But before that, Lynne's ELO performed a bit of "Evil Woman" on their own. Paul McCartney was clearly delighted to have a vintage hit at the Grammys -- the live feed captured him singing and clapping until he realized he was on camera and sheepishly sat down.
After that, Sheeran joined ELO for the immortal "Mr. Blue Sky. With Lynne and Sheeran trading vocals on the transcendent epic, it was a throwback Grammy moment that truly worked.

Long Wave, the more interesting and surprising of the two new albums, shows Lynne fondly paying tribute to the songs that shaped him. In remaking the likes of If I Loved You and Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered in his own musical image, he has accomplished what few of his standards-covering contemporaries have managed: made the originals beside the point.
If singers like Ella Fitzgerald and BIng Crosby have already tackled the Richard Rogers songs you're taking a whack at, or Roy Orbison has already sent chills up your spine with his own Running Scared, the most sensible option is to make them sound like Jeff Lynne songs. So break out the muddy, metronomic backbeats and the multiple guitar overdubs and celebrate.
Lynne doesn't limit his trip down memory lane to the pre-rock n' roll era. Apart from Orbison's pocket opera, Chuck Berry's Let It Rock and Don Covay's Mercy Mercy are tossed into the mix, sounding right at home.
The whole thing could have been a pointless exercise in the wrong hands, but Lynne brings enough unpretentious charm to the project to make it endlessly endearing. No one can touch Bobby Darin on Beyond the Sea, for example, but Lynne's joyous version actually brings something to the table.

Armchair Theatre is the first solo album by Jeff Lynne, released in 1990
"Every Little Thing" and "Lift Me Up" were released as singles. The album also features two classic cover versions "September Song" and "Stormy Weather" the latter recorded as a tribute to his late mother.[2] The album re-united Lynne with Electric Light Orchestra's keyboard player Richard Tandy and fellow Traveling Wilburys member George Harrison (both Harrison and the Wilburys were signed to Warner Bros. Records, parent of Reprise Records which released this album).
A 2013 remaster is set to be released on 19 April 2013 in the UK, and on 23 April 2013 in the US, and to include two bonus tracks, one of them previously unreleased.

Jeff Lynne
Jeffrey "Jeff" Lynne (born 30 December 1947) is an English songwriter, composer, arranger, singer, multi-instrumentalist and record producer who gained fame in the 1970s as the leader and sole constant member of Electric Light Orchestra. In 1988, under the pseudonyms Otis Wilbury and Clayton Wilbury, he co-founded the supergroup Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty.
After ELO's original disbandment in 1986, Lynne released two solo albums: Armchair Theatre (1990) and Long Wave (2012). In addition, he began producing various artists, with his songwriting and production collaborations with ex-Beatles leading him to co-produce their mid 1990s reunion singles "Free as a Bird" (1995) and "Real Love" (1996).
Musical career
Early life and career
Lynne grew up in the Shard End area of Birmingham, Warwickshire, where he attended Alderlea Boys' Secondary School. His first guitar, an acoustic instrument, was bought for him by his father, for £2. He was still playing it in 2012. In 1963 he formed a group with Robert Reader and David Walsh using little more than Spanish guitars and cheap electrical instruments to produce music. They were originally named "the Rockin' Hellcats" before changing to "the Handicaps" and finally to "the Andicaps". They practiced at Shard End Community Centre and performed weekly. However, in 1964, Robert Reader and David Walsh left the band and Lynne brought in replacements. At the end of 1964, Lynne decided to leave the band to replace Mick Adkins of the local band "the Chads".

