The Streets were an English hip hop and UK garage project from Birmingham, England, led by the vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Mike Skinner.
The project released five studio albums: Original Pirate Material (2002), A Grand Don't Come for Free (2004), The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living (2006), Everything Is Borrowed (2008), Computers and Blues (2011), an internet-only album Cyberspace and Reds (2011) and a string of successful singles in the mid-2000s, including "Has It Come to This?", "Fit But You Know It", "Dry Your Eyes", "When You Wasn't Famous" and "Prangin' Out".
In 2001, the Locked On label, which had success with The Artful Dodger featuring Craig David, released "Has It Come to This?" under the name The Streets. It was a breakthrough hit for The Streets, reaching number 18 on the UK charts in October 2001.
White Girl may refer to:
A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Films may be of recent date and, depending upon the festival's focus, can include international and domestic releases. Some festivals focus on a specific film-maker or genre (e.g., film noir) or subject matter (e.g., horror film festivals). A number of film festivals specialise in short films of a defined maximum length. Film festivals are typically annual events. Some film historians do not consider Film Festivals as official releases of film, like Jerry Beck. The best known film festivals are the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival, the latter being the largest film festival worldwide, based on attendance. The Venice Film Festival is the oldest major festival. The Melbourne International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world. A 2013 study found 3,000 active films festivals worldwide—active defined as having held an event in the previous 24 months.
Streets are the plural of street, a type of road.
Streets or The Streets may also refer to:
White Girl Bleed a Lot: The Return of Racial Violence to America and How the Media Ignore It is a 2012 non-fiction book written by Colin Flaherty, regarding race and crime, particularly the knockout game and violent flash mobs of black people, in the United States. It is published by WND Books.
Thomas Sowell praised the book, feeling that Flaherty had done better research than Sowell had for his own Intellectuals and Society on the issue of black-on-white crime, and felt that the book and its message were being ignored or silenced.John Derbyshire at VDARE described Flaherty as "an old-style just-the-facts reporter with no ideological axe to grind" and praised his work.
Alex Pareene in Salon opined that the figures presented by Flaherty were inflated and the reporting misleading, after checking the sources cited.Cathy Young in Newsday brought up the book when discussing the knockout game, and mentioned how she felt Flaherty, while in error in a particular case, brings forth a "narrative [that] raises a painful question" about the media's failure to report incidents accurately when perpetrators are black. That failure, she cautions, undermines the media's credibility and actually risks encouraging racist paranoia.

Last september, we were sent to Senegal in order to imagine a 2mn video that would show the passion of these kids for football and how it brings them so many things in so many levels, mostly joy in their everyday life. The video for Fever Ray's 'Keep The Streets Empty For Me', taken from the album Fever Ray, is directed by Jens Klevje and Fabian Svensson, a dynamic director duo in the field of artistic moving image. They are based in south of Sweden were they running the visual bureau Conjunction.se. http://feverray.com Fever Ray and the song Keep the Streets Empty struck us immediately with its fateful sound and images of abandoned suburbia begun to grow in front of our eyes. We wanted to continue the journey that started in the former videos and our ambition was to catch the feeling in a very direct and true way and create a video where dream and reality intertwine. “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms.” ― Henry David Thoreau

Examining themes of fashion and consumption, we will present durational performances and installation works in this former furniture store's windows. Questions regarding the relationship of art and commerce today are myriad, and while there are no simple answers, most observers agree that there are many troubling implications of the influences of speculation, branding and celebrity on the current climate. Giving away the aesthetic experience through such a temporary event is a return to earlier, more idealistic times, yet placing the work within a shopping district anchors it to the realistic present. We imagine this to be an exciting event which will attract art audiences, as well as provide an unusual experience to passers-by. Jordan Biren and Corrina Peipon present a tableau/performan...

«Di Shu: Ground Calligraphy in China» is a survey about contemporary calligraphic practices in Chinese public spaces, a photographic and video documentary project developed during summer 2011 in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenyang. The videos presented on this platform are moments, uncut real time sequences giving the opportunity to fully observe an inscription in the making: capturing at the scale of public space the different handwritten gestures and the duration of strokes. In China cosmology, the square or «di» represents the earth and the circle represents the sky; «shu» signifies book, writing by association. The expression «di shu» literaly means square book, but here it means earth calligraphy: practicing ephemeral calligraphy on the ground, using clear water as ink. Thousands of anony...

The word Yamaboko refers to the two types of floats used in the procession: Yama, of which there are 23, and hoko, of which there are 9. One of the main reasons the Gion Matsuri is so impressive is the enormity of the hoko, which can be up to 25 meters tall, weigh up to 12 tons, and are pulled on wheels as big as people. Both yama and hoko are elaborately decorated and represent unique themes. Another reason for the festival's impressiveness is its long and almost uninterrupted history. It dates back to 869 as a religious ceremony to appease the gods during the outbreak of an epidemic. Even today, the festival continues the practice of selecting a local boy to be a divine messenger. The child cannot set foot on the ground from the 13th until after he has been paraded through town on the 1...

An interview with two prostitutes and a transvestite...two daughters and a son. They answer questions why they started prostituting, their lives, their fathers and God.
I found this collection of “outtakes” in my archive. I shot these interviews on the streets of New York in the late 70s when I was doing a documentary on the coming of the information age. As I look at it, it shows me that in a way, nothing has changed, and in a way, so much has changed. Notice that most people had never been filmed before. With the coming of cell phone video, very few can say that today.

