Another Day, Another Dollar documentary was intended not as much as a look into life on a dollar a day, as much as a showcase on how to be content on less, and how life is like for us and others in Nepal.
The documentary was originally divided in 4 parts, uploaded in November 2015, with a total time of about 45 minutes.
The Rules
So we came from the angle of already living here, not starting fresh. Locals living on very little already have a home, basic resources, maybe a bicycle or a motorbike for the family.
Before we embarked on this challenge, we had to set some ground rules, and we will make things as transparent as possible for you.
First up, keep in mind this does not include our visa costs, internet, or rent. Our visa is an expense locals don’t have but we need to pay as foreigners. And we were forced to get Internet ever since YouTube started refusing the submission of VHS tapes for video uploads. Not impressed, YouTube.
Secondly, we chose a high exchange rate to use for the Nepali rupee against the American dollar, so we will be working with 107rps each/day as an average, although for simplicities sake, you can think of 100 rupees as one dollar or 100 cents. We will do it for a whole month with no breaks, meaning our budget as a couple is $60 for the month, or 6420 rps.
This is around 20% less than one person earning minimum wage would make. Over 30 per cent of Nepalese live on less than US$14 per person, per month, according to the national living standards survey conducted in 2010-2011.The average daily income in Nepal is closer to $2 a day. Having said that, if we were to spend the average income during this challenge, we would have no problem paying for our rent as well. Keep in mind, though, many local families already own the family home and don’t have to pay rent.
Our living on a dollar is not only our food. No, that would be too easy. It includes cosmetics, shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, vehicle repairs, and any medicine we might need. We are also using cooking gas, which costs about 8cents a day. Many people especially in the rurals don’t use cooking gas, but use wood fires instead for cooking, which if we were to do also would make it a lot easier to keep in budget. But easy is for losers. Just kidding… Since the documentary, we have been forced to cook on wood, and it is not “easy,” but time consuming. It does save about $4/month doing it that way though. But I’d rather pay for the gas in most cases.
To make it easier to calculate our expenses, we put away lots of our stuff that we bought already to start fresh for the month and not get confused or tempted into using something we already bought before.
As we considered what we need to spend on non-food items, we came to realize that this was more of a challenge than anticipated. Blah.
Our Budget
Not only did we stay in budget, but in 30 days we spent an average of $0.85 per day. As we were going according to the Nepali calendar of 32 days for that month of Saun, though, the money we saved allowed us to treat ourselves to a trip and nice meal for the last 2 days when we went to Sauraha, and Chitwan National Park.

In February 2010, Matthew and Andrew Jones founded Poverty Resolutions with the hope of helping those most affected by the devastating earthquake that had struck Port-au-Prince, Haiti. In May, they set out with two of their friends, Chris Matticola and Jon Rose, to live alongside earthquake refugees in Port-au-Prince for 28 days. They committed to spend just $1 per day per person on food, supplies and drinking water in order to better understand the plight of the Haitian people and learn how best to help. Although they came because of the earthquake, they quickly realized that poverty and a lack of jobs, money, and infrastructure were much greater problems. We invite you to share in their story, and learn with us what life is like for the 1.4 billion people living in extreme poverty.

So this video is just the start of a month long (really life long) project that Lou and I started today. It is all about living on less with the goal that if we spend less money on things, we'll have more money in our pockets to do.
For Christmas Lou got the book Extreme Early Retirement by Jacob Lund Fisker and it really set us into motion on how to think more deliberately about the way money flows in and out of our lives. (If you haven't read it I highly recommend it!!)
As you can tell by the videos were making, dedicating ourselves to this creative pursuit is our dream job. We want to be making creative projects that not only sustain our soul, but also feed us and we decided that there was something that we could do to help ourselves get self-sufficient sooner rather than later and that was to tighten our budget.
This month we are dedicated to reducing our food budget to just 3 euros a day. The 3 euros is for everything that we spend the entire month - no extra spending money outside of food either! Granted our bills are paid and we have cleaning supplies and other toilettes already purchased, so that just leaves us with trying to create the most joyous March possible :)
We'll have 6 videos in this series and we hope to cover not only how to make great tasting, healthy meals, but also fun things to do that are free, the struggles that come up and so much more.

