The Olmec were the first major civilization in Mexico following a progressive development in Soconusco. They lived in the tropical lowlands of south-central Mexico, in the present-day states of Veracruz and Tabasco. It has been speculated that Olmec derive in part from neighboring Mokaya and/or Mixe–Zoque.
The Olmec flourished during Mesoamerica's formative period, dating roughly from as early as 1500 BCE to about 400 BCE. Pre-Olmec cultures had flourished in the area since about 2500 BCE, but by 1600–1500 BCE, Early Olmec culture had emerged, centered on the San Lorenzo Tenochtitlán site near the coast in southeast Veracruz. They were the first Mesoamerican civilization and laid many of the foundations for the civilizations that followed. Among other "firsts", the Olmec appeared to practice ritual bloodletting and played the Mesoamerican ballgame, hallmarks of nearly all subsequent Mesoamerican societies.
The aspect of the Olmecs most familiar now is their artwork, particularly the aptly named "colossal heads". The Olmec civilization was first defined through artifacts which collectors purchased on the pre-Columbian art market in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Olmec artworks are considered among ancient America's most striking.

Hueco Tanks is an area of low mountains in El Paso County, Texas, in the United States. It is located in a high-altitude desert basin between the Franklin Mountains to the west and the Hueco Mountains to the east. Hueco is a Spanish word meaning hollows and refers to the many water-holding depressions in the boulders and rock faces throughout the region. Hueco Tanks is thus a redundant phrase. Due to the unique concentration of historic artifacts, plants and wildlife, the site is under protection of Texas law; it is a crime to remove, alter, or destroy them, although before the park was formed, considerable changes were attempted during private ownership. At one time, the site was the Escontrias Ranch. It was a stagecoach stop for the Butterfield Stage. The names of Texas Rangers and of US Cavalrymen, as well as Native American artifacts and paintings, attest to its historic nature.

Congratulations to Olmec Apparel Ltd co-founding owner, artist, and team climber, Hunter Damiani for sending his ultimate project "Butt Slammer" V12?!!! For about 5 years Hunter has been looking at the "Butt Slammer" project up Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder, Colorado and dreaming of the send. Yesterday he finally finished this classic problem! In 1973 or 74 legend Rob Candelaria made this first ascent of this gorgeous line rating it V5/6. Soon after Rob's FA several crucial holds broke severely increasing the difficulty and scare factor of the climb and the climb remained unrepeated for almost 40 years!! The climb has a very sketchy and dangerous fall at the top so after the break nobody wanted to risk the fall until Hunter!!! Congratulations Hunter we are super stoked for you and we could...
In Boulder, Colorado in the early 70's Rob Candelaria climbed a gorgeous red 45 degree overhanging face on Flagstaff Mtn. which he dubbed "Butt Slammer" V5/6 due to its treacherously dangerous butt slamming fall. After Rob's first ascent the climb broke several times severely increasing the difficulty and scare factor of the face and the "Butt Slammer" went unclimbed for 40 years until in November 9, 2013 when Olmec owner Hunter Damiani made the first modern ascent. Four months later the Olmec crew got together to do some bouldering in Boulder Canyon, and when we arrived at the boulder it was soaked, so we decided to cruise to "Butt Slammer" to see if anybody could snag the second ascent. Since Hunter's send nobody had really made any major progress beyond the first two moves as the pro...

Olmec athletes Cesar Valencia and Hunter Damiani (both being under 5'5") recently put in a "short man" team effort on an infamously reachy problem, "Capt'n Hook" at the Satellites in Boulder, CO. Hunter had passed the climb off years ago and figured he'd never send but Cesar never gave up and had been working to problem since he moved to Colorado. After the two tinkered with Cesar's beta a bit, adding some finishing touches; Cesar made a quick seemly effortless send. Hunter immediately borrowed Cesar's beta, his stoke and his extra pair of LaSportiva Solutions for the toe hooking and quickly surprised himself with a send. We are super stoked for both of you, we know Cesar had been trying this problem for years and Hunter just figured it wouldn't happen so congrats to the both! If you're...
