Uganda (/juːˈɡændə/ yew-GAN-də or /juːˈɡɑːndə/ yew-GAHN-də), officially the Republic of Uganda, is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is bordered to the east by Kenya, to the north by South Sudan, to the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the southwest by Rwanda, and to the south by Tanzania. Uganda is the world's second most populous landlocked country after Ethiopia. The southern part of the country includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria, shared with Kenya and Tanzania, situating the country in the African Great Lakes region. Uganda also lies within the Nile basin, and has a varied but generally a modified equatorial climate.
Uganda takes its name from the Buganda kingdom, which encompasses a large portion of the south of the country, including the capital Kampala. The people of Uganda were hunter-gatherers until 1,700 to 2,300 years ago, when Bantu-speaking populations migrated to the southern parts of the country.

In the last 20 years Uganda's economy has grown by an estimated seven percent year on year. Al Jazeera's Malcom Webb reports from Kampala.
Uganda is looking forward to 2017 as a year of strong economic growth. The country says negative sentiments and uncertainty dominated 2016. The election cycle also saw many investors develop cold feet but the Bank of Uganda says the economy is beginning to gain momentum. CGTN's Michael Baleke has that report.
The central bank is optimistic that Uganda’s economy will claw back in the next financial year as it moves to facilitate private sector growth. The Central Bank hope is premised on a reduction in the borrowing rate by one percent to 10 percent. Bank of Uganda governor Professor Emmanuel Mutebile says the massive investment in infrastructure projects and an increase in foreign direct investments will see the economy grow at 5 percent from 3.9.
Uganda's government says the country's economy is stressed but not in a recession. This follows a new report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that shows that Uganda's economy is performing relatively well, but in a complex environment. CCTV's Michael Baleke has that report.

Ugandan traders who have previously done brisk business in South Sudan are counting their losses as instability continues across the border. here that what is happening in the banking sector, with Bank of Uganda taking over the management of some banks, should not be a cause for panic about the country’s economy. According to Byensi Lawrence, the acting executive director of Uganda Investments Authority, Uganda has got many banking options that can provide financial services to any investor who needs such services. To him, any business has got its good and bad times, all of which must be treated accordingly.
Uganda's economy contracted by 1.3 percent in the third quarter of the financial year ending in June, down from growth of 1.7 percent in the previous quarter. Statistics show that processed output from the farm sector declined, as well as forestry activities.

The newly produced series ‘Aid or Trade?’ shows that aid is no longer about transferring money or shipping goods. It’s rather about setting up sustainable companies, while taking local constraints and the environment into account. An article in the Economist recently stated 'Western governments should open up to trade rather than just dish out aid … Autocracy, corruption and strife will not disappear overnight. But at a dark time for the world economy, Africa’s progress is a reminder of the transformative promise of growth.' This 5 episode-series 'Aid or Trade?' (5 x 14 minutes) shows an optimistic and nuanced perspective and portrays successful combinations and collaborations. The program highlights high-potential or successful initiatives: often collaboration between NGO’s, private, and...

‘Should the Batwa be treated any differently?’ Batwa are a marginalized and powerless minority but also because their legitimate historical and continuing claims to the forest territories have often not been recognised, partly because the recognition of Indigenous People’s rights is so often resisted in the African context. Batwa of Mikingo Hill have not received land and are not afforded forest access, nor are the Batwa integrated into the mainstream projects being proposed by local government. Batwa of south west Uganda have been denied access to their forest resource base since the creation of the Bwindi, Mgahinga and Echuya forest reserves by the British colonial administration in the 1930s. However, with the establishment of Bwindi and Mgahinga as National Parks under the admin...

Living in a poor country with one of the worst doctor-patient ratios in the world - about one for every 24,000 people - it's perhaps no surprise that many Ugandans are tempted by alternative remedies, even though there's often little evidence to support the claims made about their efficacy in treating or preventing disease. But the phenomenon does beg many questions, not least of which are who is really benefiting from the sale of these products and how exactly are they marketed? We'd heard reports about one particularly controversial business, a complex multi-level marketing scheme run in Uganda under the aegis of a Chinese company called Tiens, which produces food supplements. Its products, we'd been told, were being inappropriately sold as medications - in some cases for very serious ...
In the second installment of our special focus on the state of health care in Africa, we head to Uganda where health care campaigners warn there could be a breakdown in medical provision, if emigration of doctors and nurses continues. They're demanding that more controls be brought in. This follows Uganda's decision to consider transferring around 200 medical professionals to Trinidad and Tobago. CCTV'S Isabel Nakirya reports
Cell Phones continue to affect the lives of many in Sub-Saharan Africa, and the health sector is among the latest beneficiaries of better, cheaper, mobile access. In Uganda, mobile operators have rolled out health services through their subscribers' handsets. It's hoped the new services will boost access to health care for many, especially those in parts of Uganda that are yet to gain access to proper medical care. CCTV's Michael Baleke reports

2009. 6m33s. English with English Subtitles. In rural parts of Uganda, health care experts rarely have access to the kinds of documentation that their colleagues in the developed world may have - medical journals, reference materials, and always on connectivity are often not available. To address this, UHIN has developed a low cost means of transmitting this information to healthcare workers in rural Uganda by using PDAs and existing cellular telephony networks. This video considers how the system is being used in the Lyantonde district of the country, with a focus on two clinics. Connectivity Africa has supported the work of UHIN since 2003. Boniface Mutatina, a McMaster Health Forum Queen Elizabeth Scholar in Strengthening Health Systems, provides a critical overview of the Ugandan healthcare system (webinar recording). The Ugandan health system, like other systems, aims to achieve, promote and sustain good health for its people. The health system has been evolving over the last 3 to 4 decades to handle emerging concerns and challenges to the health situation in the country. Currently, healthcare delivery is done through a decentralized framework mostly, through modern and to some extent traditional practices. According to international health indicators, healthcare in Uganda is becoming more accessible and robustly a public donor-private interlinked sector. The aim of this paper is to provide a critical description of the U...
The woes in Uganda’s health sector are not about to end, not even with the huge sums of money that were allocated to the sector in the financial year 2014/2015. English/Nat A shadowy rebel group has brought a reign of terror to northern Uganda. APTV visited the northern town of Gulu, in the heart of rebel territory, where the local population is subjected to constant rebel attacks. Thousands of soldiers garrisoned in and around Gulu have failed to deter rebel attacks by the Lord's Resistance Army or L-R-A. 40 years ago Uganda was home to a large Asian community, Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs called it paradise. But the peace and tranquillity that existed for generations was to be short lived due to the actions of Idi Amin. In 1972 he ordered Asians to leave the country and were given just 90 days to flee. Pukaar News travelled to Uganda with Businessman Khalid Sheikh from Leicester. He was born in Uganda but had to leave with his family when he was just 14, but he regularly returns to visit his mothers grave. Pukaar News spoke to other Ugandan Asians who were forced to leave 40 years ago but have since returned to the county and re-started businesses including Mayur Madhvani and Sudhir Ruparelia.

Ugandans are the hardest drinking Africans in the motherland, both in terms of per capita consumption and the hooch they choose to chug. Waregi, or "war gin," is what they call the local moonshine, and it makes the harshest Appalachian rotgut taste like freaking Bailey's. ich habe neununddreißigsieben fieber und bin in meinem wahn mal wieder lee
majors - als sechsmillionendollarmann
ich setze segel auf dem meer und streiche sie dann mit zidane in den farben von
real madrid an.
