I am the teacher that I am today because of my students. I want to inspire the students today to aim higher than ever before and let them know that they have the power to inspire their peers, their teachers, their school and even the world. I want to remind teachers that their students can be their greatest inspiration. If we as an educational community connect to each student then they will work to meet our expectations and then it's up to us to reflect and see how this student made us a better teacher for future students. As a resource, inclusion, and self-contained Exceptional Children teacher and then a regular education Kindergarten teacher I am a better teacher for each child that I've had the privilege to teach. Many of the students I have learned more from them then they ever learned from me but each one Built a Better Teacher!
Brian Smith is a Catawba County native. He has been married to his wife, Liz, for over 15 years. His daughter, Ella, is 10 years old. He works for Newton-Conover City Schools and is a Top Teacher blogger for Scholastic. He also teaches several courses at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Brian has served as Vice President of the North Carolina branch of the International Dyslexia Association and is currently treasurer of the Catawba Valley Autism Society. He also is a board member for the Patrick Beaver Learning Resource Center. He has been featured on the Parent Trip podcast and The Mesh’s Storytime Station video series. In 2014 Brian was named Catawba Valley’s Best Elementary Teacher and recognized as one of the Top 10 Professionals Under 40. Brian
Brian (sometimes spelled Bryan) is a male given name of Irish and Breton origin, as well as a surname of Occitan origin. It is common in the English-speaking world. It is possible that the name is derived from an Old Celtic word meaning "high" or "noble". For example, the element bre means "hill"; which could be transferred to mean "eminence" or "exalted one". The name is quite popular in Ireland, on account of Brian Boru, a 10th-century king of Ireland. The name was also quite popular in East Anglia during the Middle Ages. This is because the name was introduced to England by Bretons following the Norman Conquest. Bretons also settled in Ireland along with the Normans in the 12th century, and 'their' name was mingled with the 'Irish' version. Also, in the north-west of England, the 'Irish' name was introduced by Scandinavian settlers from Ireland. Within the Gaelic speaking areas of Scotland, the name was at first only used by professional families of Irish origin. It was the fourth most popular male name in England and Wales in 1934, but a sharp decline followed over the remainder of the 20th century and by 1994 it had fallen out of the top 100. It retained its popularity in the United States for longer; its most popular period there was from 1968–1979 when it consistently ranked between eighth and tenth.

Portrait photography
Portrait photography or portraiture is photography of a person or group of people that displays the expression, personality, and mood of the subject. Like other types of portraiture, the focus of the photograph is usually the person's face, although the entire body and the background or context may be included.
History
The relatively low cost of the daguerreotype in the middle of the 19th century and the reduced sitting time for the subject, though still much longer than now, led to a general rise in the popularity of portrait photography over painted portraiture. The style of these early works reflected the technical challenges associated with long exposure times and the painterly aesthetic of the time. Subjects were generally seated against plain backgrounds and lit with the soft light of an overhead window and whatever else could be reflected with mirrors. Advances in photographic equipment and techniques developed, and gave photographers the ability to capture images with shorter exposure times and the making of portraits outside the studio.

Brian Smith is a Catawba County native. He has been married to his wife, Liz, for over 15 years. His daughter, Ella, is 10 years old. He works for Newton-Conover City Schools and is a Top Teacher blogger for Scholastic. He also teaches several courses at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Brian has served as Vice President of the North Carolina branch of the International Dyslexia Association and is currently treasurer of the Catawba Valley Autism Society. He also is a board member for the Patrick Beaver Learning Resource Center. He has been featured on the Parent Trip podcast and The Mesh’s Storytime Station video series. In 2014 Brian was named Catawba Valley’s Best Elementary Teacher and recognized as one of the Top 10 Professionals Under 40. Brian Smith is a Catawba County native. He has been married to his wife, Liz, for over 15 years. His daughter, Ella, is 10 years old. He works for Newton-Conover City Schools and is a Top Teacher blogger for Scholastic. He also teaches several courses at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Brian has served as Vice President of the North Carolina branch of the International Dyslexia Association and is currently treasurer of the Catawba Valley Autism Society. He also is a board member for the Patrick Beaver Learning Resource Center. He has been featured on the Parent Trip podcast and The Mesh’s Storytime Station video series. In 2014 Brian was named Catawba Valley’s Best Elementary Teacher and recognized as one of the Top 10 Professionals Under 40.
