Sports Illustrated is an American sports media franchise owned by Time Inc. Its self-titled magazine has over 3 million subscribers and is read by 23 million people each week, including over 18 million men. It was the first magazine with circulation over one million to win the National Magazine Award for General Excellence twice. Its swimsuit issue, which has been published since 1964, is now an annual publishing event that generates its own television shows, videos and calendars.
There were two magazines named Sports Illustrated before the current magazine began on August 16, 1954. In 1936, Stuart Scheftel created Sports Illustrated with a target market for the sportsman. He published the magazine from 1936–1938 on a monthly basis. The magazine was a life magazine size and focused on golf, tennis, and skiing with articles on the major sports. He then sold the name to Dell Publications, which released Sports Illustrated in 1949 and this version lasted 6 issues before closing. Dell's version focused on major sports (baseball, basketball, boxing) and competed on magazine racks against Sport and other monthly sports magazines. During the 1940s these magazines were monthly and they did not cover the current events because of the production schedules. There was no large-base general weekly sports magazine with a national following on actual active events. It was then that Time patriarch Henry Luce began considering whether his company should attempt to fill that gap. At the time, many believed sports was beneath the attention of serious journalism and did not think sports news could fill a weekly magazine, especially during the winter. A number of advisers to Luce, including Life magazine's Ernest Havemann, tried to kill the idea, but Luce, who was not a sports fan, decided the time was right.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is published annually by American Sports Illustrated magazine. The cover photograph features fashion models wearing swimwear in exotic locales. All models featured on the cover of the swimsuit issue in the magazine's history have been women. According to some, the magazine is the arbiter of supermodel succession. The swimsuit issue of the magazine carries advertising that, in 2005 amounted to US$35 million in value. New issues come out around the middle of February or later. First published in 1964, it is credited with making the bikini, invented in 1946, a legitimate piece of apparel. The issue that got the most letters was the 1978 issue. The best selling issue was the 25th Anniversary Issue with Kathy Ireland on the cover in 1989.
Through the years many models, such as Cheryl Tiegs, Christie Brinkley, Paulina Porizkova, Elle Macpherson, Rachel Hunter, Rebecca Romijn, Petra Nemcova, Valeria Mazza, Heidi Klum, Tyra Banks, and Marisa Miller, have been featured on the cover. Other models within its pages, but not on its cover, include Cindy Crawford, Stephanie Seymour, Niki Taylor, Angie Everhart, and Naomi Campbell. The eight models featured on the cover of the 2006 issue were featured in a coffee-table book called Sports Illustrated: Exposure. Photographed by Raphael Mazzucco, and produced by Diane Smith, the unprecedented "reunion shoot" featured 139 pages of previously-unpublished images. In 2006, the issue expanded publishing to handheld devices. In 2007, the swimsuit issue was first available in China.
India, officially the Republic of India (Bhārat Gaṇarājya), is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west;China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.
Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism—originated here, whereas Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam arrived in the 1st millennium CE and also shaped the region's diverse culture. Gradually annexed by and brought under the administration of the British East India Company from the early 18th century and administered directly by the United Kingdom after the Indian Rebellion of 1857, India became an independent nation in 1947 after a struggle for independence that was marked by non-violent resistance led by Mahatma Gandhi.

She has also modeled in international campaigns for brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Burberry, FCUK, Pull and Bear, and Castro. She was also featured in the 2009, 2010, and 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Ginzburg made her acting debut in the 2010 Joel Schumacher film Twelve, which garnered negative reviews. In 2013, she appeared in the American comedy film, Movie 43, which was panned by critics and won the 2013 Razzie for Worst Picture. She was briefly a co-host on the Israeli reality singing competition show, HaKokhav HaBa but was later replaced by Rotem Sela.

In 2009, novelist and mathematics professor Manil Suri opens this edition of HoCoPoLitSo's The Writing Life with a sensual reading from the beginning of The Age of Shiva, in which the heroine, Meera, addresses her breast-feeding baby. University of Maryland College Park professor and Asian literature specialist Sangeeta Ray asks Suri how he came to find such an "intimate" voice for his main character, a woman reaching adulthood as India grows into independence. "It was an intense journey," Suri admits. "Meera just said, 'I am your heroine.' She took over." Suri's Shiva is the second in a triptych of books based on Indian religious mythology, following his acclaimed debut, The Death of Vishnu. Suri's third novel, The City of Devi, comes out January 2013. The two writers speak about the role...

Eloïse Brac de la Perriere Associate Professor - Islamic Arts Université de la Sorbonne -- Paris IV Institut d'art et d'archéologie Bihari writing Korans produced in India between the fourteenth century and the sixteenth century are still hardly known and never studied as a whole. It is difficult to attribute and date them due to a lack of information. This production however has the distinctive feature of displaying a rare homogeneity for this period in India. The harmony of this group of manuscripts written probably in different places over a period covering nearly three centuries, points out fundamental issues in the context of production, patronage, craftsmen and recipients.
Edward Said's book ORIENTALISM has been profoundly influential in a diverse range of disciplines since its publication in 1978. In this engaging (and lavishly illustrated) interview he talks about the context within which the book was conceived, its main themes and how its original thesis relates to the contemporary understanding of "the Orient." Said argues that the Western (especially American) understanding of the Middle East as a place full of villains and terrorists ruled by Islamic fundamentalism produces a deeply distorted image of the diversity and complexity of millions of Arab peoples. Director: Sut Jhally, 1998.

This film showcases the 'Palashi ki Jung' or the Battle of Plassey, the historic event which changed the course of the modern India. It has immense historic, economic and political influence as the consequences which followed were so vast, immediate and permanent. According to many historians, the Battle of Plassey is considered as the starting point to the events that established the era of British domination and conquest of India. The film uses re-enactments, illustrated drawings and archival stills to reconstruct the court of Siraj-ud-Daulah and the events leading up to the Battle of Plassey, the betrayal by the Nawab's lieutenants and the subsequent defeat and death of Siraj-ud-Daulah.

Creating a single microservice is a well-understood challenge. Creating a cluster of load-balanced microservices that are resilient and self-healing is not so easy. Managing that cluster with rollouts and rollbacks, scaling individual services on demand, and securely sharing secrets and configuration among services is even harder. Kubernetes, an open-source container management system, can help with this. In this video, KC Ayyagari starts with a simple microservice, containerizes it using Docker, and scales it to a cluster of resilient microservices managed by Kubernetes. Along the way, you'll learn what makes Kubernetes a great system for automating deployment, operations, and scaling of containerized applications.
