Giovanni Trapattoni (Italian pronunciation: [d͡ʒoˈvanni trapatˈtoni]; born 17 March 1939), sometimes popularly known as "Trap" or "Il Trap", is an Italian football manager and former footballer, considered the most successful club coach in the history of Serie A. As a player he spent almost his entire career with A.C. Milan, where he won two Serie A titles and the European Cup in 1963 and 1969. He was also a member of Italy's squad at the 1962 FIFA World Cup.
One of the most celebrated managers in football history, Trapattoni is one of only four coaches, alongside Ernst Happel, José Mourinho, and Tomislav Ivić to have won league titles (10) in four different countries. Alongside Udo Lattek, he is the only coach to have won all three major European club titles and the only one to make it with the same club. Also, he is the only one to have won all official continental club competitions and the world title, achieving this with Juventus during his first spell with the club. He is one of the rare few to have won the European Cup, the Cup Winners' Cup and Intercontinental Cup as both a player and manager.
Giovanni may refer to:
Fußball-Club Bayern München e.V., commonly known as FC Bayern München (German pronunciation: [ʔɛf t͡seː ˈbaɪ̯ɐn ˈmʏnçn̩]), FCB, Bayern Munich, or FC Bayern, is a German sports club based in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is best known for its professional football team, which plays in the Bundesliga, the top tier of the German football league system, and is the most successful club in German football history, having won a record 25 national titles and 17 national cups.
FC Bayern was founded in 1900 by eleven football players led by Franz John. Although Bayern won its first national championship in 1932, the club was not selected for the Bundesliga at its inception in 1963. The club had its period of greatest success in the middle of the 1970s when, under the captaincy of Franz Beckenbauer, it won the European Cup three times in a row (1974–76). Overall, Bayern has reached ten European Cup/UEFA Champions League finals, most recently winning their fifth title in 2013 as part of a continental treble. Bayern has also won one UEFA Cup, one European Cup Winners' Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, one FIFA Club World Cup and two Intercontinental Cups, making it one of the most successful European clubs internationally. Since the formation of the Bundesliga, Bayern has been the dominant club in German football with 25 titles and has won 7 of the last 11 titles. They have traditional local rivalries with TSV 1860 München and 1. FC Nürnberg, as well as with Borussia Dortmund since the mid 1990s.
Giovanni “Trap” Trapattoni won titles galore and even went on to take charge of Ireland, one of Germany's Euro 2016 qualifying opponents. Something he did in Germany that will always be legendary was his press conference on 10th March 1998, two days after a 1-0 loss to FC Schalke 04. The FC Bayern München coach criticised his own players’ performances, albeit with bad grammar, but full of emotion. Mehmet Scholl and Mario Basler in particular received a grilling from the boss. His closing words, “Ich habe fertig”, a broken way of saying “I’m done”, have almost become commonplace in Germany. Quite brilliant rant by the legendary Trapattoni....
Giovanni Trapattoni and Dietmar Hamann, two very familiar names in world football. Both have experienced great success and claimed numerous titles. But an embarrassing mistake tarnishes their otherwise illustrious careers.