This niche market is HUGE on YouTube. Pair the power of YouTube with Twitch and you can start funneling subscribers straight to your YouTube channel. I predict this will be an increasingly popular way to build up a high viewership YouTube channel.
#5 - Affiliate Marketing - my favorite.
This is by far my most favorite way for teenagers to make $100 a day online. Simply review your favorite products by writing content and doing video reviews of the product and posting them to YouTube and your blog. I do this every day and earn a very solid passive income from it.

Poverty Resolutions
Poverty Resolutions is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in February, 2010 in State College, Pennsylvania, by Matthew Jones and Andrew Jones. The mission is to educate America’s youth on poverty in the developing world and inspire them to take action. Work in Haiti is focused on the long term economic improvement by providing sustainable solutions to poverty.
Background
Joining the floods of people to Haiti after the earthquake in 2010 were Matthew and Andrew Jones. They, however, were not going down to help out but to learn what real poverty was like. Matt and Andrew, along with two other friends, went down to Haiti to live in a tent city on $1 a day for food. On the objective of the trip Matthew Jones said,
We decided consciously that we didn't know enough about Haiti, and in order to do long-term development, we needed to ask what the people of Haiti really needed. We decided to go to Haiti first as learners, to say, “I'm sorry we don't understand Haiti. Can you show us and teach us?”

So this video is just the start of a month long (really life long) project that Lou and I started today. It is all about living on less with the goal that if we spend less money on things, we'll have more money in our pockets to do. For Christmas Lou got the book Extreme Early Retirement by Jacob Lund Fisker and it really set us into motion on how to think more deliberately about the way money flows in and out of our lives. (If you haven't read it I highly recommend it!!) As you can tell by the videos were making, dedicating ourselves to this creative pursuit is our dream job. We want to be making creative projects that not only sustain our soul, but also feed us and we decided that there was something that we could do to help ourselves get self-sufficient sooner rather than later and that was to tighten our budget. This month we are dedicated to reducing our food budget to just 3 euros a day. The 3 euros is for everything that we spend the entire month - no extra spending money outside of food either! Granted our bills are paid and we have cleaning supplies and other toilettes already purchased, so that just leaves us with trying to create the most joyous March possible :) We'll have 6 videos in this series and we hope to cover not only how to make great tasting, healthy meals, but also fun things to do that are free, the struggles that come up and so much more. In February 2010, Matthew and Andrew Jones founded Poverty Resolutions with the hope of helping those most affected by the devastating earthquake that had struck Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Another Day, Another Dollar documentary was intended not as much as a look into life on a dollar a day, as much as a showcase on how to be content on less, and how life is like for us and others in Nepal.
The documentary was originally divided in 4 parts, uploaded in November 2015, with a total time of about 45 minutes.
The Rules
So we came from the angle of already living here, not starting fresh. Locals living on very little already have a home, basic resources, maybe a bicycle or a motorbike for the family.
Before we embarked on this challenge, we had to set some ground rules, and we will make things as transparent as possible for you.
First up, keep in mind this does not include our visa costs, internet, or rent. Our visa is an expense locals don’t have but we need to pay as foreigners. And we were forced to get Internet ever since YouTube started refusing the submission of VHS tapes for video uploads. Not impressed, YouTube.
Secondly, we chose a high exchange rate to use for the Nepali rupee against the American dollar, so we will be working with 107rps each/day as an average, although for simplicities sake, you can think of 100 rupees as one dollar or 100 cents. We will do it for a whole month with no breaks, meaning our budget as a couple is $60 for the month, or 6420 rps.
This is around 20% less than one person earning minimum wage would make. Over 30 per cent of Nepalese live on less than US$14 per person, per month, according to the national living standards survey conducted in 2010-2011.The average daily income in Nepal is closer to $2 a day. Having said that, if we were to spend the average income during this challenge, we would have no problem paying for our rent as well. Keep in mind, though, many local families already own the family home and don’t have to pay rent.
Our living on a dollar is not only our food. No, that would be too easy. It includes cosmetics, shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, vehicle repairs, and any medicine we might need. We are also using cooking gas, which costs about 8cents a day. Many people especially in the rurals don’t use cooking gas, but use wood fires instead for cooking, which if we were to do also would make it a lot easier to keep in budget. But easy is for losers. Just kidding… Since the documentary, we have been forced to cook on wood, and it is not “easy,” but time consuming. It does save about $4/month doing it that way though. But I’d rather pay for the gas in most cases.
To make it easier to calculate our expenses, we put away lots of our stuff that we bought already to start fresh for the month and not get confused or tempted into using something we already bought before.
As we considered what we need to spend on non-food items, we came to realize that this was more of a challenge than anticipated. Blah.
Our Budget
Not only did we stay in budget, but in 30 days we spent an average of $0.85 per day. As we were going according to the Nepali calendar of 32 days for that month of Saun, though, the money we saved allowed us to treat ourselves to a trip and nice meal for the last 2 days when we went to Sauraha, and Chitwan National Park.

