The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX7 announced in August 2013, is a Micro Four Thirds compact mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. It was Panasonic's first Micro Four Thirds camera with a built-in in-body stabilization system (IBIS) and has a built-in EVF (add-on EVFs are no-longer supported). Panasonic uses 2-axis in-body stabilization allowing the use of shutter speeds 1 to 2 stops slower than without stabilization, compared to the 4 to 5 stops of improvement offered by Olympus' 5-axis stabilization.
Features include:
Lumix is Panasonic's brand of digital cameras, ranging from pocket point-and-shoot models to digital SLRs.
Compact digital cameras DMC-LC5 and DMC-F7 were the first products of the Lumix series, released in 2001. They are equipped with Leica lenses.
Indeed, many Lumix models are fitted with Leica lenses (e.g. Nocticron or Elmarit lenses), designed by Leica's German optical engineers, and are assembled in Japan. Others are rebranded as Leica cameras with different cosmetic stylings. Leica had a similar relationship with Minolta in the past, where late model Leica SLRs (and some 35 mm point-and-shoot models) were strongly based on Minolta bodies.
Most Lumix cameras use differing releases of the Panasonic Venus Engine for digital image processing; the original version (2002) was followed by II (2004), Plus (2005), III (2006), IV (2008), HD, V (2009), and VI, HD II, FHD (2010).
Panasonic produces most of Leica's branded digital point and shoot cameras in Japan, but not film cameras, the Leica M8 or Leica M9 digital rangefinder cameras, the X1 and X2 digital cameras or the Digital Modul R digital camera back for the Leica R9 film SLR.
Panasonic Corporation (パナソニック株式会社, Panasonikku Kabushiki-gaisha), formerly known as Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (松下電器産業株式会社, Matsushita Denki Sangyō Kabushiki-gaisha), is a Japanese multinational electronics corporation headquartered in Kadoma, Osaka, Japan.
The company was founded in 1918 and has grown to become one of the largest Japanese electronics producers alongside Sony, Hitachi, Toshiba and Canon Inc. In addition to electronics, it offers non-electronic products and services such as home renovation services. Panasonic is the world's fourth-largest television manufacturer by 2012 market share.
Panasonic has a primary listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the Nikkei 225 and TOPIX indices. It has a secondary listing on the Nagoya Stock Exchange.
From 1935 to October 1, 2008, the company name was "Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd." On January 10, 2008, the company announced that it would change its name to "Panasonic Corporation", in effect on October 1, 2008, to conform with its global brand name "Panasonic". The name change was approved at a shareholders' meeting on June 26, 2008 after consultation with the Matsushita family.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8 is a digital rangefinder-styled mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera announced by Panasonic on July 16, 2015. The camera features a newly developed 20 megapixel sensor - previously the highest resolution in Micro Four Thirds cameras was 16 megapixels. The camera's ISO range touches 25600 and it can capture continuous frames at up to 8 frames per second. One major new feature introduced in the camera is “Dual IS”, the camera 5 axis image stabilisation gets synchronised, when available, with lens based image stabilisation. The camera also records 4K video.
The manufacturer has indicated the time to acquire auto focus as 0.07 seconds. The electronic OLED viewfinder has a resolution of 2.36 million dots and, as in the predecessor, is tiltable. The 3″ OLED touchscreen rear display is fully articulated and can display 1.04 million dots. The camera is splash proof.
The Four Thirds System is a standard created by Olympus and Eastman Kodak for digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR) and mirrorless camera design and development.
The system provides a standard that, with digital cameras and lenses available from multiple manufacturers, allows for the interchange of lenses and bodies from different manufacturers. U.S. Patent 6,910,814 seems to cover the standard. Proponents describe it as an open standard, but companies may only use it under a non-disclosure agreement.
Unlike older single-lens reflex (SLR) systems, Four Thirds was designed from the start to be entirely digital. Many lenses are extensively computerized, to the point that Olympus offers firmware updates for many of them. Lens design has been tailored to the requirements of digital sensors, most notably through telecentric designs. The size of the sensor is significantly smaller than for most DSLRs and this implies that lenses, especially telephoto lenses, can be smaller. For example, a Four Thirds lens with a 300 mm focal length would cover about the same angle of view as a 600 mm focal length lens for the 35 mm film standard, and is correspondingly more compact. Thus, the Four Thirds System has crop factor (focal length multiplier) of about 2, and while this enables longer focal length for greater magnification, it does not necessary aid the manufacture of wide angle lenses.

