Canon in D Major (Pachebel's Canon) for Pipe Pachelbel's Canon is the name commonly given to a canon by the German Baroque composer Johann Pachelbel in his Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo (German: Kanon und Gigue für 3 Violinen mit Generalbaß) (PWC 37, T. 337, PC 358), sometimes referred to as Canon and Gigue in D or simply Canon in D. Neither the date nor the circumstances of its composition are known (suggested dates range from 1680 to 1706), and the oldest surviving manuscript copy of the piece dates from the 19th century.
Pachelbel's Canon, like Pachelbel's other works, although popular during his lifetime, soon went out of style, and remained in obscurity for centuries thereafter. A 1968 arrangement and recording of it by the Jean-François Paillard chamber orchestra became unexpectedly popular over the next decade, and in the 1970s the piece began to be recorded by many ensembles; by the early 1980s its presence as background music was deemed inescapable. From the 1970s to the early 2000s, elements of the piece, especially its chord progression, were used in a variety of pop music songs. Since the 1980s, it has also been used frequently in weddings and funeral ceremonies in the Western world.
The canon was originally scored for three violins and basso continuo and paired with a gigue. Both movements are in the key of D major. Although a true canon at the unison in three parts, it also has elements of a chaconne.
In his lifetime, Johann Pachelbel was renowned primarily for his organ and other keyboard music, whereas today he is also recognized as an important composer of church and chamber music. Little of his chamber music survives, however. Only Musikalische Ergötzung—a collection of partitas published during Pachelbel's lifetime—is known, apart from a few isolated pieces in manuscripts. The Canon and Gigue in D major is one such piece. A single 19th-century manuscript copy of them survives, Mus.MS 16481/8 in the Berlin State Library. It contains two more chamber suites. Another copy, previously in Hochschule der Künste in Berlin, is now lost.
The circumstances of the piece's composition are wholly unknown. Hans-Joachim Schulze, writing in 1985, suggested that the piece may have been composed for Johann Christoph Bach's wedding, on 23 October 1694, which Pachelbel attended. Johann Ambrosius Bach, Pachelbel, and other friends and family provided music for the occasion. Johann Christoph Bach, the oldest brother of Johann Sebastian Bach, was a pupil of Pachelbel. Another scholar, Charles E Brewer, investigated a variety of possible connections between Pachelbel's and Heinrich Biber's published chamber music. His research indicated that the Canon may have been composed as a kind of "answer" to a chaconne with canonic elements which Biber published as part of Partia III of Harmonia artificioso-ariosa. That would indicate that Pachelbel's piece can't be dated earlier than 1696 – the year of publication of Biber's collection. Other versions are occasionally put forward, for example, suggesting the date of canon's composition as early as 1680.
Pachelbel's Canon combines the techniques of canon and ground bass. Canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. In Pachelbel's piece, there are three voices engaged in canon, but there is also a fourth voice, the basso continuo, which plays an independent part.

Rachmaninoff: Variations on a Theme of Chopin, Op.22 (Chochieva)
Rachmaninoff's Variations on a Theme of Chopin are often gently disparaged as a juvenile work -- too long, too rambling, too dark and remorseless. Chochieva's stunning performance reveals this work for the masterpiece it truly is. Where other pianists regularly leave out variations (something Rachmaninoff himself often did in performance), Chochieva plays all 22 variations, and brings to them a great deal of air and light (seriously -- all the dark passages are played with such tenderness!), along with breathtaking phrasing, remarkable contrapuntal clarity, and a vivid sense of imagination. Neither is there self-indulgence -- the tempi are brisk, with Chochieva's recording clocking in at about 3 minutes shorter than the average. And thus the Op.22 is revealed not at all as long or rambling...

In 1936, the Soviet government launched an official attack against Dmitri Shostakovich's music, calling it "vulgar, formalistic, [and] neurotic." He became an example to other Soviet composers, who rightfully interpreted these events as a broad campaign against musical modernism. This constituted a crisis, both in Shostakovich's career and in Soviet music as a whole; composers had no choice but to write simple, optimistic music that spoke directly (especially through folk idioms and patriotic programs) to the people and glorified the state.
In light of these circumstances, Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony (first performed in 1937) is a bold composition that seems to fly in the face of his critics. Although the musical language is pared down from that of his earlier symphonies, the Fifth eschews any hint of a patriotic program and, instead, dwells on undeniably somber and tragic affects -- wholly unacceptable public emotions at the time. According to the cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, the government would certainly have had Shostakovich executed for writing such a work had the public ovation at the first performance not lasted 40 minutes. The official story, however, is quite different. An unknown commentator dubbed the symphony "the creative reply of a Soviet artist to justified criticism," and to the work was attached an autobiographical program focusing on the composer's metamorphosis from incomprehensible formalist to standard-bearer of the communist party. Publicly, Shostakovich accepted the official interpretation of his work; however, in the controversial collection of his memoirs (Testimony, by Solomon Volkov) he is quoted as saying: "I think it is clear to everyone what happens in the Fifth. The rejoicing is forced, created under threat...you have to be a complete oaf not to hear that."
Regardless of its philosophical underpinnings, Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 is a masterpiece of the orchestral repertory, poignant and economical in its conception. There is no sign of the excess of ideas so common in the Fourth Symphony. Instead, Shostakovich deploys the orchestra sparingly and allows the entire work to grow naturally out of just a few motives. Given some of his earlier works, the Fifth is conservative in language. Throughout the work he allows the strings to be the dominant orchestral force, making soloistic use of the woodwinds and horn especially effective.
- The Moderato begins with a jagged, foreboding canon in the strings that forms the motivic basis for the entire movement. The impassioned mood is occasionally interrupted by a lyrical melody with string ostinato, later the subject of a duet for flute and horn.
- The second movement (Allegretto) is a grotesque 3/4 dance which, at times, can't help but mock itself; the brass section is featured prominently.
- The following Largo, a sincere and personal outpouring of musical emotion, is said to have left the audience at the work's premiere in tears. Significantly, it was composed during an intensely creative period following the arrest and execution of one of Shostakovich's teachers.