Behind the scenes while interviewing the public on the streets of Toronto
This photo essay, part of our collaboration with Magnum Photos, documents Alex Webb's exploration of Chicago and the Loop. Inspired in part by one of his early influences, Ray Metzker's "My Camera and I in the Loop," he explores the streets of the US's "Second City." Though unlike the street photographers of the so-called Chicago School (Callahan, Metzger, Sturr, Sterling), Alex Webb has chosen to photograph the city's multitudinous character in color. Having spent most of his 30 year long career shooting outside of the US, Alex Webb turns his lens to his home nation during this very important election year. Streetfilms has been documenting the ciclovia/open streets movement for over seven years, beginning with our landmark film in 2007 on Bogota's Ciclovia, currently our most popular film of all time. Not soon after that film's debut Mike Lydon of The Street Plans Collaborative decided to get one going in Miami in 2008 which led to his research for The Open Streets Project, a joint project with the Alliance for Biking & Walking. In 2008, there were new events in over a dozen cities including San Francisco, Portland and NYC. Since 2006, open streets events have increased 10 fold. Since Streetfilms has ample footage of nearly a dozen such events, we decided this was an opportune time to interview some of the most important people in the movement, including former City Transportation Commiss...
shaun went to jail. two months after i shot him in the back of a police car i bumped into him at the local liquor store where i was shooting an interview. he was sadly high and asked for money. The screwdriver kid from part 1 got a job working with his dad as a mechanic and occasionally goes back to fietas to visit old friends or at least that's what people told me. martin has two children now and holds down a job even though he continues to battle with his addiction. the drug problem in fietas is out of control and even thou i have made a lot of friends there, i have lost even more to drugs, jail and the STREETS OF FIETAS.

My new class giving a peak at my creative process! skl.sh/matty There is a woman who walks through the streets randomly singing opera. Wherever she goes she is singing, sometimes under her breath, sometimes loud enough for whole blocks to hear. Some people think she is deranged, some think she is inspiring. I was compelled to sit down with her and have a short conversation about Why. I only had an hour and a half with her, but she struck a cord enough that made me buy a ticket to go see my mom, heh. I decided that I would put this online and hope to inspire people to go embrace their mothers and children. She's also a very prime example of why not to judge people by their eccentricities. It's no secret that just about anywhere you go in the Netherlands is an incredible place to bicycle. And in Groningen, a northern city with a population of 190,000 and a bike mode share of 50 percent, the cycling is as comfortable as in any city on Earth. The sheer number of people riding at any one time will astound you, as will the absence of automobiles in the city center, where cars seem extinct. It is remarkable just how quiet the city is. People go about their business running errands by bike, going to work by bike, and even holding hands by bike. The story of how they got there is a mix of great transportation policy, location and chance. You'll learn quite a bit of history in the film, but essentially Groningen decided in the 1970s to enact policies to make it easier to walk and b...

So we took a little trip to London to meet with the charismatic title designer, who also happens to be a fascinating character. The fine art of hotel expressionism
And the sentiment with the kettlent condiments
Compose your mood using the soap hanging chute(?)
The minibar can be part of the art
In the early hours of a blurry hotel you need guests of (?)
My word is word if we earn success in hotel expressionism
stay away from (?) hotels so when wrecked there's no victim
I've been ejected from hotels that then when i'm checking in will swear to be with them (swearin')
Man, i'm not some crank vandal swinging the TV about at random
Attacks to the lampstand for a (?) is the art of action prove (?)
Tediously mischief from (?) is why we hide from enemy pages
Throwing the TV out the window mate is nothing clear of weak cliches
It's vandalism an expressionists (?) we keen leaders associate to
I'm talking E-convertibles (talking?)
The fine art of hotel expressionism
And the sentiment with the kettlent condiments
Compose your mood using the soap hanging chute(?)
The minibar can be part of the art
From the (?) of the minibar brandy and lambs see(?)
You have a brandy (?) sweet boozy steam moves freely and is in no manner mindless fun
Express yourself in anyway say anything you may and anyway that man (?)
That's fuckin (?) fuckin cunt the fuckin damage is a minor... fucker
But louts harassin is fuckin drole spellin through the death of rock and roll
Rap and roll are separate to some acid trip cus rock and roll is fuckin old
The group of girls your so in on have to be on there oh there and piss
But you have a problem with the man there with he's a dealer but there's a rift(?)
You need to get infront jump up on his own shit take his gear he disappears
Leave him there his hand in a bucket of water gaffer taped to a chair in a lift
The fine art of hotel expressionism
And the sentiment with the kettlent condiments
Compose your mood using the soap hanging chute(?)
The minibar can be part of the art
I'll tell you
Expressionism is his own form of art
Because with normal art someone usually the artist they pour out their heart
But it's worth is decided by committin and has to obey the law and sharks
I tell expressionists walk out the lift mind checkin' out pay for their art
Real art should be nothing but love shouldn't be about the money or fashion
I make these crap rap rhythms to pay the hotel bills that fund my packet(?)
The fine art of hotel expressionism
And the sentiment with the kettlent condiments
Compose your mood using the soap hanging chute(?)
The minibar can be part of the art
It's tedious the mischief from (?) is why we hide from enemy pages
Throwing the TV out the window mate is nothing clear of weak cliche
It's vandalism an expressionismists keenly disassociate to
I'm talking E-convertibles, structural damage, human injury... well mayhem basically
