Film Threat

Film Threat was an online site that focused primarily on independent film, although it also reviewed DVDs of mainstream films and Hollywood movies in theaters. It first appeared as a photocopied zine in 1985, created by Wayne State University students Chris Gore and André Seewood. In 1997, Film Threat was converted to a solely online resource.

Beginning

The first initial issues of Film Threat combined pseudo-political ranting by Seewood and cinematic material and parody of mainstream film by Gore. In Gore’s own words, "I thought, Wouldn’t it be great to start a punk rock-attitude movie magazine—and then, the people from this magazine would eventually go off and make films. Wouldn’t it be great?"

In issue 9, Film Threat became a printed magazine, and it was also around this time that Seewood left the project to pursue independent filmmaking and to write seriously about the cinema. This second life of Film Threat included such classic moments as Gore and “Square Dance Instructor” Paul Zimmerman getting kicked out of the 1988 Toronto Film Festival, only to return the following year under fake names representing a fake publication, "Film Forum." In Issue 18 San Francisco State student David E. Williams wrote in, sparking a friendship with Gore that would lead to both of them relocating to Los Angeles in summer 1989 to work on the growing magazine.

Tony Jaa

Japanom Yeerum (Thai: จาพนม ยีรัมย์), formerly Tatchakorn Yeerum (Thai: ทัชชกร ยีรัมย์; rtgs: Thatchakon Yiram) or Phanom Yeerum (Thai: พนม ยีรัมย์; rtgs: Phanom Yiram;  [pʰanom jiːram]; born February 5, 1976), better known internationally as Tony Jaa, in Thailand as Jaa Phanom (Thai: จา พนม; rtgs: Cha Phanom), is a Thai martial artist, physical educator, actor, action choreographer, film producer, stuntman, director, and has spent time as a Buddhist monk. His films include Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior, Tom-Yum-Goong (also called Warrior King or The Protector), Ong-Bak 2: The Beginning, Ong Bak 3 and Tom Yum Goong 2 (or The Protector 2).

Early life

Tony Jaa was born in Surin province, Isan, Thailand, and was raised in a rural area in Surin. His hometown is 400 km from Bangkok. As he grew up he watched films by Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Vince Lam and Jet Li at temple fairs, which was his inspiration to learn martial arts. He was so inspired by them that while he was doing chores or playing with friends, he would imitate the martial arts moves that he had seen, practicing in his father's rice paddy.

Iko Uwais

Iko Uwais (born Qorny Uwais; February 12, 1983) is an Indonesian actor, stuntman, fight choreographer, and martial artist.

He is best known for starring in the action films Merantau (2009), The Raid: Redemption (2011), and The Raid 2 (2014), as well as a brief role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015).

Career

In 2007, Iko was discovered by director Gareth Evans, who was filming a documentary about silat in Iko's training hall. Iko's natural charisma and great camera presence encouraged Evans to cast him as the leading role for his first martial art movie, Merantau. After signing a five-year contract with Gareth Evans and his production company, Iko resigned from his daytime job as an operational driver in a telecom company, Esia.

In his first acting experience in Merantau, Iko played the role of a young Minang (West-Sumateran), which led him to learn the Minang style of silat harimau (tiger style) from Master Edwel Datuk Rajo Gampo Alam. Merantau was released in Indonesia on 6 August 2009. The film was featured in Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea and South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival in Austin, Texas with highly positive reviews. Merantau won the Best Film award at ActionFest 2010.

Threat

A threat is a communicated intent to inflict harm or loss on another person. A threat is considered an act of coercion. Threats (intimidation) are widely observed in animal behavior, particularly in a ritualized form, chiefly in order to avoid the unnecessary physical violence that can lead to physical damage or death of both conflicting parties.

Some of the more common types of threats forbidden by law are those made with an intent to obtain a monetary advantage or to compel a person to act against his or her will. In all US states, it is an offense to threaten to (1) use a deadly weapon on another person; (2) injure another's person or property; or (3) injure another's reputation.

Brazil

In Brazil, the crime of threatening someone, defined as a threat to cause unjust and grave harm, is punishable by a fine or three months to one year in prison, as described in the Brazilian Penal Code, article 147. Brazilian jurisprudence does not treat as a crime a threat that was proffered in a heated discussion.

Scott Adkins

Scott Edward Adkins (born 17 June 1976) is an English actor and martial artist who is best known for playing Yuri Boyka in Undisputed II: Last Man Standing and Undisputed III: Redemption, Bradley Hume in Holby City, Ed Russell in Mile High and as Hector in The Expendables 2. Adkins has also appeared in Dangerfield, Hollyoaks, The Tournament TV series and many others, as well as many films.

Early life

Scott Adkins was born at Sutton Coldfield, England, on 17 June 1976. He became interested in martial arts at the age of 10 when he and his father and older brother, Craig visited the local Judo club. His interest towards martial arts grew even more at age 14 when he adopted Bruce Lee as his idol. That same year, he started practicing taekwondo and received his first black belt at the age 19. Since age 16, Adkins has also trained in kickboxing which he holds black belt in. He also has trained in Ninjutsu, Judo, Karate, Jujutsu, Wushu, Krav Maga, Capoeira, Jeet Kune Do and gymnastics.
