Penang is a state in Malaysia located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia, by the Strait of Malacca.
Penang state is bordered by Kedah in the north and east, and Perak in the south. It is composed of two parts — Penang Island, where the seat of government is, and Seberang Perai (formerly Province Wellesley in English) on the Malay Peninsula.
Highly urbanised and industrialised, Penang is one of the most developed and economically important states in the country, as well as a thriving tourist destination. Penang has the third-highest Human Development Index in Malaysia, after the state of Selangor and the federal territory of Kuala Lumpur. Its heterogeneous population is highly diverse in ethnicity, culture, language and religion. A resident of Penang is colloquially known as a Penangite (in English),Penang lang (in the local Penang Hokkien dialect) or a Penangkaran (In Tamil)
The name of "Penang" comes from the modern Malay name Pulau Pinang, which means "island of the areca nut palm" (Areca catechu, family Palmae). The name Penang may refer either to the island of Penang (Pulau Pinang) or the state of Penang (Negeri Pulau Pinang). In Malay, Penang's capital George Town was called and labelled in old maps as Tanjung Penaga (Cape Penaigre), named after the many ballnut trees (also known as Alexandrian laurels, Calophyllum inophyllum) on the coast, but now usually shortened as Tanjung (the Cape).
Penang Island (Malay: Pulau Pinang; Chinese: 檳榔嶼 Tamil:பினாங்கு தீவு) is part of the state of Penang, on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It was named Prince of Wales Island when it was occupied by the British East India Company on 12 August 1786, in honour of the birthday of the Prince of Wales, later King George IV. The capital, George Town, was named after the reigning King George III.
Malaysia has another island called "Pulau Pinang", which is a diving site located in South China Sea and part of the Johor Marine Park, which consists of a group of islands: Pulau Aur, Pulau Dayang, Pulau Lang, and Pulau Pinang itself.
Penang was originally part of the Malay Sultanate of Kedah. On 11 August 1786, Captain Francis Light of the British East India Company landed in Penang and renamed it Prince of Wales Island in honour of heir to the British throne. Light then received it as a portion on his marriage to the daughter of the Sultan of Kedah. Light ceded Penang to the Government of India and promised the Sultan military protection from Siamese and Burmese armies who were threatening Kedah. Light is now credited as the founder of Penang.
Ernest Zacharevic (born 1986 in Lithuania) is a multidiscipline contemporary and public artist based in Penang, Malaysia.
Zacharevic creates oil paintings, installations, sculptures and stencil and spray paint to produce culturally relevant compositions both inside gallery space and in the arena of public art and walls His interest in the outdoor pieces is in the interaction between mural and the urban landscape, with concepts arising as part of a spontaneous response to the environment.
In 2012, Zacharevic received worldwide recognition after creating a series of six street art murals for the George Town Culture festival in Penang, Malaysia, with the BBC calling him Malaysia's answer to Banksy. These images depict scenes of everyday Malaysian life using local people as the models. The two most popular are Children on Bicycle and Boy on Motorcycle; a combination of installation and painting allows the outside community to interact with the works. These murals now stand as cultural landmarks in Georgetown, complete with plaques and constant cues of people waiting to have their photographs taken with the works.

After our trip to Langkawi, we headed to Georgetown, in Penang, Malaysia. One day we walked around and did all these things in a single day. More coming on: http://migrationology.com/ Penang, Malaysia is an island just off the coast of the West Coast of Malaysia. It’s one of the most famous areas of Malaysia, especially known for its rich and diverse culture and for its food - many people come to Penang just to eat - as did I. Ying and I arrived to Penang from Langkawi, and we stayed in Penang for about a week, doing some work, and eating out way through the city. One day though, we decided to put on our shoes and go to visit as many of the attractions in the center of the city as we could. So this travel videos is an overview of the top things to do in Georgetown, Penang, but also a trav...

Date: 19 - 21 December 2016. A trip to the "Pearl of the Orient" - The island state of Penang, Malaysia. We visited locations mostly around the capital city of Georgetown (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), as well as Penang Hill a.k.a. Bukit Bendera, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Despite experiencing some depressing (rainy) weather on the second day, overall, this trip has been nothing short of amazing. I have made it a point to come back to Penang next time in order to properly photograph this beautiful place. Enjoy! Don't forget to comment, like, and subscribe! Turn ON the speaker loud, and watch Full Screen in HD! Share this loud, share this wide if you like this. For long enough that i've been working on "Penang in Motion 2", i guess i'm finally satisfied with what i see from my screen to share with you here. This is my 2nd serious time-lapse video of my hometown Penang Island after being greatly inspired after watching "Manhattan in Motion" by Josh Owens some time ago. I certainly believe every city should have her own time-lapse video. Penang island is a bustling city in the Northern Malaysia region with some really big identity such as the UNESCO Heritage Site, a popular food heaven as a whole, a melting pot of different culture, an important business and industrial hub, and a lot more. However, i intend to bring you something more than ...
"Penang" is my tribute to the Penang Island (or Pulau Pinang in Bahasa Malaysia), a turtle-shaped island in the Straits of Malacca 8 km west of Peninsular Malaysia. Penang, a tourist destination in Malaysia, offers many things such as beautiful landscapes, mixed and unique cultures, heritage, and even delicious foods. As a foreigner living in Kuala Lumpur, I had not have much time as I needed to really capture the beauty and uniqueness of Penang. I had to juggle between family, rest, and photography during my 4 days family trip. But hey, nothing to complain. This is Penang, hope you enjoy it. Featured locations: Penang Bridge, Armenian Street, Ah Quee Street, 1st Avenue, Penang Hill, Jerejak Jetty, Chowrasta Market, Eastern&Oriental; Hotel, St. George's Church, Straits Quay, Batu Feringgi...
“Uniquely Penang Island” take place on an island called Penang, which was formally inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. The film was shoot in black and white scene without any dialog and selected few remarkable locations that strongly represent Penang Island originally. The “Moon Seeker” play by a mysterious man, visiting historic and landmark of Penang Island, while holding white balloon and releasing in designated locations, to represent love and peace toward human kind and mother earth. The black and white scene to show the support toward energy saving. The non dialog to represent the support toward less noise pollution from industries. And the white balloon to show the support of saving our mother earth from pollution. Song: Hang on Little Tomato by Pink Martini

All we ever hear about Penang was EATING! Much to our surprise there was a lot more to do in Penang than just eat until you pop. Walking through the quaint streets of Georgetown was an adventure in itself. Penang is definitely a way different vibe compared to Kuala Lumpur. I got way more of a typical South East Asian city vibe out of Penang, and by that I mean, the smells, dirty streets, critters etc.. However, this didn't detract from an excellent experience of the city. The first thing we did was rent a motorbike and get a lay of the land. Aside from the beaches (which were nowhere near as nice as Langkawi: watch our video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqjZrlsQzBQ) most action in Penang takes place in and around Georgetown. Georgetown has famous street art scattered through t...

Oh Banana co.
We really love you and we need you
And oh banana co.
We'd really love to believe you
But everything's underground
We gotta dig it up somehow
Yeah yeah
Oh she said "No go"
She said she'd like to
She's seen you
But no, no go
She knows if you die then we all do
And everything's underground
We've gotta dig it up somehow
Yeah yeah
Everything's burning down
We gotta put it out somehow