Electric Light Orchestra
The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) are a British rock group from Birmingham, England. They were formed to accommodate Roy Wood's and Jeff Lynne's desire to create modern rock and pop songs with classical overtones. After Wood's departure following the band's debut record, Lynne wrote and arranged all of the group's original compositions and produced every album. In 2012, Lynne reformed the band under the moniker Jeff Lynne's ELO.
Despite early singles' success in the United Kingdom, the band was initially more successful in the United States, where they were billed as "The English guys with the big fiddles". From 1972 to 1986, ELO accumulated twenty Top 20 songs on the UK Singles Chart, and fifteen Top 20 songs on the US Billboard Hot 100. The band also holds the record for having the most Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 hits, 20, of any group in US chart history without having a number one single.
ELO collected 19 CRIA, 21 RIAA and 38 BPI awards, and sold over 50 million records worldwide during the group's original 13-year period of active recording and touring.

Mr. Blue Sky
"Mr. Blue Sky" is a song by British rock group Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), featured on the band's seventh studio album Out of the Blue (1977). Written and produced by frontman Jeff Lynne, the song forms the fourth and final track of the "Concerto for a Rainy Day" suite, on side three of the original double album. "Mr. Blue Sky" was the second single to be taken from Out of the Blue, peaking at number 6 in the UK Singles Chart and number 35 in the United States. The song was played as a wake-up call to astronaut Christopher Ferguson on Day 3 of STS-135, the final mission of Space Shuttle Atlantis.
Inspiration
In a BBC Radio interview, Lynne talked about writing "Mr. Blue Sky" after locking himself away in a Swiss chalet and attempting to write ELO's follow-up to A New World Record:
The song's arrangement has been called "Beatlesque", bearing similarities to Beatles songs "Martha My Dear" and "A Day in the Life".

The arrangement makes prominent use of a cowbell sound, although this is credited on the album, to percussionist Bev Bevan, as "fire extinguisher."

Jeff Lynne and Roy Woods gave acceptance speeches on the Barclay Center stage on April 7, 2017, broadcast by HBO on April 29, 2017. Keyboardist Richard Tandy who still maintains a current working relationship with Lynne and drummer Bev Bevan were not present to accept.

The whole thing could have been a pointless exercise in the wrong hands, but Lynne brings enough unpretentious charm to the project to make it endlessly endearing. No one can touch Bobby Darin on Beyond the Sea, for example, but Lynne's joyous version actually brings something to the table.

In 1977, Alex Katz created a monumental frieze featuring multistory headshots of glamorous women on the wraparound advertising space of a building at 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue in Times Square. It happened to be one of the very first projects of the Public Art Fund, which was founded that same year, and was also the first time that Katz had created a work on such a heroic scale; he later described it as "one of the big kicks" of his life. One of the most influential painters of our time, Katz came onto the New York art scene in the late 1950s, at the height of Abstract Expressionism, and his iconic style of painting took that movement's monumental proportions and flat surfaces into uncharted, representational territory. Characterized by reductive imagery and rich hues, Katz's vibrant canvases employ the most economic means to lovingly portray the people and places in his life, from Maine seascapes to New York cocktail parties, from portraits of poets and artists to his most famous subject, his wife, Ada. Interested in the gestures and colors that characterize a fleeting moment, Katz has said, "I'm just trying to see the world I live in, not the world that someone else lived in, to get into the present tense and see where I am."
Now in its thirteenth year, The Public Art Fund has produced this ongoing lecture series of presentations and discussions by some of today's most influential artists, critics, and curators, including Takashi Murakami, Jeff Koons, Rachel Whiteread, Matthew Barney, Gabriel Orozco, Pipilotti Rist, Tony Oursler, Catherine David, Kasper Konig, Okwui Enwezor, and Lynne Cook.

