Cycling, also called bicycling or biking, is the use of bicycles for transport, recreation, exercise or sport. Persons engaged in cycling are referred to as "cyclists", "bikers", or less commonly, as "bicyclists". Apart from two-wheeled bicycles, "cycling" also includes the riding of unicycles, tricycles, quadracycles, recumbent and similar human-powered vehicles (HPVs).
Bicycles were introduced in the 19th century and now number approximately one billion worldwide. They are the principal means of transportation in many parts of the world.
Cycling is widely regarded as a very effective and efficient mode of transportation optimal for short to moderate distances.
Bicycles provide numerous benefits in comparison with motor vehicles, including the sustained physical exercise involved in cycling, easier parking, increased maneuverability, and access to both roads, bike paths and rural trails. Cycling also offers a reduced consumption of fossil fuels, less air or noise pollution, much reduced traffic congestion. These lead to less financial cost to the user as well as to society at large (negligible damage to roads, less road area required). By fitting bicycle racks on the front of buses, transit agencies can significantly increase the areas they can serve.
Pretty much my cycling story, got fat, got a bike, fell in love, got dropped, got motivated, got fast-ish, ate better food, started racing, lost, a lot, did ok, burnt out, yadyadyada.... Just watch it, I super hope you dig it and it makes you get out and ride. ----------------------------------------------------- GET THE KIT! Don't go into the red! Pace yourself, don't go flat out at the bottom. 2. Under gearing, spin to win is all well and good, but spinning at a very high cadence is simply not efficient. 3. Over gearing. You may damage your knees, and simply you are not mechanically efficient when grinding a big...

Introducing the Dutch Cycling Embassy, the world's cycling experts sharing experiences.
Urbandaddy asked us to create an installation for the E2NY Music and Arts festival this summer. We proposed a head to head bike race inspired by Goldsprints, but with more of a design focus. We mapped forests, foxbears and orbs to the speed of the bikes, giving the riders a sense of their speed. Riders face off against friends, enemies and strangers to see who can ride the farthest in 60 seconds. The faster the cyclist, the more environments and creatures they unlock. A lucky few even made it into space, and one guy puked.
A short documentary film about my grandfather and his passion for cycling. I made this as a gift for his 80th birthday (or his ‘4th 20th birthday’, as he likes to say). Un court documentaire sur mon grand-père et sa passion du vélo. J’ai realisé ce film en tant que cadeau pour son 80ème anniversaire (ou son ‘4ème 20èm’e comme il se plait à dire). It's no secret that just about anywhere you go in the Netherlands is an incredible place to bicycle. And in Groningen, a northern city with a population of 190,000 and a bike mode share of 50 percent, the cycling is as comfortable as in any city on Earth. The sheer number of people riding at any one time will astound you, as will the absence of automobiles in the city center, where cars seem extinct. It is remarkable just how quiet the city is. People go about their business running errands by bike, going to work by bike, and even holding hands by bike. The story of how they got there is a mix of great transportation policy, location and chance. You'll learn quite a bit of history in the film, but essentially Groningen decided in the 1970s to enact policies to make it easier to walk and b...
A short piece I shot in Utrecht, Holland over a few afternoons & evenings in march. I really enjoyed the old historic city centre with the canals and beautiful dutch architecture. I shot it on the Black Magic Cinema Camera with the micro four thirds mount. Everything was shot with a Nikon 50mm 1,4G lens, mounted with the Metabones Speedbooster and a GenusTech variND. The Nikon 50 isn't the sharpest, but I like the organic look it produces on the wider apertures. Everything was either handheld or on a monopod. The bmcc is certainly no lowlight champion, but with the added stop or so from the speed booster, it works quite well for even darkish street shots if you have fast glass. I like the look from this camera more & more every time I use it and I love how far the raw files can be pushed ...
I turned a few heads when I went for a naked cycle ride along a busy cycleway. Look out for the woman in pink!

TVC: Design, Look Development, Compositing (Flame) We emerge from the clouds, leaving the misty skies only to see a landscape as colourless as fog, the sky and ocean pale reflections of each other. The only specks of colour are far off dots, bright yellows, pinks, and purples, racing across a barren landscape towards an anodyne city, buildings in the distance like the shards of white glass. As we come closer the dots take form, coalesce like fireflies into shapes, shapes becoming riders racing through a city whose blank features begin to show familiar Melbourne landmarks. The camera sweeps down lower, passing amongst the cyclists, through their very bodies, the colourful dots filling screen as the winner explodes across the finishing line, resolving to the UCI Melbourne 2010 logo. The cycle of addiction.
Sleeping in sheets has never felt this way
Naked ghosts in front of me, feels like lying awake (Lying awake)
They let me see another awful game
but I'm the kid that never played, never played
The more you try to pull me down, the more I know I'm getting strong
So shut up don't lie, this time it's you and I (I know you're wrong)
So shut up don't try, to be on my own side (I know you're wrong)
This local scene has took the best of me
but we're not the ones who are gonna fall (we-'re-not-gonna-fall)
face the fact no one is missing you
just realize this song is something you deserve
The more you try to pull me down, the more I know I'm getting strong
So shut up don't lie, this time it's you and I (I know you're wrong)
So shut up don't try, to be on my own side (I know you're wrong)
Your show it's over now
you made a fool of yourself
red nose up for you my dirty clown
not matter what you say
we know you'll never change
as we let go (every time)
then you should know
So shut up don't lie, this time it's you and I (I know you're wrong)