Le joueur incarne un rescapé du crash du vaisseau minier Aurora, qui avait pour but d'accomplir une mission bien simple, faire des activités minières de prospection pour une durée de trois ans, et se retrouve ainsi sur une planète alien entièrement recouverte d'eau. Selon un PDA trouvé sur une des îles flottantes, trois autres rescapés auraient survécu au crash de leur vaisseau, faisant aussi parti de la corporation Alterra. Les trois rescapés se composerait d'un Directeur Général de la corporation Torgaljin, une mercenaire nommée Maida et un autre. Leur vaisseau aurait aussi été atteint par un projectile d'origine inconnue et ils se seraient ensuite crashés sur la planète il y a 7 et 102 jours selon leur PDA. Pour survivre dans Subnautica, le joueur devra s'intégrer à son nouvel environnement en commençant par trouver différentes sources de nourritures et d'eau potable. Pour s'y faire, il devra plonger dans le vaste monde marin afin d'y récolter de nombreuses ressources pour s'établir dans les fonds marins et fabriquer des gadgets qui lui serviront à différentes tâches.

Note : subnautica n'est pas encore traduit à 100% en francais.
Le joueur commence avec la cinématique de la fuite du vaisseau mère nommé Aurora. Puis, le joueur se réveille dans un « LifePod », un module de survie. Il est accompagné par un IA qui lui transmet des informations tout au long du jeu, et dont la voix change: ainsi, trois voix sont pour l'instant disponibles: une dans le Cyclops, le plus grand submersible disponible; le Seamoth, un sous-marin une place; et enfin dans votre base sous-marine future. Le joueur commence avec un kit de premier soin, un PDA, qui lui servira aussi d'inventaire, et deux fusées éclairantes, deux bouteilles d'eau filtrées et deux blocs de nutriments, tout ça dans le stockage du LifePod (en mode Survie). La profondeur n'a pas d'impact sur le joueur: le joueur peut descendre jusqu'au maximum possible, en prenant en compte l'utilisation de véhicules, et de réserves plus grandes d'air: la profondeur a une influence uniquement sur les véhicules, qui subiront la pression. Le joueur peut choisir différentes difficultés dans subnautica :
Libre : le joueur peut se soucier uniquement de son oxygène et de sa santé. Il n'a pas besoin de manger ou de boire.
Survie : le joueur doit se soucier de son oxygène, de sa santé mais aussi de sa barre de nourriture et d'hydratation. Si le joueur meurt, il réapparaît mais perd quelques objets de son inventaire. Pour éviter la perte de son inventaire, le joueur a le choix de retourner soit dans sa capsule de survie, soit dans la base. L'inventaire sera sauvegardé automatiquement.
Extrême : le joueur doit se soucier de son oxygène, de sa santé mais aussi de sa barre de nourriture et d'hydratation, comme dans le cas du Survival classique. Ce mode de jeu rajoute du challenge pour le joueur, car il n'a qu'une seule vie, et l'environnement est plus hostile que dans les autres modes.
Créatif : le joueur ne doit se soucier de rien; santé illimitée, ressources illimitées, oxygène illimité, et quelques outils sont directement donnés au joueur dès son apparition. Le mode créatif a une importance capitale dans l'early access (accès anticipé), car il sert notamment à la détection de bugs graphiques ou de gameplay.
Subnautica est encore en accès anticipé et pas traduit complètement en français. Beaucoup de joueurs espèrent l'apparition d'un mode multijoueur-coopératif; les développeurs ont répondu que le jeu nécessite encore un peu plus de contenu et de gameplay : le mode multijoueur n'arrivera que dans 4 ou 5 mois, le temps que les fondements du jeu soient posés. La communauté reste très active, et le jeu semble très prometteur par rapport aux avis donnés.

A teenager whose body was found in Fremont County on Saturday has been identified as 18-year-old Canon City resident Thomas Gwardyak, according to the Sheriff's Office. His death is being investigated as a homicide. Gwardyak was found near Brush Hollow Reservoir, the Sheriff's Office said. No further details were available Sunday.
