Paste Modern Thai Food - One of The Best Restaurants in Bangkok
Paste Modern Thai Food - One of The Best Restaurants in Bangkok
Paste is one of the best restaurants in Bangkok that specializes in extremely high quality modern Thai food. Get all the details here - http://migrationology.com/2013/08/paste-restaurant-bangkok/ There are many amazing restaurants in Bangkok serving everything from international cuisine to Thai food in a variety of different forms and scales. The chefs at Paste Bangkok emphasize that they don't serve fusion food - which is a combination of different cuisines merged together - but instead they focus on modern Thai food, innovation and progressive Thai cuisine. In other words, most of the ingredients are locally sourced and the recipes, though creative, are all within the traditional spectrum of Thai ingredients and flavor combination. Modern Thai food is the next step in Thai cuisine, new and modern techniques combined with traditional recipes, all within the same genre of Thai food. And as one of the best restaurants in Bangkok serving upscale Thai food, Paste uses extremely high quality ingredients and precise cooking techniques to produce a truly mouthwatering menu of flavorsome Thai dishes. It was my privilege in this Thai food video to visit one of the best restaurants in Bangkok for a sample of modern Thai food at its finest. I first begin sampling a dish they call "the ultimate-twice cooked-caramelised-pork leg with pickled bamboo shoot, pickled mustard and coriander (สุดยอดขาหมูเสริฟ์กับหน่อไม้ดอง, ผักกาดดองและผักชี)." The pork leg was marinated before being flash deep fried to make it crispy on the edged. It was then arranged onto a serving plate along with pickled bamboo shoots, a caramel glaze, and sprinkled with shaved chilies and cilantro leaves. My first bite was pure heaven as the chunk of pork leg literally melted into my mouth, the fat and meat both falling apart as I chewed. The caramel contrasted the chilies and and complemented the tender pork. It was outstanding. Next up I sampled the "mangosteen salad with pan seared scallop and roasted chilli jam (ยำมังคุดกับหอยเชลล์)," which is a good example of a modern Thai food dish at Paste. Mangosteen is a common Thai fruit, yet it's rarely seen in a dish, so at Paste they've taken Thai ingredients and come up with creative local recipes. Along with pan seared scallops, kernels of mangosteen were combined with lemongrass and mint leaves and dressed in a chili jam which was similar to Thai prik pao roasted chili sauce. To top off the towing dish was a sprinkle of finely sliced Siam tulips. Again, this was an incredible tasting dish with a complexity of delicious flavors combined. Lastly we enjoyed a "crispy skin free range duck (เป็ดมะแขว่นเสิร์ฟกับซอสส้มและโป๊ยกั๊ก)" which was drizzled with fresh orange and star anise sauce. First steamed to get the juices flowing, it was then deep fried to give it a crunch. The northern Thai pepper, in the same family as the famous Sichuan pepper, was rubbed over to skin to make it extremely fragrant. All the dishes I've eaten at Paste Bangkok have been superb. Paste is truly one of the best restaurants in Bangkok that serves upscale elegant, and true to flavor Thai food. The chefs at Paste are doing an excellent job of pushing Thai food to new levels and progressing it into a new and modern form. Amazing Thai Isaan Food in Bangkok - Som Tam Pu Maa Restaurant (ส้มตำปูม้า)
Amazing Thai Isaan Food in Bangkok - Som Tam Pu Maa Restaurant (ส้มตำปูม้า)
Som Tam Pu Maa (ส้มตำปูม้า) is one of my favorite Isaan restaurants in Bangkok. Get more details here - http://www.eatingthaifood.com/2011/04/som-tam-boo-maa-restaurant-sensational-thai-isan-food/ Though it's located a little outside of central Bangkok, on the Thonburi side of the city, one of my all time long standing Thai Isaan food restaurants in Bangkok is Som Tam Pu Maa (ส้มตำปูม้า). Before, I previously lived in the area, so I would eat there quite frequently, but since I don't anymore, anytime I'm in the area I make a pitstop. For this particular meal, we ordered up a feast that included some of the best tasting dishes from this fine Isaan restaurant. There's both a downstairs and an upstairs to Som Tam Pu Maa (ส้มตำปูม้า), the upstairs only used when the downstairs is full, and there's an air-con on the upstairs floor as well. All the cooking, like most common Thai restaurants, happens on the bottom floor at the entrance to the restaurant. We began things off with the pla pao (ปลาเผา), which is a roasted snake head fish. The fish is first stuffed with lemongrass, and then covered on the outside in salt before being roasted over charcoal. The result is an immaculate beauty where the fish stays moist on the inside and just slightly salty from the skin. The real bonus at Som Tam Pu Maa (ส้มตำปูม้า), and one of the reasons it's one of the best Thai Isaan food restaurants in Bangkok, is their incredible sauces. The roasted chili sauce, which reminds me of Mexican chipotle, is particularly outstanding. After the fish, I then took a bite of the Kaeng Om (แกงอ่อม), an extremely herbaceous and fresh soup made with lots of vegetables and herbs. Cooking on a high heat