Anne Arundel County /ˌænəˈrʌndəl/ is a county located in the U.S. state of Maryland. As of the 2010 census, its population was 537,656, a population increase of just under 10% since 2000. Its county seat is Annapolis, which is also the capital of the state. The county is named for Lady Anne Arundell (1615–49), a member of the ancient family of Arundells in Cornwall, United Kingdom and the wife of Cecilius Calvert, second Baron and Lord Baltimore, (1605-1675), founder and first Lord Proprietor of the colony Province of Maryland.
Anne Arundel County is included in the Baltimore-Columbia-Towson, MD Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Washington-Baltimore-Arlington, DC-MD-VA-WV-PA Combined Statistical Area.
The County was named for Lady Ann Arundell, (1615/1616-1649), the daughter of Thomas Arundell, 1st Baron Arundell of Wardour, members of the ancient family of Arundells in Cornwall, England. She married Cecilius Calvert, second Lord Baltimore, (1605-1675), and the first Lord Proprietor of the colony, Province of Maryland, in an arranged marriage contract in 1627 or 1628.
Anne Calvert, Baroness Baltimore (née Arundell; 1615/1616 – 23 July 1649) was an English noblewoman, daughter of Thomas Arundell, 1st Baron Arundell of Wardour by second wife Anne Philipson, and wife of Lord Baltimore, who founded the Province of Maryland colony. Anne Arundel County in Maryland, (the third of the state's 23 counties/jurisdictions), in the U.S., was named for her. In addition, USS Anne Arundel (AP-76), an American naval transport ship of the Elizabeth C. Stanton-class was in turn named after the Maryland county. It served in the United States Navy from 1940 to 1970.
She married Cecilius Calvert, second Lord Baltimore, (1605-1675), in 1628 at age 13 when he was 18. This was when his father Sir George Calvert, first Lord Baltimore, (1578-1632), was embarking on his first colonial endeavor in Avalon located in Newfoundland (of future eastern Canada) and six years before son Cecilius after the death of his father, supervised the sailing of the second colonial enterprise in 1633 to the Chesapeake Bay area, north of the earlier colony of Virginia, which was named "Maryland" after Henrietta Marie, the wife and Queen of King Charles I, (1600-1649). A settlement arrangement for the marriage between them was made on 20 March 1627/28. According to Gibbs, she is said to have been a most beautiful and accomplished woman. Of her nine children with Lord Baltimore, three survived to adulthood.
County police are the police of a county in the United States, Sweden and England and Wales in the UK, Scotland now has a single and only region wide police force Police Scotland, as well as Northern Ireland whose regional and only police are the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
Until the end of 2014, all of the 21 Counties of Sweden had its own County Police Department. In 2015, Sweden merged all local police departments into a single police agency, dividing the country into seven police regions instead.
In England, the police are divided into regional forces based on counties (sometimes amalgamations of two or three counties), which all provide full services throughout their districts.
Police forces in Scotland and Wales also used to be organised on a county basis, but then were amalgamated into a number of larger regional forces: eight in Scotland and four in Wales. In 2013, Scotland ditched it's eight regional forces and created one national police force known as Police Scotland.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, serving a population of more than 510,878 in 588 square miles (1,500 km2) of jurisdiction. As of 2010 the department is staffed by approximately 600 sworn officers plus civilian members, including chaplains, crime scene technicians, animal control officers, communications call-takers and dispatchers, and volunteer "reserve officers" under the leadership of Chief of Police, Timothy J. Altomare. The Anne Arundel County Police Department has been internationally accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies since July 30, 1994.

Arundel (/ˈærəndəl/ or local /ˈɑːndəl/) is a market town and civil parish in a steep vale of the South Downs, West Sussex, England. It lies 49 miles (79 km) SSW of London, 18 miles (29 km) WNW of the English Channel town of Brighton, and 10 miles (16 km) east of the county town of Chichester. Larger nearby towns include Worthing, Littlehampton and Bognor Regis. The much-conserved town with large green buffers has a medieval castle and Roman Catholic cathedral. Although smaller in population than most other parishes, Arundel has a museum and comes second behind much larger Chichester in its number of listed buildings in West Sussex. The River Arun runs through the eastern side of the town.
Arundel was one of the boroughs reformed by the Municipal Reform Act 1835. From 1836-1889 the town had its own Borough police force with a strength of three. In 1974 it became part of the Arun district, and now is a civil parish with a town council.
