José Jiménez (baseball)

José Jiménez (born July 7, 1973) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher for the Cleveland Indians, Colorado Rockies and St. Louis Cardinals.

St.Louis Cardinals, No-hitter

As a Cardinal, Jiménez threw a no-hitter against Randy Johnson and the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 25, 1999, beating them by a score of 1–0. He is one of the 20 rookie pitchers who have pitched a no-hitter in Major League history. In his second start after the no-hitter, he again opposed Johnson and the Diamondbacks, and he again triumphed, 1–0, while pitching a complete game. This time, he allowed two hits to the D-Backs. He would finish the 1999 season with a 5-14 record, a 5.85 ERA in 29 games (28 starts).

Colorado Rockies

Jiménez was acquired by the 2000 season and became a staple in the Rockies bullpen, transitioning from starter to closer. From 2000-2003 he collected 102 saves for the Rockies, becoming the all time saves leader in the Rockies franchise. He set a franchise record 41 saves in 2002, while having an ERA of 3.56 despite having a record of 2-10. The following season he swung back into a starter, making 7 starts and 20 saves for the Rockies, but ballooned his ERA to 5.22 and again having a record of 2-10.

José Jiménez (character)

José Jiménez was a fictional character created and performed by comedian Bill Dana on The Steve Allen Show in 1959 and who became increasingly popular during the 1960s. This character introduced himself with the catch phrase: "My name...is José Jiménez". Dana played Jose in three non-variety shows: Make Room For Daddy, which spun off The Bill Dana Show, and a cameo in an episode of Batman ("The Yegg Foes in Gotham", 20 October 1966).

Astronaut

During the course of his José Jiménez acts, Bill Dana (who is of Hungarian-Jewish ancestry, unlike the Mexican character he played) took his character through various roles including elevator operator, sailor, and submariner until settling into the most famous occupation that José would hold: astronaut.

María José (singer)

María José (born January 12, 1976) is a singer, ballet and flamenco dancer, and athlete. She has a B.A. in communications. She is well known and established within the music industry since she was part of a very popular pop-singing band in Mexico, Kabah, from the mid to late 1990s.

Her first experience on stage was at age 14 as a dancer in the Spanish Dance Company led by Maria Elena Anaya. She remained in the dance company participating with flamenco songs as well.

Career as a solo singer

During 2007, Maria Jose posed for the cover of MAX magazine, the equivalent of Maxim in the US.

She opened for Gwen Stefani's The Sweet Escape Tour in Mexico. This part of the tour included concerts in Arena Monterrey in Monterrey and in Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. She also appeared in the Reventour, a series of concerts in several places in Mexico, both as a singer and as a host.

In late July, she was part of an American tour with LU and Motel and announced the release of her first album in August in the United States, which she promoted extensively. She was also invited to participate in Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar, the Mexican musical based on the career and songs of the Spanish pop group Mecano.

María José is an EP by María José Castillo, released in 2008 by Sony BMG Latin America. It has been certified Gold for selling +5,000 copies. It is often considered as only an EP because it only has six tracks and has not enough length to be an album. Sometimes it is considered as an album, although María José is an EP.

Album information

Initially set for a December 2, 2008, release, the album was pushed up to November 28, 2008. María José was released on November 26 because of the finishing of the album earlier than expected. The album was originally set to be released only on Costa Rica and then making a major studio album and releasing it in more selected countries, but later it was released in various other countries. The album is mostly a cover album, covering four of her songs performed on Latin American Idol, but it has two tracks that were written for Castillo and her partner Margarita Henríquez. The album along with Henríquez album, has been successful on its home country, but it was failure internationally. But later on December the album got more promotion on other countries, and the sales got higher.
