After a long wait, the DIY hamster cage is finally finished! 😊 The theme is "Rainforest" as it suited the cage supplies that were recently bought. There are many who helped inspire ideas that you see in this cage including my awesome friend Taxonomist, the members of Hamster Hideout, the German hamster community, and Rodipet. I have learned so much about natural cage themes the past few months and am thankful to those who provided tips, advice and inspiration! 😘
➡️ CAGE SIZE: 94.5"L x 40"W x 24"H (3780 sq. inches)
(240.03cm x 101.6cm x 60.96cm)
➡️ CAGE MATERIALS: Melamine wood, plexiglass, silicone
➡️ HOW IT WAS BUILT: (Video coming in future!)
➡️ BEDDING DEPTH: 10" in the deepest front sections; 3"- 6" throughout other parts of the cage; Minimal under heavy objects.
➡️ CAMERAS: Canon 60D + Canon G7xii
➡️ EDITOR: Avid Studio
🐹 Currently I do not have a hamster, but I will be looking to adopt when the time feels right to me. I am in no rush and felt it was important to prepare the cage first, so it's a great feeling to have that done with.
🌴 The cork tree, in the center of the cage, is hiding a PVC pipe which serves as an extra support and brace for the top shelf. I also added some fake greenery, which has been securely attached to the underneath of the shelf. I do not encourage anyone to integrate fake plants unless they are out of reach, secure, and won't fall in the cage. I did go through and check each individual stem to ensure that everything was attached properly. :) I will also do daily checks on the cage decor.

Guinea pig
The guinea pig (Cavia porcellus), also called the cavy or domestic guinea pig, is a species of rodent belonging to the family Caviidae and the genus Cavia. Despite their common name, these animals are not in the pig family, nor are they from Guinea. They originated in the Andes, and earlier studies based on biochemistry and hybridization suggested they are domesticated descendants of a closely related species of cavy such as Cavia aperea, C. fulgida, or C. tschudii and, therefore, do not exist naturally in the wild. Recent studies applying molecular markers, in addition to studying the skull and skeletal morphology of current and mummified animals, revealed that the ancestor is most likely Cavia tschudii.
The domestic guinea pig plays an important role in the folk culture of many Indigenous South American groups, especially as a food source, but also in folk medicine and in community religious ceremonies. Since the 1960s, efforts have been made to increase consumption of the animal outside South America.

Plot: In 1994, real-life crop artist Stan Herd traveled from Kansas to Manhattan's Upper West Side to create a massive environmental artwork on land owned by Donald Trump. The multi-acre artwork was made from soil, rock, plants and vegetation near an underground railway tunnel. Stan recruited a number of homeless individuals living in the tunnel to become his crew. Over the months it took to complete the earthwork, Stan dealt with a myriad of difficulties in bringing his unique, rural art form to an urban canvas and the many costs his art exacted upon his life. In the process, he unexpectedly encountered the true meaning of his art and it's ultimate, lasting rewards.

⬇️ MORE CAGE INFO BELOW ⬇️ After a long wait, the DIY hamster cage is finally finished! 😊 The theme is "Rainforest" as it suited the cage supplies that were recently bought. There are many who helped inspire ideas that you see in this cage including my awesome friend Taxonomist, the members of Hamster Hideout, the German hamster community, and Rodipet. After a long wait, the DIY hamster cage is finally finished! 😊 The theme is "Rainforest" as it suited the cage supplies that were recently bought. There are many who helped inspire ideas that you see in this cage including my awesome friend Taxonomist, the members of Hamster Hideout, the German hamster community, and Rodipet. I have learned so much about natural cage themes the past few months and am thankful to those who provided tips, advice and inspiration! 😘

🐹 Currently I do not have a hamster, but I will be looking to adopt when the time feels right to me. I am in no rush and felt it was important to prepare the cage first, so it's a great feeling to have that done with.
🌴 The cork tree, in the center of the cage, is hiding a PVC pipe which serves as an extra support and brace for the top shelf. I also added some fake greenery, which has been securely attached to the underneath of the shelf. I do not encourage anyone to integrate fake plants unless they are out of reach, secure, and won't fall in the cage. I did go through and check each individual stem to ensure that everything was attached properly. :) I will also do daily checks on the cage decor.

⬇️ MORE CAGE INFO BELOW ⬇️ After a long wait, the DIY hamster cage is finally finished! 😊 The theme is "Rainforest" as it suited the cage supplies that were recently bought. There are many who helped inspire ideas that you see in this cage including my awesome friend Taxonomist, the members of Hamster Hideout, the German hamster community, and Rodipet. 🐹 Currently I do not have a hamster, but I will be looking to adopt when the time feels right to me. I am in no rush and felt it was important to prepare the cage first, so it's a great feeling to have that done with.
🌴 The cork tree, in the center of the cage, is hiding a PVC pipe which serves as an extra support and brace for the top shelf. I also added some fake greenery, which has been securely attached to the underneath of the shelf. I do not encourage anyone to integrate fake plants unless they are out of reach, secure, and won't fall in the cage. I did go through and check each individual stem to ensure that everything was attached properly. :) I will also do daily checks on the cage decor.
