The British and Irish Lions is a rugby union team selected from players eligible for any of the Home Unions and Ireland – the national sides of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The Lions are a Test side, and generally select international players, but they can pick uncapped players available to any one of the four unions. The side tours every four years, with these rotating among Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. The 2009 Test series was lost 2–1 to South Africa, while the 2013 Test series was won 2–1 over Australia.
From 1888 onwards combined rugby sides from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland toured the Southern Hemisphere. The first tour was a commercial venture, and was undertaken without official backing. The six subsequent visits enjoyed a growing degree of support from the authorities, before the 1910 South Africa tour, which was the first tour representative of the four Home Unions. In 1949 the four Home Unions formally created a Tours Committee and for the first time, every player of the 1950 Lions squad had played internationally before the tour. The 1950s tours saw high win rates in provincial games, but the Test series were typically lost or drawn. The winning series in 1971 (New Zealand) and 1974 (South Africa) changed this pattern. The last tour of the amateur age took place in 1993.
The New Zealand national men's rugby union team, officially nicknamed the All Blacks, represents New Zealand in men's rugby union, which is regarded as the country's national sport. The All Blacks are three time winners, and current holders of the Rugby World Cup, having won the inaugural competition in 1987, then won consecutive titles in 2011 and 2015, and are the 2015 World Rugby Team of the Year. They have won over 76% of their test matches and are the leading test match points scorers of all time. Their win ratio puts them amongst the most successful teams of any sport in history. They are the only international side with a winning record against every country they have played, and since their international debut in 1903 only five nations have defeated New Zealand in test matches. Since the introduction of the World Rugby Rankings in October 2003, New Zealand has held the number one ranking longer than all other teams combined. The All Blacks are also the first team to set their hands on the Webb Ellis Cup, the first team to win back to back Rugby World Cups, and the first team to win the cup on three separate occasions.
The lion (Panthera leo) is one of the five big cats in the genus Panthera and a member of the family Felidae. The commonly used term African lion collectively denotes the several subspecies found in Africa. With some males exceeding 250 kg (550 lb) in weight, it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger. Wild lions currently exist in sub-Saharan Africa and in Asia (where an endangered remnant population resides in Gir Forest National Park in India) while other types of lions have disappeared from North Africa and Southwest Asia in historic times. Until the late Pleistocene, about 10,000 years ago, the lion was the most widespread large land mammal after humans. They were found in most of Africa, across Eurasia from western Europe to India, and in the Americas from the Yukon to Peru. The lion is a vulnerable species, having seen a major population decline in its African range of 30–50% per two decades during the second half of the twentieth century. Lion populations are untenable outside designated reserves and national parks. Although the cause of the decline is not fully understood, habitat loss and conflicts with humans are currently the greatest causes of concern. Within Africa, the West African lion population is particularly endangered.

Take a look at the team to face the New Zealand in the third, final and decisive Test in the 2017 series at Eden Park.
A victory for the British & Irish Lions in Auckland would give tourists only their second ever Test series win in New Zealand, emulating the famous 1971 squad. But beating the All Blacks at Eden Park is something no Test team has achieved since 1994, a run of over 35 matches. Warren Gatland has put his faith in the same players who heroically fought back to win in Wellington last weekend while Steven Hansen has shuffled his backline. While the outcome is unknown, a mouth-watering occasion awaits
Fly-half Johnny Sexton insists the British & Irish Lions squad have taken as much from their victory over the All Blacks last week as they did from defeat in the first Test as they look to produce their best performance yet in the series decider.

The 2013 British & Irish Lions Rugby tour to Australia was one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year. The clash was epic - and the TV commercial for the event was just as heroic. As lead Flame Artist/compositor it was my task to ensure absolute realism for the commercial - especially those shots involving the lion, shot on bluescreen half a world away! In addition to re-lighting the existing lion footage in 2D, there was a lot of other comp to do - such as adding feet to the lion where they were cropped out of frame, removing signage from the stadium, matte painting and re-lighting for the stadium to make the setting more ambiguous, plate cleanups, comping the boy into shots that were previously sans boy, rebuilding the stadium and projecting onto geometry to fake camera mov...

The British & Irish Lions Tour is a 3 Test Series played every 12 years. With 30,000 insurgent Brits on the way there was scant room left for the casual Aussie rugby fan. We wanted every fan to be a part of the action, wherever they were, so we created Samsung Stadium – a virtual, real time, audience experience connecting Wallabies fans together when their team needed them most. Powered by social feeds on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, exclusive alternate commentary from Roy & HG brought 60,000 active fans closer to the action in Australia’s only virtual stadium.
At any given moment an identity's borders may shift and blur according to prevailing attitudes and political realities. Those who were black, Jewish or British yesterday may find themselves differently designated tomorrow. The recent case of South African sprinter Caster Semanya illustrates even sex is not as definite a category as many assume. It is precisely in those borderlands - the margins - that the mainstream is defined. Gatekeepers, both official and popular, attempt to police these frontiers. But humanity, ever dynamic and evolving, finds ways to evade their grasp. So what is marginal and what is mainstream are both relative to each other and in a constant state of change within themselves. Video recap of my July 2013 trip from San Francisco to Sydney in support of the British & Irish Lions. The Lions triumphed, 41-16 over the Wallabies in "The Decider," claiming victory in a Lions Tour for the first time since 1997. After Jonny Sexton's try to seal things up I jumped across the aisle and started hugging, jumping with other Lions fans. At that point someone reached down into my seat and took my camera out of my pocket which eliminated all of the game footage I had compiled, leaving me only with my phone for the crowd reactions as the game concluded. The only letdown from an otherwise fantastic trip.

Think of the love that I gave you
When you're living all alone
I don't know how to behave with you
Wish you'd bury my love like a bone
And baby we can dig it out
And baby we can dig it in
But if you leave me lying here
You'll be guilty of a sin
Remember the days that we spent
Trying out a little tenderness
Now who's the lucky guy
With your hands on him and his on your dress
Remember the time that we spent
Alone in our room?
Did we create a harmony
Or just an image of this fool?
'n Mama
My life's in your hands
My life's in your hands
My life's in your hands
Now here's a big empty man
He's alive but his head's in his hands
And just like the sands of time
You can feel him going down
Just can't escape his reason and rhyme
So don't you think you won the game
His memory lives in you just the same
And I know you're thinking o' him
And you are guilty of the sin
'n Mama
My life's in your hands
My life's in your hands
My life's in your hands
My life's in your hands
Babe, my life's in your hands
Look at me, your life's in my hands
Look at you, my life's in your hands
Hey, yeahhh
'n Mama
My life's in your hands
My life's in your hands
Hey, my life's in your hands
Ooh, my life's in your hands
I believe these changing days
Have burned my love in fiery flames
