Craig Melvin

Craig Delano Melvin (born May 20, 1979) is an American journalist and news anchor, working for NBC News and MSNBC as an anchor and NBC News correspondent. He currently anchors MSNBC Live on Saturdays and Sundays, and was a fill-in host for Lester Holt on Weekend Today. He is currently interim co-anchor on Weekend Today.

Professional

In 2012, Melvin anchored MSNBC's coverage for the Republican and Democratic National conventions, as well as Election Night coverage for TVOne in partnership with NBC News. Melvin often anchors topical matters of public interest. He covered Asiana Airlines 214 crash in July 2013, the George Zimmerman trial, the deadly tornado in Moore, Oklahoma, the Sandy Hook shooting in December 2012, and the West Fertilizer Company plant explosion in 2013.

Personal life

Melvin is from Columbia, South Carolina. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Wofford College. His parents are Lawrence and Betty Melvin. He has a younger brother, Ryan Melvin, and an older brother, Rev. Lawrence Meadows. He is a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.

Vero Beach, Florida

Vero Beach is a city in Indian River County, Florida, in the United States. According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2010 data, the city had a population of 15,220. It is the county seat of Indian River County.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 15,220 people, 7,505 households, and 3,946 families residing in the city. There were 10,258 housing units. The racial makeup of the city was 87.5% White, 4.8% African American, 0.30% Native American, 1.8% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 3.7% from other races, and 1.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10.7% of the population.

There were 7,505 households out of which 16.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.2% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 47.4% were non-families. 19.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older with 4.8% being 85 years and older. The average household size was 2.01 and the average family size was 2.65.

Television film

A television film (also known as a TV film; television movie; TV movie; telefilm; telemovie; made-for-television film; direct-to-TV film; movie of the week (MOTW or MOW); feature-length drama; single drama and original movie) is a feature-length motion picture that is produced for, and originally distributed by or to, a television network, in contrast to theatrical films, which are made explicitly for initial showing in movie theaters.

Origins and history

Though not exactly labelled as such, there were early precedents for "television movies", such as Talk Faster, Mister, which aired on WABD (now WNYW) in New York City on December 18, 1944, and was produced by RKO Pictures, or the 1957 The Pied Piper of Hamelin, based on the poem by Robert Browning, and starring Van Johnson, one of the first filmed "family musicals" made directly for television. That film was made in Technicolor, a first for television, which ordinarily used color processes originated by specific networks (most "family musicals" of the time, such as Peter Pan, were not filmed but broadcast live and preserved on kinescope, a recording of a television program made by filming the picture from a video monitor – and the only method of recording a television program until the invention of videotape).

City council

A city council, town council, town board, or board of aldermen is the legislative body that governs a city, town, municipality or local government area.

Australia and New Zealand

Because of the differences in legislation between the States, the exact definition of a City Council varies. However, it is generally only those local government areas which have been specifically granted city status (usually on a basis of population) that are entitled to refer to themselves as cities. The official title is "Corporation of the City of ------" or similar.

Some of the larger urban areas of Australia are governed mostly by a single entity (see Brisbane and other Queensland cities), while others maybe controlled by a multitude of much smaller city councils. Also some significant urban areas can be under the jurisdiction of otherwise rural local governments. Periodic re-alignments of boundaries attempt to rationalize these situations and adjust the deployment of assets and resources.

Local councils in New Zealand do vary in structure, but are overseen by the government department Local Government New Zealand. For many decades until the local government reforms of 1989, a borough with more than 20,000 people could be proclaimed a city. The boundaries of councils tended to follow the edge of the built-up area, so little distinction was made between the urban area and the local government area.
