Mike Baird's emotional moment

The former NSW Premier has broken down after seeing his daughter in her wedding dress for the first time. It's not the first time however, he's gotten emotional.

Shortly before the wedding was about to start, Mr Day said he put his hand on the former premier's shoulder and explained his idea for capturing the bond between him and his eldest daughter.

"Do you mind walking into the room backward so you don't see us," Mr Day asked him.

Dressed in a strapless white gown, Laura Baird waited as her father was led backwards into the room by a bridesmaid.

"When you turn around you'll see your daughter dressed as a bride," Mr Day told Mr Baird

"He started crying before he even turned around. He took one glance at her, and put his hands up to his face. Then he immediately ran up to her and held her so tight. It was such a beautiful moment."

The sequence is captured in two of Mr Day's photos, showing Mr Baird covering his face with his hands before tearing up as he embraces his daughter.

"The whole day was absolute magic. It was a beautiful family wedding," Mr Day said. "Mike gave one of the best speeches I've ever heard."

In an another exquisite photograph, Mr Day snapped the married couple's first kiss and the refracted colours of the church's stained glass windows.

"The light in there was magic. Just as Laura got to the top of the aisle, the sun shone through."

Sometimes... but only sometimes... The light for the first kiss is actually quite amazing.

Mr Baird resigned from politics in January, citing the "strong personal cost that comes with public life" and his desire to spend more time with his family.

He joined National Australia Bank in February as chief customer officer of the lender's corporate and institutional banking unit.

His decision to step away from the public arena came just over a week after he revealed on social media that Laura was engaged.

"It feels as if only yesterday I was cradling Laura in my arms," Mr Baird wrote on Facebook in January.

"Levi will make a wonderful addition to our family and, as my son said, he finally gets a brother!"
