Joseph Stalin was one of the most influential and controversial political figures of the previous century and existed the undisputed leader of the extremely powerful USSR for over thirty years. There are many questions about him that have yet to be answered with certainty. His admirers call him a great leader who cared for his people and did anything for his country. His haters describe him as a brutal dictator just like Hitler, if not worse. All this is pretty debatable and for that reason we will attempt to bring some light to Stalin’s life by presenting 25 facts that many of you might not know.

He held absolute power over the Soviet Union for 29 years. Stalin succeeded his hero Lenin in 1924. From then on, he induced widespread famines to enforce farm collectives and eliminated perceived enemies through massive purges. In 1953, as Joseph Stalin lay dying, doctors were afraid to even examine him. This harsh leader of the Soviet Union was known to turn on even his closest advisors, sending them to prison to be tried as enemies of the state. Stalin came to power by joining a group of revolutionaries that in 1917 overthrew the Russian Czar, or emperor. They created a Communist government, in which the state controlled all parts of peoples lives. The first leader of the Soviet Union, as it was now called, was Vladimir Lenin. Stalin became one of his aides. When Lenin died in 1924, Stalin took control and ruled the Soviet Union with an iron hand for almost thirty years. In the end an unbelievable twenty million people died from starvation or executions under Stalins rule.

Se hizo con el poder de la Unión Soviética en 1924, tras la muerte de Lenin y, durante sus 30 años como máximo mandatario, murieron 20 millones de personas. Este hombre, que declaraba hacer feliz a su pueblo, se convirtió, a fuerza de fanatismo, en uno de los dictadores más sanguinarios.
En la época de Stalin eran famosos los campos de concentración y los "hospitales psiquiátricos" en donde los opositores políticos eran internados y torturados hasta la locura total o hasta la muerte.
Tras la muerte de Lenin en 1924, Stalin se hizo con el poder de la Unión Soviética. Su ideal de estado comunista sin ricos ni pobres, con salud y educación para todos estuvo muy alejado de la realidad. Los Gulags y las hambrunas mostraron al pueblo ruso el lado más oscuro del comunismo. Sus crueles programas de industrialización y colectivización a partir de 1930 y sus campañas de represión política le costaron la vida a más de 20 millones de rusos.

El 9 de marzo de 1953, Joseph Stalin moría en Moscú. Su funeral fue el de un semidiós. Joseph Stalin
Joseph Stalin (/ˈstɑːlɪn/; birth surname: Jughashvili; 18 December 1878 – 5 March 1953) was the leader of the Soviet Union from the mid-1920s until his death in 1953. Holding the post of the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, he was effectively the dictator of the state.
Stalin was one of the seven members of the first Politburo, founded in 1917 in order to manage the Bolshevik Revolution, alongside Lenin, Zinoviev, Kamenev, Trotsky, Sokolnikov and Bubnov. Among the Bolshevik revolutionaries who took part in the Russian Revolution of 1917, Stalin was appointed General Secretary of the party's Central Committee in 1922. He subsequently managed to consolidate power following the 1924 death of Vladimir Lenin by suppressing Lenin's criticisms (in the postscript of his testament) and expanding the functions of his role, all the while eliminating any opposition. He remained general secretary until the post was abolished in 1952, concurrently serving as the Premier of the Soviet Union from 1941 onward.

The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (Russian: Сою́з Сове́тских Социалисти́ческих Респу́блик, tr. Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik; IPA: [sɐˈjus sɐˈvʲɛtskʲɪx sətsɨəlʲɪsˈtʲitɕɪskʲɪx rʲɪˈspublʲɪk]) abbreviated to USSR (Russian: СССР, tr. SSSR) or shortened to the Soviet Union (Russian: Сове́тский Сою́з, tr. Sovetskij Soyuz; IPA: [sɐ'vʲetskʲɪj sɐˈjʉs]), was a Marxist–Leninist state on the Eurasian continent that existed between 1922 and 1991. A union of multiple subnational Soviet republics, its government and economy were highly centralized. The Soviet Union was a one-party state, governed by the Communist Party with Moscow as its capital.

Sporting a hoodie and a hang-over from the previous night's debauchery, Dante wakes to find he is lost - physically and metaphorically - in a strange part of town. He asks the first guy he sees for some help: The ancient Roman poet Virgil, wearing a mullet and what looks like a brown bathrobe. Having no one else to turn to, Dante's quickly convinced that his only means for survival is to follow Virgil voyage down, down through the depths of Hell. The pair cross into the underworld and there Virgil shows Dante the underbelly of the Inferno, which closely resembles the decayed landscape of modern urban life. Dante and Virgil's chronicles are set against a familiar backdrop of used car lots, strip malls, gated communities, airport security checks, and the U.S. Capitol. Here, hot tubs simmer with sinners, and the river Styx is engorged with sewage swimmers. Also familiar is the contemporary cast of presidents, politicians, popes and pop-culture icons sentenced to eternal suffering of the most cruel and unusual kind: Heads sewn on backwards, bodies wrenched in half, never-ending blow jobs, dancing to techno for eternity, and last, but certainly not least, an inside look at Lucifer himself, from the point of view of a fondue-dunked human appetizer. In 1953, as Joseph Stalin lay dying, doctors were afraid to even examine him. This harsh leader of the Soviet Union was known to turn on even his closest advisors, sending them to prison to be tried as enemies of the state. Stalin came to power by joining a group of revolutionaries that in 1917 overthrew the Russian Czar, or emperor. They created a Communist government, in which the state controlled all parts of peoples lives. The first leader of the Soviet Union, as it was now called, was Vladimir Lenin. Stalin became one of his aides. When Lenin died in 1924, Stalin took control and ruled the Soviet Union with an iron hand for almost thirty years. In the end an unbelievable twenty million people died from starvation or executions under Stalins rule.

El 9 de marzo de 1953, Joseph Stalin moría en Moscú. Su funeral fue el de un semidiós. Última ironía de uno de los peores criminales de la historia del siglo XX, que llevó miseria a su pueblo mientras que creaba una admiración colectiva. Durante más de 30 años de gobierno absoluto murieron millones de personas.
Con la política de Stalin el nivel de vida descendió. La pobreza de principios de los años 30 era evidente en las calles de Moscú. En sus campos de reeducación por el trabajo, más conocido como el Gulag, encerró a 18 millones de rusos convirtiéndolos en esclavos. Maquiavélico y paranoico, Stalin inventó el juicio político, dónde las condenas se fijaban antes del inicio de la audiencia. Dejó morir de hambre a 7.000.000 de campesinos como castigo por negarse a su revolución. Tenía engañado al mundo entero a través de falsas campañas de propaganda.