In February 2010, Matthew and Andrew Jones founded Poverty Resolutions with the hope of helping those most affected by the devastating earthquake that had struck Port-au-Prince, Haiti. In May, they set out with two of their friends, Chris Matticola and Jon Rose, to live alongside earthquake refugees in Port-au-Prince for 28 days. They committed to spend just $1 per day per person on food, supplies and drinking water in order to better understand the plight of the Haitian people and learn how best to help. Although they came because of the earthquake, they quickly realized that poverty and a lack of jobs, money, and infrastructure were much greater problems. We invite you to share in their story, and learn with us what life is like for the 1.4 billion people living in extreme poverty.

So this video is just the start of a month long (really life long) project that Lou and I started today. It is all about living on less with the goal that if we spend less money on things, we'll have more money in our pockets to do.
For Christmas Lou got the book Extreme Early Retirement by Jacob Lund Fisker and it really set us into motion on how to think more deliberately about the way money flows in and out of our lives. (If you haven't read it I highly recommend it!!)
As you can tell by the videos were making, dedicating ourselves to this creative pursuit is our dream job. We want to be making creative projects that not only sustain our soul, but also feed us and we decided that there was something that we could do to help ourselves get self-sufficient sooner rather than later and that was to tighten our budget.
This month we are dedicated to reducing our food budget to just 3 euros a day. The 3 euros is for everything that we spend the entire month - no extra spending money outside of food either! Granted our bills are paid and we have cleaning supplies and other toilettes already purchased, so that just leaves us with trying to create the most joyous March possible :)
We'll have 6 videos in this series and we hope to cover not only how to make great tasting, healthy meals, but also fun things to do that are free, the struggles that come up and so much more.

#5 - Affiliate Marketing - my favorite.
This is by far my most favorite way for teenagers to make $100 a day online. Simply review your favorite products by writing content and doing video reviews of the product and posting them to YouTube and your blog. I do this every day and earn a very solid passive income from it.

Another Day, Another Dollar documentary was intended not as much as a look into life on a dollar a day, as much as a showcase on how to be content on less, and how life is like for us and others in Nepal.
The documentary was originally divided in 4 parts, uploaded in November 2015, with a total time of about 45 minutes.
The Rules
So we came from the angle of already living here, not starting fresh. Locals living on very little already have a home, basic resources, maybe a bicycle or a motorbike for the family.
Before we embarked on this challenge, we had to set some ground rules, and we will make things as transparent as possible for you.
First up, keep in mind this does not include our visa costs, internet, or rent. Our visa is an expense locals don’t have but we need to pay as foreigners. And we were forced to get Internet ever since YouTube started refusing the submission of VHS tapes for video uploads. Not impressed, YouTube.
Secondly, we chose a high exchange rate to use for the Nepali rupee against the American dollar, so we will be working with 107rps each/day as an average, although for simplicities sake, you can think of 100 rupees as one dollar or 100 cents. We will do it for a whole month with no breaks, meaning our budget as a couple is $60 for the month, or 6420 rps.
This is around 20% less than one person earning minimum wage would make. Over 30 per cent of Nepalese live on less than US$14 per person, per month, according to the national living standards survey conducted in 2010-2011.The average daily income in Nepal is closer to $2 a day. Having said that, if we were to spend the average income during this challenge, we would have no problem paying for our rent as well. Keep in mind, though, many local families already own the family home and don’t have to pay rent.
Our living on a dollar is not only our food. No, that would be too easy. It includes cosmetics, shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, vehicle repairs, and any medicine we might need. We are also using cooking gas, which costs about 8cents a day. Many people especially in the rurals don’t use cooking gas, but use wood fires instead for cooking, which if we were to do also would make it a lot easier to keep in budget. But easy is for losers. Just kidding… Since the documentary, we have been forced to cook on wood, and it is not “easy,” but time consuming. It does save about $4/month doing it that way though. But I’d rather pay for the gas in most cases.
To make it easier to calculate our expenses, we put away lots of our stuff that we bought already to start fresh for the month and not get confused or tempted into using something we already bought before.
As we considered what we need to spend on non-food items, we came to realize that this was more of a challenge than anticipated. Blah.
Our Budget
Not only did we stay in budget, but in 30 days we spent an average of $0.85 per day. As we were going according to the Nepali calendar of 32 days for that month of Saun, though, the money we saved allowed us to treat ourselves to a trip and nice meal for the last 2 days when we went to Sauraha, and Chitwan National Park.

