Crime in Stereo is a Long Island-based hardcore punk band. Active from 2002 to 2011, the group released four full-length albums and a compilation, recording for the labels Blackout!, Nitro, and Bridge Nine before disbanding. In 2012, the group reunited, though they have not released new music since then.

History

Crime in Stereo formed in 2001 and recorded a homemade demo tape that same year. The band released their debut, a split with New York's Kill Your Idols, in 2003 on Blackout! Records. In early 2004, the band released their debut full-length in conjunction with Brightside Records, Explosives and the Will to Use Them and was well received by several punk music webzines. In early 2005 the band signed with Nitro Records, owned by Dexter Holland of The Offspring. Although a four-song EP titled The Contract was released in July 2005 to finish up the band's contract with Blackout! Records / Brightside, the band released the Fuel. Transit. Sleep EP that same year with Nitro Records containing two songs from the following album, The Troubled Stateside, which was released April 18, 2006 on Nitro Records.

In Stereo

In Stereo is the debut studio album by hip hop group Bomfunk MC's, released in 1999 through Sony Music Finland/Epidrome. The album reached No. 1 on that year's Finnish albums chart and remained on that chart for 69 weeks. "Freestyler" was released as a single and became a chart-topping hit worldwide during the first half of 2000, reaching No. 1 in eleven countries.

In the group's native Finland, the album resulted in Emma awards for best new band, best debut album, best song ("Freestyler") and best producer (JS16).In Stereo was certified Double Platinum in 1999, with 134,610 copies sold; it is currently the 25th best-selling album of all time in Finland.

Stereophonic sound

Stereophonic sound or, more commonly, stereo, is a method of sound reproduction that creates an illusion of multi-directional audible perspective. This is usually achieved by using two or more independent audio channels through a configuration of two or more loudspeakers (or stereo headphones) in such a way as to create the impression of sound heard from various directions, as in natural hearing. Thus the term "stereophonic" applies to so-called "quadraphonic" and "surround-sound" systems as well as the more common two-channel, two-speaker systems. It is often contrasted with monophonic, or "mono" sound, where audio is heard as coming from one position, often centered in the sound field (analogous to a visual field). In the 2000s, stereo sound is common in entertainment systems such as broadcast radio and TV, recorded music and the cinema.

The word stereophonic derives from the Greek "στερεός" (stereos), "firm, solid" + "φωνή" (phōnē), "sound, tone, voice" and it was coined in 1927 by Western Electric, by analogy with the word "stereoscopic".

Crime

In ordinary language, the term crime denotes an unlawful act punishable by a state. The term "crime" does not, in modern criminal law, have any simple and universally accepted definition, though statutory definitions have been provided for certain purposes. The most popular view is that crime is a category created by law; in other words, something is a crime if declared as such by the relevant and applicable law. One proposed definition is that a crime or offence (or criminal offence) is an act harmful not only to some individual or individuals but also to a community, society or the state ("a public wrong"). Such acts are forbidden and punishable by law.

The notion that acts such as murder, rape and theft are to be prohibited exists worldwide. What precisely is a criminal offence is defined by criminal law of each country. While many have a catalogue of crimes called the criminal code, in some common law countries no such comprehensive statute exists.

The state (government) has the power to severely restrict one's liberty for committing a crime. In modern societies, there are procedures to which investigations and trials must adhere. If found guilty, an offender may be sentenced to a form of reparation such as a community sentence, or, depending on the nature of their offence, to undergo imprisonment, life imprisonment or, in some jurisdictions, execution.

Is Dead is the third album by Crime in Stereo, released October 23, 2007. It is their first album on Bridge Nine Records.