fire, the soup cooked extremely fast so all the vegetables were still crispy and flavorful and not overcooked. It's another common Thai Isaan food dish. I've been a huge fan of larb pla duk (ลาบปลาดุก) ever since I came to Thailand, but few other Isaan restaurants debone the catfish body, and then re-attach the head to serve it. Everything is a trophy at Som Tam Pu Maa (ส้มตำปูม้า). The larb pla duk (ลาบปลาดุก) is extraordinary at this restaurant. They use just the right amount of spice and herbs to accentuate the smoky flavored fish. Another favorite of mine is the yam makua yao (ยำมะเขือยาว), which is a roasted eggplant salad that's mixed with minced pork and boiled egg before being dressed in lime juice and fish sauce. Another winner! We did order a plate of som tam thai, but I won't even get into that as it's the most common Thai Isaan food dish available. We also ordered yam pla duk foo (ยำปลาดุกฟู), a fluffy deep fried catfish that's served with a marvelous sour green mango sauce. Anyway, the Thai Isaan food at Som Tam Pu Maa (ส้มตำปูม้า) is absolutely extraordinary! Making of Thai food in a restaurant - Bangkok
Making of Thai food in a restaurant - Bangkok
No, these are not jalebis being made in India, but a Thai preparation on the streets of Bangkok. Street food at its best (and reasonably hygienic too!) Bangkok is the capital and the most populous city of Thailand. It is known in Thai as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon or simply About this sound Krung Thep (help·info). The city occupies 1,568.7 square kilometres (605.7 sq mi) in the Chao Phraya River delta in Central Thailand, and has a population of over eight million, or 12.6 percent of the country's population. Over fourteen million people (22.2 percent) live within the surrounding Bangkok Metropolitan Region, making Bangkok an extreme primate city, dwarfing Thailand's other urban centres in terms of importance. Bangkok traces its roots to a small trading post during the Ayutthaya Kingdom in the 15th century, which eventually grew in size and became the site of two capital cities: Thonburi in 1768 and Rattanakosin in 1782. Bangkok was at the heart of Siam's (as Thailand used to be known) modernization during the later nineteenth century, as the country faced pressures from the West. The city was the centre stage of Thailand's political struggles throughout the twentieth century, as the country abolished absolute monarchy, adopted constitutional rule and underwent numerous coups and uprisings. The city grew rapidly during the 1960s through the 1980s and now exerts a significant impact among Thailand's politics, economy, education, media and modern society. The Asian investment boom in the 1980s and 1990s led many multinational corporations to locate their regional headquarters in Bangkok. The city is now a major regional force in finance and business. It is an international hub for transport and health care, and is emerging as a regional centre for the arts, fashion and entertainment. The city's vibrant street life and cultural landmarks, as well as its notorious red-light districts, have given it an exotic appeal. The historic Grand Palace and Buddhist temples including Wat Arun and Wat Pho stand in contrast with other tourist attractions such as the nightlife scenes of Khaosan Road and Patpong. Bangkok is among the world's top tourist destinations. It is named the most visited city in MasterCard's Global Destination Cities Index, and has been named "World's Best City" for four consecutive years by Travel + Leisure magazine. One of Bangkok's biggest draws is its food, from high cuisine to street stalls. Get your fill of gourmet Thai food at Nahm. It's been named one of the best restaurants in the world, and you'll see why when you taste the flavorful but subtle dishes. Soul Food Mahanakorn is another solid choice for authentic Thai food in an elegant setting. They also serve great drinks. If you're most interested in ambiance, Breeze offers an amazing view of the Bangkok skyline. The seafood they serve is very good too, but pricey. Blue Elephant also serves authentic Thai dishes in luxury, but what's more impressive is their cooking school. Blue Elephant's cooking school guides students all the way from the market to the table, so eating there is a unique experience. If fancy restaurants are not your thing -- you will love Bangkok because the city is also overflowing with delicious cheap authentic food. Krua Apsorn is a longtime local favorite. It's a casual restaurant where you can get traditional Thai dishes prepared to perfection, without paying a fortune. There are plenty of cafes like this one so ask the locals or your concierge for their favorites. If you'd like to take a break from Thai food, Roti Mataba is well known for serving great Indian food at low prices. Eating at food courts is also a standard for locals looking for good food on the cheap. The MBK Food Court is one of the best--it may not be fancy, but you'll find everything from Italian food to sushi. If all else fails, it's hard not to be tempted by the delicious smell and affordable prices of the many street food vendors! You'll always eat well in Bangkok.- published: 01 Dec 2013
