Edgecombe County, North Carolina

Edgecombe County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2010 census, the population was 56,552. Its county seat is Tarboro.

Edgecombe County is part of the Rocky Mount, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The county was formed in 1741 from Bertie County. It was named for Richard Edgcumbe, a Member of Parliament from 1701 to 1742 and a lord of the treasury, who became 1st Baron Edgcumbe in 1742.

In 1746 part of Edgecombe County became Granville County; in 1758 another portion became Halifax County; and in 1777 yet another part became Nash County. In 1855 the formation of Wilson County from parts of Edgecombe County, Johnston County, Nash County, and Wayne County reduced Edgecombe to its present size, with a minor boundary adjustments.

Edgecombe County was historically home to the Tuscarora Indians. Although most migrated north to New York in the 18th century, descendents of the Tuscarora still live in some parts of the county.

Danger Bay

Danger Bay is a Canadian television series, produced in Vancouver, with first-run episodes broadcast on CBC Television and The Disney Channel starting October 7, 1985. Reruns of the show continued on The Disney Channel until 1996. A total of 123 installments were filmed and ended in 1989. The series was perceived as wholesome, exciting fare for older children and adolescents, and continued to be seen through the 1990s in many countries worldwide.

The series followed the exploits of the Roberts family: marine veterinarian Grant "Doc" Roberts and his children, Nicole and Jonah. Nearly every 30-minute episode featured the Vancouver Aquarium. Most episodes focused on environmental issues such as pollution, wildlife endangerment, and forest preservation.

The series was also broadcast in Gibraltar (Danger Bay) Bulgaria (Опасният Залив), Poland (Niebezpieczna zatoka), Czechoslovakia (with Slovak dubbing - Nebezpečný záliv), Iceland (subtitled on state TV channel Sjónvarpið and named "Háskaslóðir"), Cuba (named Bahía Peligro), Trinidad & Tobago, Finland (subtitled and named "Vaarojen Lahti", Sweden (subtitled on state TV and named Äventyr i bukten), Germany, and the Netherlands (subtitled), Iran (گارد ساحلی), Iraq (ساحل المخاطر), and in France (named Cap Danger) in South Africa (Danger Bay).
