tonykwk39@gmail.com Lasar Segall (1891-1957) was born in Vilnius, capital of the Republic of Lithuania on July 21, 1891. As a child he was already interested in drawing. At the age of 14, he joined the Drawing Academy of his city. In 1906, he went to Berlin, Germany, to study at the Imperial Academy, where he remained for five years. In 1911, he moved to the city of Dresden, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. The painter's initial struggles were enormous, for introducing new and revolutionary ideas, totally different from the existing one. In 1912, Segall came to Brazil, where his brothers were already. In 1913, he made two solo exhibitions, in São Paulo and Campinas, still without great repercussion. And from that time his painting "Two Friends". He returned to Europe and in 1918, married Margarete Quack. Lasar Segal returned to Brazil in 1923, and devoted himself to painting. Being a forerunner of expressionism, its name is linked to the Expressionist movement of the German school. He was measured in his traits, in his colors and in his representations. Even pictures that have vivid colors translate dark aspects. Lazar also dedicated himself to the design of a series of modern furniture.
