John Adams (October 30 [O.S. October 19] 1735 – July 4, 1826) was an American lawyer, author, statesman, and diplomat. He served as the second President of the United States (1797–1801), the first Vice President (1789–97), and as a Founding Father was a leader of American independence from Great Britain. Adams was a political theorist in the Age of Enlightenment who promoted republicanism and a strong central government. His innovative ideas were frequently published. He was also a dedicated diarist and correspondent, particularly with his wife and key advisor Abigail.
He collaborated with his cousin, revolutionary leader Samuel Adams, but he established his own prominence prior to the American Revolution. After the Boston Massacre, despite severe local anti-British sentiment, he provided a successful though unpopular legal defense of the accused British soldiers, driven by his devotion to the right to counsel and the "protect[ion] of innocence". As a delegate from Massachusetts to the Continental Congress, Adams played a leading role in persuading Congress to declare independence. He assisted Thomas Jefferson in drafting the Declaration of Independence in 1776, and was its foremost advocate in the Congress. As a diplomat in Europe, he helped negotiate the eventual peace treaty with Great Britain, and acquired vital governmental loans from Amsterdam bankers. Adams was the primary author of the Massachusetts Constitution in 1780 which influenced American political theory, as did his earlier Thoughts on Government.

In which John Green teaches you where American politicians come from. In the beginning, soon after the US constitution was adopted, politics were pretty non-existent. George Washington was elected president with no opposition, everything was new and exciting, and everyone just got along. For several months. Then the contentious debate about the nature of the United States began, and it continues to this day. Washington and his lackey/handler Alexander Hamilton pursued an elitist program of federalism. They attempted to strengthen the central government, create a strong nation-state, and leave less of the governance to the states, They wanted to create debt, encourage manufacturing, and really modernize the new nation/ The opposition, creatively known as the anti-federalists, wanted to buil...

This is the first part of John Adams' epic symphony-like work entitled Naive and Sentimental Music. Written in 1998, the title of the work stems from an essay by Friederich Schiller, "On Naive and Sentimental Poetry", which attempts to distinguish between two aspects of art. On the one hand, there is the artist who produces creatively for the sake of art and creativity itself (the "naive"). The "sentimental" artist, however, tends to frame his/her art within a context or sorts, historical or otherwise. Adams cites Bruckner's 4th symphony and the Sonoma coastline of Northern California as inspiration for the piece. Performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Esa-Pekka Salonen (conductor) Images by Rob Cartwright. Check out more of his work here: http://robcartwrightphotography.word...

During the American Revolution, John Adams and his prickly temperament find little diplomatic success in France, where Benjamin Franklin is a big star. However Adams negotiates a large loan in the Netherlands. Son John Quincy Adams is dispatched to Russia as a diplomat's secretary. John Adams then participates in signing the Treaty of Paris, which ends the American War of Independence. The Adams Chronicles was a multi-Emmy award-winning, thirteen-episode series by PBS that aired in 1976 to commemorate the American Bicentennial.

Recorded Live at the University of Arizona, 2012 Performance by Ian Houghton Film by Ian Houghton Copyright, 2012 My concept in creating this film was to have a series of textures, colors, and movements from nature that accompany the music. Because I wanted the music to remain the central focus, the musical form served as the basis for the arc of the film; as musical patterns shift so do the video clips and as we progress through musical modes the subjects of the film change. The video was shot between June - October 2011 across Arizona, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Using a laptop, projector, and foot-pedal to control the clip changes, I was able to present the film with the live performance recorded here.

During the late 1960’s Jazz music was undergoing a major metamorphosis. Miles Davis was musically in transition and went from the traditional acoustic quartet to a more funky electronic sound. Out went the stand-up bass and came the electronic bass. Out with the standard piano and came the Fender Rhodes. Many musicians in what would be hailed as Fusion jazz phase, took rock, soul, and other free form elements and centered it with an electronic base. Musicians like Joe Zawinul, Chick Corea, Les McCann, Herbie Hancock, and Stevie Wonder used the Fender Rhodes as not a replacement to the standard piano, but as a means to create and experimental sound to evolve with the new music that took the world by storm. Pianist and keyboardist Lonnie Liston Smith is a pioneer in the fusion jazz/funk whe...
