Remembering J. Michael Riva: The Production Design of Django Unchained

It was pure creative joy bringing these beautiful boards to life for Skoda and Leagas Delaney Praha. Luma directors Paul Meyer and Chris Wieffering supervised the creative production process from start to end as we had the once-in a lifetime experience of shooting inside the Skoda Factory, IT Center and the Skoda Design Center.
Luma worked very closely with Black & Biscuit as the live action shoot was locally produced by Jiri and Katka who went our of their way to make us feel at home, and with help from our local host Petr Oplatka (agency producer for Leagas Delaney) we got to sample the local Czech hospitality - they made us feel like honorary Czech citizens!
Tereza Osláčová who plays the designer in this spot gave one strong performance after another - her professional consistency sometimes made it hard to choose a favorite between the takes.

Production designer
In film and television, a production designer or P.D is the person responsible for the overall look of a filmed event such as a TV program, video game, music video, or advertisement. Production designers have a key creative role in the creation of motion pictures and television. Working directly with the director and producer, they must select the settings and style to visually tell the story. The term "production designer" was coined by William Cameron Menzies while he was working on the film Gone with the Wind. Previously (and often subsequently) the people with the same responsibilities were called "art directors".
Societies and trade organizations
In the United States and Europe as well as Mexico, production designers are represented by IATSE local 800; the Art Directors Guild. The production design credit must be requested by the producer, prior to completion of photography, and submitted to the Art Directors Guild Board of Directors for the credit approval. In Canada, production designers are represented by the Director's Guild of Canada, except in British Columbia where they are represented by IATSE.

20th century
The 20th century was a century that began on January 1, 1901 and ended on December 31, 2000. It was the tenth and final century of the 2nd millennium. It is distinct from the century known as the 1900s (sometimes written as 19XX), which began on January 1, 1900 and ended on December 31, 1999.
Dubbed the "short twentieth century", this century in human history was dominated by chain of events that heralded significant changes in world history as to redefine the era: World War I and World War II, nationalism and decolonization, the Cold War and Post-Cold War conflicts, cultural homogenization through developments in transportation and communications technology, world population growth, awareness of environmental degradation, ecological extinction and the birth of the Digital Revolution. It saw great advances in communication and medical technology that by the late 1980s allowed for near-instantaneous worldwide computer communication and genetic modification of life.
Overview
The century had the first global-scale total wars between world powers across continents and oceans in World War I and World War II. Nationalism became a major political issue in the world in the 20th century, acknowledged in international law along with the right of nations to self-determination, official decolonization in the mid-century, and nationalist-influenced armed regional-conflicts.

Designer
A designer is a person who designs. More formally, a designer is an agent that "specifies the structural properties of a design object". In practice, anyone who creates tangible or intangible objects, such as consumer products, processes, laws, games, graphics, services and experiences is referred to as a designer.
Classically, the main areas of design were only painting, sculpture and architecture, which were understood as the major arts. The design of clothing, furniture and other common artifacts were left mostly to tradition or artisans specializing in hand making them.
With the increasing complexity of today’s society, and due to the needs of mass production where more time is usually associated with more cost, the production methods became more complex and with them the way designs and their production is created. The classical areas are now subdivided in smaller and more specialized domains of design (landscape design, urban design, exterior design, interior design, industrial design, furniture design, cloth design, and many more) according to the product designed or perhaps its means of production.

It was pure creative joy bringing these beautiful boards to life for Skoda and Leagas Delaney Praha. Luma directors Paul Meyer and Chris Wieffering supervised the creative production process from start to end as we had the once-in a lifetime experience of shooting inside the Skoda Factory, IT Center and the Skoda Design Center. Luma worked very closely with Black & Biscuit as the live action shoot was locally produced by Jiri and Katka who went our of their way to make us feel at home, and with help from our local host Petr Oplatka (agency producer for Leagas Delaney) we got to sample the local Czech hospitality - they made us feel like honorary Czech citizens! It was pure creative joy bringing these beautiful boards to life for Skoda and Leagas Delaney Praha. Luma directors Paul Meyer and Chris Wieffering supervised the creative production process from start to end as we had the once-in a lifetime experience of shooting inside the Skoda Factory, IT Center and the Skoda Design Center.
Luma worked very closely with Black & Biscuit as the live action shoot was locally produced by Jiri and Katka who went our of their way to make us feel at home, and with help from our local host Petr Oplatka (agency producer for Leagas Delaney) we got to sample the local Czech hospitality - they made us feel like honorary Czech citizens!
Tereza Osláčová who plays the designer in this spot gave one strong performance after another - her professional consistency sometimes made it hard to choose a favorite between the takes.

It was pure creative joy bringing these beautiful boards to life for Skoda and Leagas Delaney Praha. Luma directors Paul Meyer and Chris Wieffering supervised the creative production process from start to end as we had the once-in a lifetime experience of shooting inside the Skoda Factory, IT Center and the Skoda Design Center. Luma worked very closely with Black & Biscuit as the live action shoot was locally produced by Jiri and Katka who went our of their way to make us feel at home, and with help from our local host Petr Oplatka (agency producer for Leagas Delaney) we got to sample the local Czech hospitality - they made us feel like honorary Czech citizens! It was pure creative joy bringing these beautiful boards to life for Skoda and Leagas Delaney Praha. Luma directors Paul Meyer and Chris Wieffering supervised the creative production process from start to end as we had the once-in a lifetime experience of shooting inside the Skoda Factory, IT Center and the Skoda Design Center.
Luma worked very closely with Black & Biscuit as the live action shoot was locally produced by Jiri and Katka who went our of their way to make us feel at home, and with help from our local host Petr Oplatka (agency producer for Leagas Delaney) we got to sample the local Czech hospitality - they made us feel like honorary Czech citizens!
Tereza Osláčová who plays the designer in this spot gave one strong performance after another - her professional consistency sometimes made it hard to choose a favorite between the takes.