We filmed from July 17th-August 17th, 2015.
Another Day, Another Dollar documentary was intended not as much as a look into life on a dollar a day, as much as a showcase on how to be content on less, and how life is like for us and others in Nepal.
The documentary was originally divided in 4 parts, uploaded in November 2015, with a total time of about 45 minutes.
The Rules
So we came from the angle of already living here, not starting fresh. Locals living on very little already have a home, basic resources, maybe a bicycle or a motorbike for the family.
Before we embarked on this challenge, we had to set some ground rules, and we will make things as transparent as possible for you.
First up, keep in mind this does not include our visa costs, internet, or rent. Our visa is an expense locals don’t have but we need to pay as foreigners. And we were forced to get Internet ever since YouTube started refusing the submission of VHS tapes for video uploads. Not impressed, YouTube.
Secondly, we chose a high exchange rate to use for the Nepali rupee against the American dollar, so we will be working with 107rps each/day as an average, although for simplicities sake, you can think of 100 rupees as one dollar or 100 cents. We will do it for a whole month with no breaks, meaning our budget as a couple is $60 for the month, or 6420 rps.
This is around 20% less than one person earning minimum wage would make. Over 30 per cent of Nepalese live on less than US$14 per person, per month, according to the national living standards survey conducted in 2010-2011.The average daily income in Nepal is closer to $2 a day. Having said that, if we were to spend the average income during this challenge, we would have no problem paying for our rent as well. Keep in mind, though, many local families already own the family home and don’t have to pay rent.
Our living on a dollar is not only our food. No, that would be too easy. It includes cosmetics, shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, vehicle repairs, and any medicine we might need. We are also using cooking gas, which costs about 8cents a day. Many people especially in the rurals don’t use cooking gas, but use wood fires instead for cooking, which if we were to do also would make it a lot easier to keep in budget. But easy is for losers. Just kidding… Since the documentary, we have been forced to cook on wood, and it is not “easy,” but time consuming. It does save about $4/month doing it that way though. But I’d rather pay for the gas in most cases.
To make it easier to calculate our expenses, we put away lots of our stuff that we bought already to start fresh for the month and not get confused or tempted into using something we already bought before.
As we considered what we need to spend on non-food items, we came to realize that this was more of a challenge than anticipated. Blah.
Our Budget
Not only did we stay in budget, but in 30 days we spent an average of $0.85 per day. As we were going according to the Nepali calendar of 32 days for that month of Saun, though, the money we saved allowed us to treat ourselves to a trip and nice meal for the last 2 days when we went to Sauraha, and Chitwan National Park.

So this video is just the start of a month long (really life long) project that Lou and I started today. It is all about living on less with the goal that if we spend less money on things, we'll have more money in our pockets to do.
For Christmas Lou got the book Extreme Early Retirement by Jacob Lund Fisker and it really set us into motion on how to think more deliberately about the way money flows in and out of our lives. (If you haven't read it I highly recommend it!!)
As you can tell by the videos were making, dedicating ourselves to this creative pursuit is our dream job. We want to be making creative projects that not only sustain our soul, but also feed us and we decided that there was something that we could do to help ourselves get self-sufficient sooner rather than later and that was to tighten our budget.
This month we are dedicated to reducing our food budget to just 3 euros a day. The 3 euros is for everything that we spend the entire month - no extra spending money outside of food either! Granted our bills are paid and we have cleaning supplies and other toilettes already purchased, so that just leaves us with trying to create the most joyous March possible :)
We'll have 6 videos in this series and we hope to cover not only how to make great tasting, healthy meals, but also fun things to do that are free, the struggles that come up and so much more.

This niche market is HUGE on YouTube. Pair the power of YouTube with Twitch and you can start funneling subscribers straight to your YouTube channel. I predict this will be an increasingly popular way to build up a high viewership YouTube channel.
#5 - Affiliate Marketing - my favorite.
This is by far my most favorite way for teenagers to make $100 a day online. Simply review your favorite products by writing content and doing video reviews of the product and posting them to YouTube and your blog. I do this every day and earn a very solid passive income from it.
