Jamaica (i/dʒəˈmeɪkə/) is an island country situated in the Caribbean Sea, comprising the third-largest island of the Greater Antilles. The island, 10,990 square kilometres (4,240 sq mi) in area, lies about 145 kilometres (90 mi) south of Cuba, and 191 kilometres (119 mi) west of Hispaniola, the island containing the nation-states of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Jamaica is the fifth-largest island country in the Caribbean.
Previously inhabited by the indigenous Arawak and Taíno peoples, the island came under Spanish rule following the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1494. Named Santiago, it remained a possession of Spain until 1655, when England (later Great Britain) conquered the island and renamed it Jamaica. Under British rule, Jamaica became a leading sugar exporter, with its plantation economy highly dependent on slaves imported from Africa, followed later by Chinese and Indian indentured labour. All slaves were fully emancipated in 1838, with independence from the United Kingdom achieved on 6 August 1962.

New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.

Peter Metro (born Peter Clarke,Kingston, Jamaica, c.1960) is a reggae deejay, who released five albums in the 1980s.
Initially performing under the name Peter Ranking, he changed his name when he discovered that another deejay was using that name, and since he was resident deejay on the Metromedia sound system, he chose the name Peter Metro. His use of Spanish gained him many fans in South America, and he is acknowledged as the first multilingual reggae toaster. His work with Yellowman and Fathead on the albums Yellowman, Fathead, and the one Peter Metro (1982) and Live With Yellowman and Sassafrass (1984) kept his profile high through to the mid-1980s. He appeared at the Reggae Sunsplash festival in 1987 with English deejay Dominic, captured on the Reggae Sunsplash Dancehall X '87 video. In 1989, he appeared as a guest on the CD Bora Bora by the Brazilian rock band Os Paralamas do Sucesso. He performed the song "The Can" and "Don't Give Me That", the latter one being an anti-cocaine statement which made reference to Richard Pryor's mishap with crack in 1980.

May 7, 2015 Our last stop for the cruise was in Jamaica. We took a tour bus and went to Bluehole Falls and it was my first time cliff jumping and it took me awhile to jump. S our tour guide was Samantha and she was teaching us some few Jamaican words and it was really fun. I had the great pleasure to go on an adventure to Jamaica and capture Janique and Eric's destination wedding celebrations. It was my first time to Jamaica and I must admit I really LOVED it. It reminded me of Africa in more ways than one, and the hot weather and ocean water was so needed after shooting New Years Eve at -50C back here in Winnipeg... Doing destination weddings is becoming more and more popular with couples. With amazing deals from resorts and great local travel agencies it is way easier to do than you might think. Yes, it is impossible to have each and every person you would have invited to your local wedding come to a tropical destination, but the adventure of it all makes up for that. I was lucky enough to have some time to see Ocho Rios outside of the resort thank y...

Sumba is an island the size of Jamaica in the Indonesian archipelago that has been cut off from the rest of the world for so long that its ancient animistic traditions survive to this day. It is the setting for ritual battles called Pasola which take place every year in February and March. The Pasola is a fight between rival clans who hurl spears at each other on horseback in order to "fertilize" the soil with spilled human blood. This is volume seven of my personal tour journal. This video is a bit different than the rest. My tour originally had been scheduled to go through the south into Arkansas, but in Ohio, Chris invited me to travel with him to the East Coast where he and Rob Reid were planning on doing about a week of shows together. So we drove. A non-stop 24 hour drive (literally) from Murfreesboro, Tennessee to Boston. After the incredibly long drive, Chris and I crashed with Rob at his sisters' place in Jamaica Plain. After a solid night of sleep and some food (thanks for the pancakes Martin!), we moved on to Brunswick, Maine and camped out near Monmouth. One night we stopped at an awesome bar in Hallowell called, The Liberal Cup, where I had THE BEST oatmeal stout I've ever tasted. When we le...
At the Makka Pro International Surf Contest this summer the stakes were high. With 2016 marking the 10th staging of the event, organizers made the bold decision to celebrate this milestone by moving the competition from St. Thomas to Kingston. "The venue definitely mixes it up, keeps the competition on a higher level," explained Nathan Adams, a photographer with international surfing magazine - Eastern Surf Magazine. The two-day competition was held at the Wreck surfing beach on the Palisadoes strip in Kingston. Though a new location for the event, the Wreck has long been rooted in Jamaican surf history. In their 1912 travel guide, the Jamaica Tourist Association (now the Jamaica Tourist Board) listed Myrtle Bank Hotel as offering "...a launch [that] leaves, when required, for surf bathi...
