The Germanic first or given name Richard derives from German, French, and English "ric" (ruler, leader, king) and "hard" (strong, brave), and it therefore means "powerful leader". Nicknames include "Dick", "Dickie", "Rich", "Richie", "Rick", "Ricky", "Rickey", and others.
"Richard" is a common name in many Germanic languages, including English, German, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Icelandic, and Dutch. It can also be used as a French, Hungarian, Finnish, and Estonian name.
Welsh may refer to:
Richard Burton, CBE (/ˈbɜːrtən/; 10 November 1925 – 5 August 1984) was a Welsh stage and cinema actor noted for his mellifluous baritone voice and his acting talent.
Establishing himself as a formidable Shakespearean actor in the 1950s, with a memorable performance of Hamlet in 1964, Burton was called "the natural successor to Olivier" by critic and dramaturg Kenneth Tynan. An alcoholic, Burton's failure to live up to those expectations disappointed critics and colleagues and fueled his legend as a great thespian wastrel.
Burton was nominated seven times for an Academy Award without ever winning. He was a recipient of BAFTA, Golden Globe and Tony Awards for Best Actor. In the mid-1960s Burton ascended into the ranks of the top box office stars, and by the late 1960s was one of the highest-paid actors in the world, receiving fees of $1 million or more plus a share of the gross receipts.
Burton remains closely associated in the public consciousness with his second wife, actress Elizabeth Taylor. The couple's turbulent relationship was rarely out of the news.
Richard and Adam Johnson, performing as Richard & Adam, are Welsh classical singers, best known for finishing in third place on the seventh series of Britain's Got Talent. They come from Holywell in North Wales. Their debut album The Impossible Dream topped the UK Albums Chart and spent four consecutive weeks at number one, making it the longest-running number-one album of 2013 in the UK.
After working in a sandwich shop, the brothers performed on cruise ships, and also performed on Loose Women as "The Johnson Brothers".
Richard and Adam auditioned for Britain's Got Talent in January 2013 and was aired in April 2013. They performed 'The Impossible Dream' and were put through to the next round by the judges. The duo performed on the first live show with "Somewhere" and won with the most votes cast with over 66% of the vote. They were put through to the final.
In the Britain's Got Talent final, Richard & Adam once again performed "The Impossible Dream". In the middle of their performance, one of the members of the orchestra performing behind them—later identified as violinist Natalie Holt—stood up and started throwing eggs at Simon Cowell. The producers immediately escorted her off the stage while the duo continued. They finished third with 15.4% of the vote.

A decent documentary tribute to the great Welsh actor & movie star Richard Burton. Programme begins at 1:00
Richard Burton, CBE (10th November 1925 - 5th August 1984) (born Richard Walter Jenkins) was a Welsh stage and cinema actor noted for his mellifluous baritone voice and his great acting talent that many critics believed he squandered in an excess of hedonism. Establishing himself as a formidable Shakespearean actor in the 1950s and the purveyor of a memorable Hamlet in 1964, Burton was called "the natural successor to Olivier" by critic Kenneth Tynan. An alcoholic, Burton's failure to live up to those expectations fueled his legend as the greatest thespian wastrel since John Barrymore, another great Hamlet whose career also foundered in a sea of alcohol.