Panasonic Lumix GX7 versus Panasonic Lumix GH3... FIGHT!!! Blunty puts Panasonic's new premium Micro four thirds camera up against their own high end Pro model... Want the scoop on the DMC-GX7? Watch Blunty's DDTV GX7 Review here; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBpMRQpK61Q The GX7 used was a pre-production unit, running Firmware 0.3, so by the time it hits retail it could be even better(!?) Tests were performed with the Camera's configured to identical settings for ISO, WB, Focus type and point etc. etc... Image profile was stock "standard" setting, and the cameras were in either Manual, or Aperture priority mode for all shots. Both 50P and 25P modes were used. The GX7 had the 20mm f1.7 Mark II Lens (a kit option) and the GH3 had the original 20mm f1.7 lens, Effectively the same lens...
This review includes samples to illustrate features and functions - I actually use and show the results of the capabilities I'm discussing. I am not an employee of Panasonic, or affiliated with them in anyway. The camera was on loan to me for the review period. You can find more details about this video on my blog at maartech dot com. The images and their EXIF data are available on flickr. If you like my work, please "like", share and subscribe. I do read and respond to your comments and questions.
My 1st look at the Panasonic GX7, the newest and best Micro 4/3 from Panasonic where they returned to their roots that started with the classic GF1. This is a look at the camera, my thoughts and some sample video I shot around the house and of some Butterflies. This comes in at $999 with a kit lens.

[Intro:]
Get em up, get em up, get em up, get em up- [x2]
Get em up, get em up-
[Verse 1:]
Get em up, put em up cause we back
I'm back in my city so it's back on the map
We be smokin out the club, gettin drunk in the Yac
Then it's back tothe block to make mo' money stack
And I'm always on my grind, there's no time to relax, I've been livin
For the moment since I grasped the fact
That ya gotta get ahead or you fallin behind in a trap, ain't to many
People that be climbin out that
So let me get this clear, crystal clear
When it come to the money foo you can disappear
So if you dare, touch somebody money
Well then ya gettin fucked up and this I swear
Cause shit round here, we be stuck in the Mitten, goin through hard
Times, why I say forget the beer
Give me a fifth in here, I'm bout to roll another spliff in here, and
Try to spit it to my bitch in here
And take em all to the head, then it's back to gettin bread, cause I'm
Sick and tired of livin on the edge
Ain't got time to waste, cause any time or place, you could be missin on
Ya step and fallin off the ledge
Baby yes, we've been gone for a minute but we back now, back in full effect
Like when ya pull a tek, and every time that's what you should expect
Cause it's Meticulous Records.
[Hook:]
I just gotta get this money, that's fa sho-
Ask anybody, tell ya I'm
Bout my doe-
I grind all the time, get it fast or slow-
Stuck in the struggle, this
Shit is all I know-
Gotta get this money, that's fa sho-
Ask anybody, tell ya I'm bout my doe-
I grind all the time, get it fast or slow-
Stuck in the struggle, this
Shit is all I know-
[Verse 2:]
Get em up, put em up, we rollin, bet that I be out till the mornin
Just roamin around and zonin
Plenty cash to clock, when I be duckin from the cops, every time I stop
My pockets growin, so we keep it coastin, until they be buldgin
So the end of the night, I'll be countin up my money and smokin
Sippin on potion
Just know it, that we never gonna quit, never will I, seize to try
Rather than that I would risk my life, just to rise, can I justify
Everything that a mothafucka be doin to get ahead sometimes and stay alive
Could you empathize, or you livin the life, these other cats
Glamorize, must be nice
All I know is I'm a keep bangin out these tracks and pushin to the max
No time to relax
Already got rid of every single rat, tryin to take my cheese, but man
What's up with that
Don't they know that that bring they epitaph, they get hit up on Telegraph
Cause I just gotta get this doe hoe and there ain't no steppin half.
[Hook:]
I just gotta get this money, that's fa sho-
Ask anybody, tell ya I'm
Bout my doe-
I grind all the time, get it fast or slow-
Stuck in the struggle, this
Shit is all I know-
Gotta get this money, that's fa sho-
Ask anybody, tell ya I'm bout my doe-
I grind all the time, get it fast or slow-
Stuck in the struggle, this
Shit is all I know-
[Bridge:]
I gotta get this money regardless of consequence
I intend to do good, but do bad, I'm on the fence
Can't tell ya how many times police dogs have been on my scent
But still I leave em shook and fucked up like Calodapins
Lord tell me, where do I go from here, would ya help me
I know this liquor and Hydro can't be healthy
But all of this stress from money, I guess just compels me
To drownin out the cards that you dealt me
Man I gotta
[Hook:]
I just gotta get this money, that's fa sho-
Ask anybody, tell ya I'm
Bout my doe-
I grind all the time, get it fast or slow-
Stuck in the struggle, this
Shit is all I know-
