Cheerful is the uttering or making of sounds encouraging, stimulating or exciting to action, indicating approval or acclaiming or welcoming persons, announcements of events and the like.
The word cheer meant originally face, countenance, expression, and came through Old French into Middle English in the 13th century from Low Latin cara, head; this is generally referred to the Greek καρα;. Cara is used by the 6th-century poet Flavius Cresconius Corippus, Postquam venere verendam Caesilris ante caram (In Laud em Justini Minoris). Cheer was at first qualified with epithets, both of joy and gladness and of sorrow; compare She thanked Dyomede for ale ... his gode chere (Chaucer, Troylus) with If they sing ... tis with so dull a cheere (Shakespeare, Sonnets, xcvii.). An early transference in meaning was to hospitality or entertainment, and hence to food and drink, good cheer. The sense of a shout of encouragement or applause is a late use. Defoe (Captain Singleton) speaks of it as a sailor's word, and the meaning does not appear in Johnson.
Hooray for Earth was a New York City-based rock band that originated from the home-recordings of singer and multi-instrumentalist Noel Heroux. The group first emerged publicly as Hooray for Earth in late 2005 in Boston, Massachusetts.
The band played shows and self-released early demo recordings locally in Boston and the surrounding area until Heroux moved to New York City in August 2007. On February 26, 2008, Dopamine Records released the six-track Cellphone EP.
In 2009, a second EP, Momo, was released by eMusic Selects.Dovecote Records later re-issued Momo (June 1, 2010) including an additional track, new artwork and CD/Vinyl formats.
In October 2010, Hooray for Earth's one-off single "A Place We Like" was released as a free download. The song, recorded at RAD Studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn, is a collaborative production between Hooray for Earth and Brooklyn musician Twin Shadow.
In July and August 2010, Heroux spent six weeks writing and recording material for Hooray for Earth's first full-length LP, True Loves. Heroux performed, engineered and produced the album, with Joseph Burstein, Christopher Principe and Gary Benacquista entering the studio periodically with instrumental contributions. Several of the album's songs feature vocal contributions by New York City noise-pop group and frequent collaborators Zambri. The album was mixed by Chris Coady. True Loves was released by Dovecote Records on June 7, 2011.
Boney M. is a vocal group created by German record producer Frank Farian. Originally based in Germany, the four original members of the group's official line-up were Jamaican-born singers Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett, Maizie Williams from Montserrat and Bobby Farrell from Aruba. The group was formed in 1976 and achieved popularity during the disco era of the late 1970s. Since the 1980s, various line-ups of the band have performed with different personnel.
German singer-songwriter Frank Farian (real name Franz Reuther) recorded the dance track "Baby Do You Wanna Bump" in December 1974. Farian sang the repeated line "Do you do you wanna bump?" in a deep voice (entirely studio created) as well as performing the high falsetto chorus. When the record was released as a single, it was credited to "Boney M.", a pseudonym Farian had created for himself after watching the Australian detective show Boney.
After a slow start, the song became a hit in the Netherlands and Belgium. It was then that Farian decided to hire performers to 'front' the group for TV performances. The Katja Wolfe booking agency found model-turned-singer Maizie Williams (originally from Montserrat) and her Jamaican singer friend Sheyla Bonnick for him, along with a dancer known only as "Mike" for the first gigs. Also during 1975, a girl named Nathalie joined but was soon replaced by Jamaica-born Claudja Barry. Then Bonnick and Mike left, and Maizie Williams brought in Bobby Farrell, a male exotic dancer from Aruba. Singer Marcia Barrett (also from Jamaica) joined the group, which then went through another change in line-up when Claudja Barry left in February 1976 to pursue a solo career as a disco singer. Finally Liz Mitchell, former member of the Les Humphries Singers, stepped in. The line-up was finalised with Liz Mitchell, Maizie Williams, Marcia Barrett, and Bobby Farrell.
Hip hip hooray (also hippity hip hooray; Hooray may also be spelled and pronounced hoorah, hurrah, hurray etc.) is a cheering called out to express praise or approbation toward someone or something, in the English speaking world and elsewhere.
By a sole speaker, it is a form of interjection. In a group, it takes the form of call and response: the cheer is initiated by one person exclaiming "Three cheers for...[someone or something]" (or, more archaically, "Three times three"), then calling out "hip hip" (archaically, "hip hip hip") three times, each time being responded by "hooray".
The call was recorded in England in the beginning of the 19th century in connection with making a toast. Eighteenth century dictionaries list "Hip" as an attention-getting interjection, and in an example from 1790 it is repeated."Hip-hip" was added as a preparatory call before making a toast or cheer in the early 19th century, probably after 1806. By 1813, it had reached its modern form, hip-hip-hurrah.

In the small room, Hooray, an interactive installation, is installed on the wall. There is one bright light source in the middle of the room to make participants’ shadows for interacting with Hooray. In Hooray, 208 human figures in double rows are initially standing up. When participants approach Hooray, the figures individually bow. To accomplish this effect, when the participants’ shadows block light sensors, motors are activated that cause the figures to bow. Hooray represents a hierarchical (power) relationship in society. When participants get closer to Hooray, their shadows seem like overwhelming small-scaled human figures. Small-scaled human figures bow showing their obedience to the participants. I think our society’s so called democracy is not really a democracy. An indiv...
Here's a music video we co-produced with Young Replicant. Hope you like it! This was shot on our AF-100s with Zeiss Super Speeds provided by Evidence productions and a Duclos PL mounted Tokina 11-16mm Zoom. If anybody had doubts about getting cinematic looking images out of the AF-100 I hope they are put to rest now. I really think this video came out looking amazing. Everything was shot at 24p (with lots of overcranking) and the widescreen was achieved by shooting at 1080p and cropping down to a widescreen 720p. A heck of a lot cheaper and easier than messing around with anamorphic lenses! As an alternative to the RED, I think this camera really stands up. It even has some features that may even make it better for some uses. For example, the built in NDs can save you a ton of time when ...
www.shaperideshoot.com Real fall day riding in spring...Strange but very funny!
I put a tack on everything,
It lets me know just where i've been,
Call out these chains and get me home,
I'm coming back but will you show,
Hooray Hooray its not over,
we have got all day to recover,
and i'm on a roll so don't you be late,
Too late too late run for cover,
there is not enough left to offer,
theres more to this than acting my age.
I put a price on what you say,
it lets me know that i'm ok,
but i'm a garbage man tonight,
and i just don't believe my eyes,
Hooray Hooray its not over,
we have got all day to recover,
and i'm on a roll so don't you be late,
Too late too late run for cover,
and there is not enough left to offer,
and theres more to this than acting my age.
Oh you'll never believe what i have seen whilst i was
lost,
i found this place next to the ocean,
a perfect fit for us,
you're in so deep you cannot move,
so let me in,
Hooray Hooray its not over,
we have got all day to recover,
and i'm on a roll so don't you be late.
Hooray Hooray its not over,
we have got all day to recover,
and i'm on a roll so don't you be late,
