Merch: My Mom got me this shirt to wear to the concert!

I left the show with a tour book for sure.

Memories:

I was quite young when this concert took place but believe it or not, was not my first concert. It was however, the first show that I wanted to go to and my Dad was cool enough to take me. I'm not sure what he expected but I do know it turned him into a fan. The Dynasty tour would also turn out to be the last with the original lineup until the reunion in 96. I don't have any exact memories from the show other than it changed my life forever. I went from loving music to having to play it myself and have never looked back.

Hall And Oates - Sept 2nd 2011

Hall And Oates - Sept 2nd 2011

City: Vancouver
Venue: PNE
Opener: None

Setlist:

Maneater
Family Man
Out Of Touch
Say It Isn't So
Adult Education
Las Vegas Turnaround
She's Gone
Sara Smile
I Can't Go For That
Rich Girl
You Make My Dreams
Kiss On My List
Private Eyes

Memories:

You think they could have thrown a couple of hits in there, eh? This was my first time seeing Hall And Oates last night and man were they great. Sure, maybe D went for some lower octaves here and there but he ain't 25 anymore and still sounded superb. Apart from Las Vegas Turnaround, this is probably everyones dream setlist with the only bummer being no Method Of Modern Love. A 12 minute I Can't Go For That felt like it was everyones highlight, but I had to wait for the very last song in the second encore for Private Eyes! Makes me regret a little bit that in 1985 I sold my tickets to their show in Toronto because my favourite band of all time, Big Country, who were due to open ended up pulling out of the tour. That was devastating to me at the time and couldn't bear going at all! But last night made up for it. Now fingers crossed that Big Country will come to North America on The Crossing anniversary tour next year! Anyhow, no ticket stub cause the show was free with admission to the PNE grounds but instead a picture that my girlfriend took at the show!

There's more of these videos up on Youtube...thanks to the poster!

Blur - Sept 28th 1994

Blur - Sept 28th 1994

Opener: Pulp

Setlist:

Sunday Sunday

Supa Shoppa
Mr. Robinson's Quango
Parklife
Girls & Boys
Bank Holiday
This Is A Low

Memories:

This was very early on in the Parklife campaign, hence the small venue. Now I've seen Blur probably 10 or 11 times and this was by far one of the best and most exciting. I remember getting a great spot center balcony and was really surprised by how great Pulp were. This was before Common People so they were a new band to many even though they had been around for some time at this point. As for Blur, Sunday Sunday is a great opening song. A ton of Parklife tracks and a rare Trouble In The Message Centre. Also, Mr. Robinson's Quango which wouldn't come out till the next album. And of course, as per usual, an epic This Is A Low. Also of note...the ticket says the 9th but the show took place on the 28th. I was confused myself at first cause I didn't remember this fact, but after some research, I found this.....

.....which would have been the following night so now it all makes sense!

I don't really remember much about the actual performance other than I really enjoyed it. I always loved shows upstairs at the Elmo and in the future I will post about EMF and Royal Trux which also took place on that legendary stage. I regret not getting a t-shirt because they were really cool. Also, my friends band Pony DaLook opened up the show. I will say that the one thing I do remember about this night was that Roland Gift was in the crowd! Yeah, the Fine Young Cannibals singer! That's what I remember most! I believe this show was broadcast but I'm not 100 per cent sure of the source of this recording. Have a listen....Roland Gift not included but you can close your eyes and picture him there!

Merch: Got the Tour program.

Memories:

This would be my second time seeing both Bowie and Duran, a dream bill for the late eighties that's for sure. The Duran set was great and a treat for them to throw in Power Station and Arcadia tracks along with some of their best singles. I'm pretty sure my friend Jason met Simon le Bon walking around the CNE grounds that day. As for Bowie, the Serious Moonlight tour blew my mind but the Glass Spider show was a little more difficult. True, one of the only times we'd get to hear Day-In Day-Out and Loving The Alien live, but the show itself, with all it's acting and dancing would have far more suited Massey Hall than in front of 70,000 people. So the theatrics got lost on me in the stadium setting, but the songs and the band and the man were great. It's Bowie for pete sake! I'm not sure if there is a recording of this show, (the Ottawa show is out there) but a bootleg of the Duran set exists. If anyone has this, please come forward! It looks like this...

....and from the poster for the venue, you can see that New Order/Echo & The Bunnymen show was also this summer which I also attended and will feature here at a later date.

The Chauffeur

Merch: I have the tour program. I bought a pin pack as well.

Memories:

This was my first Duran show. They filmed parts of The Reflex video at this gig and you can see my friend Jason dancing away in it, right next to a future girlfriend I hadn't met yet! Really loved Payola$ too, so that was an added bonus. I believe this was the second of two nights and the live version of Cracks In The Pavement from the Wild Boys single was recorded on the night I was there. Link is in the setlist...

And of course, here's the video they shot that night...
