A summit is a point on a surface that is higher in elevation than all points immediately adjacent to it. Mathematically, a summit is a local maximum in elevation. The topographic terms "acme", "apex", "peak", and "zenith" are synonyms.
The term "summit" is generally only used for a mountain peak with some significant amount of topographic prominence (height above the lowest point en route to the nearest higher peak) or topographic isolation (distance from the nearest point of higher elevation); for example, a boulder next to the main summit of a mountain is not considered a summit. Summits near a higher peak, with some prominence or isolation, but not reaching a certain cutoff value for these quantities, are often considered subsummits (or subpeaks) of the higher peak, and are considered as part of the same mountain. The UIAA definition is that a summit is independent if it has a prominence of 30 metres (98 ft) or more; it is a mountain if it has a prominence of at least 300 metres (980 ft). This can be summarised as follows:
Need for Speed: The Run is a racing video game, the eighteenth title in the long-running Need for Speed franchise, and developed by Canadian EA subsidiary EA Black Box and published by Electronic Arts. The Wii and 3DS versions were developed by Firebrand Games, the team behind Undercover and Nitro (both DS versions). It was released in North America on November 15, 2011 and November 18, 2011 in Europe.
The game was directed by action director Michael Bay and was described as an "illicit, high-stakes race across the country. The only way to get your life back is to be the first from San Francisco to New York. No speed limits. No rules. No allies. All you have are your driving skills and sheer determination".
Producers Jason DeLong and Steve Anthony stated during an interview that Black Box aimed to obtain critical acclaim after their last game received universally poor ratings. The Run was in production for three years, though previous Black Box titles had much shorter development periods. The Run was Black Box's last game before its restructuring in 2012.
Need for Speed, also known by its initials NFS, is a racing video game franchise published by Electronic Arts and developed by several studios including EA Black Box, Criterion Games and Ghost Games.
The series released its first title, The Need for Speed in 1994. The title comes from a famous quote from the 1986 film Top Gun. All installments of the series consist of racing cars on various tracks, with several titles including police pursuits in races. Since Need for Speed: High Stakes, the series has also integrated car body customization into gameplay.
Need for Speed is the most successful racing video game series in the world, and one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. Over 150 million copies of games in the series have been sold to date.
In June 2012, following Black Box's restructuring, British developer Criterion Games announced that it was in full control of the Need for Speed franchise. However, in August 2013, Swedish and British developers Ghost Games, Ghost Games UK and Criterion Games joined forces for the foreseeable future of the Need for Speed series. At the time, Ghost Games UK staff consisted of 80% of former Criterion Games employees.

In topography, "prominence" characterizes the height of a mountain or hill's summit by the vertical distance between it and the lowest contour line encircling with no higher summit. It is a measure of the independence of a summit. A peak's "key col" is a unique point on this contour line and the "parent peak" is some higher mountain, selected according to various objective criteria. By convention, the prominence of Mount Everest, the Earth's highest mountain, is taken to equal the elevation of its summit above sea level. Apart from this special case, there are several equivalent definitions: Prominence is interesting to some mountaineers because it is an objective measurement that is strongly correlated with the subjective significance of a summit. Peaks with low prominences are eit...

Montana’s Seeley-Swan Valley consists of two watersheds, the Clearwater River flowing south and the Swan River flowing north off a divide that separates the two. “The Summit” includes 70± acres of timber, meadow and a pond perched atop this divide with an 8,000± square foot masterpiece home sited to absorb some of the most striking views found in the northern Rockies. With gentle topography and easy access, nothing is complicated about ownership. Family and friends will enjoy a spacious guest house. A large block of U.S. Forest Service lands is out the back door. The landscape teems with wildlife.
Demanding topography and greatly fluctuating numbers of guests in the Lauterbrunnen valley make providing electricity a challenge for EWL Energie Elektro Plus – especially at the summit of the Schilthorn. Thanks to Schneider Electric’s expertise in secure and reliable network infrastructures, the cooperative is equipped for the future.
How we navigate in the wilderness and a talk about the devices we use. In over 25 years of combined hiking experience we have never been lost in the wilderness. Often we take a wrong turn here and there on the trails but with this combination of navigation devices we always manage to find our way back. GPS's are extremely useful in the modern age but it can be quite dangerous to rely on them entirely; that said it is very true that less people should be getting lost if they have a GPS ;-) In the video we also talk briefly about the importance of understanding magnetic declination, the importance of this will vary depending on your location on the planet. See the declination map at 4:44 :-) Many other Youtube channels already have videos about declination so we didn't want to turn this v...

Near the summit of Mount Mitchell (2,037 metres / 6,684 feet) the museum features this topography model of the Black Mountains. Located in western North Carolina, the Black Mountains are highest range east of the Mississippi. They are part of the Blue Ridge Province of the Southern Appalachian Mountains and take their name from the dark appearance of the Red Spruce and Fraser Fir trees on the upper slopes which contrasts with the brown (during winter) or lighter green (during the growing season) appearance of the deciduous trees at lower elevations. Mount Everest, also known in Nepal as Sagarmāthā and in Tibet as Chomolungma, is Earth's highest mountain. It is located in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas. Its peak is 8,848 metres (29,029 ft) above sea level and is the 5th furthest summit from the center of Earth. The international border between China and Nepal runs across the precise summit point. Its massif includes neighboring peaks Lhotse, 8,516 m (27,940 ft); Nuptse, 7,855 m (25,771 ft) and Changtse, 7,580 m (24,870 ft). In 1856, the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India established the first published height of Everest, then known as Peak XV, at 29,002 ft (8,840 m). The current official height of 8,848 m (29,029 ft) as recognized by China and Nepal was established by a 1955 Indian survey and subsequently confirmed by a Ch...

Create 3d geometry from USGS DEM data in Cinema 4D. Overlay the landmark model with a high resolution contour map to create a dynamic 3d map. Using USGS GIS (Geographic Information Systems) data, we will convert DEM (Digital Elevation Model) data into 3d geometry in Cinema 4D for a landmark of your choice. The DEM model will then be textured with a DRG (Digital Raster Graphic) to produce a high quality contour map. Mograph will be used along with other free plugins to create a marker path along the geometry. The final animation will be taken to Adobe After Effects to add depth of field and apply color correction.
Cinema 4D Tutorial Topography - Beyond the basics In this tutorial we go further in depth on the previous topography video. This time we go over the telephoto lens vs. the wide angel and where it is applicable for each, we go over adding a water type level in the landscape, most importantly the PS manipulation on changing the elevation levels for the mapping in C4D.