The studio has a 1937 Chickering 9' concert grand piano that has recently been rebuilt by Pacific Piano. The control room is 14' by 15'. Using a Mackie 24-8 input console, we also have 2 Avalon M5 mic pre's, an Avalon AD2055 stereo EQ, and an Avalon AD2044 stereo compressor. We have 2 DBX 160's. The monitoring system is JBL 6332's powered by an Alesis RA500 amp, and the low end is handled by a pair of JBL LSR6312SP subs. The room is tuned with a Behringer 31 band graphic EQ. The headphone monitoring system is a 16X12 Crest Audio XRM console enabling 6 separate stereo headphone mixes. We use Vic Firth "isolation headphones" to allow for complete control on each cue mix. The control room is completely wired with Monster Cable. There is also an 11' by 7' isolation booth, with sliding doors for complete visual contact, and a 7' by 3 1/2' vocal booth or amp "closet", also with a window for visual contact. Plenty of parking, wireless high speed internet, and a comfortable lounge. So break out the muddy, metronomic backbeats and the multiple guitar overdubs and celebrate.
Lynne doesn't limit his trip down memory lane to the pre-rock n' roll era. Apart from Orbison's pocket opera, Chuck Berry's Let It Rock and Don Covay's Mercy Mercy are tossed into the mix, sounding right at home.
The whole thing could have been a pointless exercise in the wrong hands, but Lynne brings enough unpretentious charm to the project to make it endlessly endearing. No one can touch Bobby Darin on Beyond the Sea, for example, but Lynne's joyous version actually brings something to the table.

Armchair Theatre is the first solo album by Jeff Lynne, released in 1990
"Every Little Thing" and "Lift Me Up" were released as singles. The album also features two classic cover versions "September Song" and "Stormy Weather" the latter recorded as a tribute to his late mother.[2] The album re-united Lynne with Electric Light Orchestra's keyboard player Richard Tandy and fellow Traveling Wilburys member George Harrison (both Harrison and the Wilburys were signed to Warner Bros. Records, parent of Reprise Records which released this album).
A 2013 remaster is set to be released on 19 April 2013 in the UK, and on 23 April 2013 in the US, and to include two bonus tracks, one of them previously unreleased.

Electric Light Orchestra Performed Evil Woman & Mr. Blue Sky at 2015 Grammys Award ft. Ed Sheeran
After Sheeran's bluesy "Thinking Out Loud" -- which paired the UK singer-songwriter with guitarist John Mayer, jazz legend Herbie Hancock and The Roots/Tonight Show drummer Questlove -- he joined the classic rock group for one of their signature hits. But before that, Lynne's ELO performed a bit of "Evil Woman" on their own. Paul McCartney was clearly delighted to have a vintage hit at the Grammys -- the live feed captured him singing and clapping until he realized he was on camera and sheepishly sat down. After that, Sheeran joined ELO for the immortal "Mr. Blue Sky. With Lynne and Sheeran trading vocals on the transcendent epic, it was a throwback Grammy moment that truly worked. Long Wave, the more interesting and surprising of the two new albums, shows Lynne fondly paying tribute to the songs that shaped him. In remaking the likes of If I Loved You and Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered in his own musical image, he has accomplished what few of his standards-covering contemporaries have managed: made the originals beside the point.
If singers like Ella Fitzgerald and BIng Crosby have already tackled the Richard Rogers songs you're taking a whack at, or Roy Orbison has already sent chills up your spine with his own Running Scared, the most sensible option is to make them sound like Jeff Lynne songs. So break out the muddy, metronomic backbeats and the multiple guitar overdubs and celebrate.
Lynne doesn't limit his trip down memory lane to the pre-rock n' roll era. Apart from Orbison's pocket opera, Chuck Berry's Let It Rock and Don Covay's Mercy Mercy are tossed into the mix, sounding right at home.
The whole thing could have been a pointless exercise in the wrong hands, but Lynne brings enough unpretentious charm to the project to make it endlessly endearing. No one can touch Bobby Darin on Beyond the Sea, for example, but Lynne's joyous version actually brings something to the table.

The album also features two classic cover versions "September Song" and "Stormy Weather" the latter recorded as a tribute to his late mother.[2] The album re-united Lynne with Electric Light Orchestra's keyboard player Richard Tandy and fellow Traveling Wilburys member George Harrison (both Harrison and the Wilburys were signed to Warner Bros. Records, parent of Reprise Records which released this album).
A 2013 remaster is set to be released on 19 April 2013 in the UK, and on 23 April 2013 in the US, and to include two bonus tracks, one of them previously unreleased.
