 17th and early 18th centuries, Norridgewock on the Kennebec River and Castine at the end of the Penobscot River were the southern-most settlements of Acadia. The actual specification by the French government for the territory refers to lands bordering the Atlantic coast, roughly between the 40th and 46th parallels. Later, the territory was divided into the British colonies which became Canadian provinces and American states. The population of Acadia included members of the Wabanaki Confederacy and descendants of emigrants from France (i.e., Acadians). The two communities inter-married, which resulted in a significant portion of the population of Acadia being Métis.

GMC Acadia
The GMC Acadia is a full-size crossover utility vehicle (CUV) from GMC. The GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Traverse, and Buick Enclave share the new GM Lambda platform. The Acadia went on sale in the United States in December 2006, and in Canada in January 2007. The Acadia replaces three of the 7- or 8-seater vehicles on the Pontiac-Buick-GMC dealership network, the mid-size GMC Safari van, the GMC Envoy, and the Pontiac Montana SV6 minivan for the domestic market. As of 2009, the Lambda vehicles have replaced the Buick Rainier, Buick Rendezvous, and the Buick Terraza, and then subsequently the GMC Envoy and the Chevrolet TrailBlazer. A Denali version of the Acadia debuted in 2010 as a 2011 model. In 2016, the second generation Acadia was repositioned as a mid-size crossover utility vehicle (as a 2017 model) in order to compete within the growing mid-size CUV market against the likes of the Ford Edge and Dodge Journey.
First generation
The Acadia represents GMC's entry-level truck-like CUV and is the first unibody vehicle from the marque. It is also GMC's first front-wheel drive passenger vehicle and GMC's first crossover utility vehicle (CUV). GMC's first front wheel drive vehicle was the mid-1970s motorhome, a recreational vehicle that used derivative of the GM E platform from the Cadillac Eldorado and Oldsmobile Toronado.

Smaller and lighter, the Acadia no longer requires a V-6 engine, at least according to GMC. For 2017, the base engine is now a 194-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder. A 3.6-liter V-6, newer than the outgoing Acadia’s similarly sized V-6, will be optional and is estimated to produce 310 horsepower. Official EPA fuel-economy estimates haven’t been released, but General Motors says the front-drive four-cylinder Acadia, which comes with a stop-start feature, will achieve 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, impressive figures for a three-row. The front-drive six-cylinder, alternatively, will be good for 17/25 mpg with the help of Active Fuel Management, which can shut down some cylinders to save fuel.

As a contemporary crossover designed for families on the go, the 2017 Acadia offers the latest active safety features to protect them, as well as the latest technologies to keep them connected.

Loop Road is a scenic route that travels from coast to countryside and passes a picturesque and charming semi-timbered house, the Jordan Pond Gate House, built by John D. Rockefeller in1932. Created from a glacier, Jordan Pond is relatively deep and at its northern end there are two round hills, the ‘Bubbles’ from the summit of which the vast landscape of the glowing forest below is even more impressive. Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on the North Atlantic coast. The scant vegetation of this area is quite surprising especially as it is in such close proximity to the nearby forests. During September, when the first so-called ‘leaf reports’ are announced in the newspapers and on television, there’s an air of excitement. The beginning of the Indian Summer is the time of the ‘Leaf Peepers.’ Whether they travel to the park by car, foot, horse and carriage or by way of a rented mountain bike, visitors to Acadia’s beautiful forests have a wide selection of leaves from which to choose. During fall, the red and orange of the maple trees and the golden yellow hues of aspen and birch melt together in a breathtaking carpet of colour that seems to cover the entire country. Acadia is a veritable arcadia!

The Acadia National Park is located in the North Eastern region of Maine in the United States and measures 142 square kilometres The close proximity of the North Atlantic Ocean to the coastal forest landscape is one of the park’s irresistible attractions.During fall, the season in which New England is at its most magnificent, the forests come alive with soft, warm colours and the entire landscape becomes transformed by this ‘fifth season’ of the year. Thunder Hole is a further attraction. Onlookers seem almost awe struck when witnessing the relentless might of the Atlantic and the unexpected sound of thunder that emanates from a small cave within the granite cliffs caused by the sea as it floods into the air-filled cave thus releasing the air pressure from within with fantastic, thunderous effect. Loop Road is a scenic route that travels from coast to countryside and passes a picturesque and charming semi-timbered house, the Jordan Pond Gate House, built by John D. Rockefeller in1932. Created from a glacier, Jordan Pond is relatively deep and at its northern end there are two round hills, the ‘Bubbles’ from the summit of which the vast landscape of the glowing forest below is even more impressive. Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on the North Atlantic coast. The scant vegetation of this area is quite surprising especially as it is in such close proximity to the nearby forests. During September, when the first so-called ‘leaf reports’ are announced in the newspapers and on television, there’s an air of excitement. The beginning of the Indian Summer is the time of the ‘Leaf Peepers.’ Whether they travel to the park by car, foot, horse and carriage or by way of a rented mountain bike, visitors to Acadia’s beautiful forests have a wide selection of leaves from which to choose. During fall, the red and orange of the maple trees and the golden yellow hues of aspen and birch melt together in a breathtaking carpet of colour that seems to cover the entire country. Acadia is a veritable arcadia!

Acadia National Park in Maine is the East Coast Version of Yosemite. A destination for millions of people annually it is also a great destination to take your RV or pack the tent and spend some days communing with nature. Tip 1 - Ditch the car or RV and take the free park shuttle. Driving throughout Acadia the shuttle provides access to all the popular spots without stress or worry.
Tip 2 - Hike the "bar" in Bar Harbor. At low tide a sand bar allows foot and vehicle traffic to cross to the island across the harbor. Even if you do not make it there is sea life right there. Hike the trails of Acadia! Seems simple enough but so many don't do it. plan on hiking at least one hill top route during your stay.
Tip 3 - Bring a bike. Acadia National Park is one of the most bike friendly parks in teh world. With 45 miles of carriage roads open to cycling the dirt paths allow you to discover the interior of the park by bike.
Tip 4 - Go in early September. Only one time during the year does the US Coast Guard allow you access to their lighthouses.
