Kirsten O'Brien presents this fun-filled episode of UK360. Featuring WWF's Earth Hour, Apps for Good, Britain's First Solar-powered town and a sneak preview of Community Channel's latest offering! WWF Earth Hour 2012 'Earth Hour', which highlights the issue of global warming, took place this year on 31st March. To kick off the launch in style the WWF created a human-powered dance floor with help from dance act Flawless, who performed a twilight routine as landmarks such as the National Theatre, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament were plunged into darkness. Apps For Good Apps For Good is an award-winning scheme where young people learn to create imaginative mobile apps. It currently runs in 40 schools around the UK, as students work together to find out the issues they want to tackle and how best to solve them with mobile and web applications. UK360 took a look at this innovative scheme, finding out how those involved have an opportunity to learn, practice and develop a completely new set of skills. Britain's First Solar Powered Town The first episode of UK360 saw a report on the work of residents in Wadebridge,Cornwall, who aim to generate at least a third of their electricity needs from solar and wind power by 2015. They're just at the start of their journey, but this follow up feature catches up with the determined residents as they try and recruit the whole town to take part. New Heights The New Heights Community Project based in Kingstanding, Birmingham aims to play a key part in empowering the socially deprived community. This includes providing support for the elderly and young families through means of safety, education schemes and training. UK360 found out more about this inspiring project.
