Old Strathcona is an historic district located in south-central Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Once the commercial core of the separate city of Strathcona, the area is now home to many of Edmonton's arts and entertainment facilities, as well as a local shopping hub for local residents and students at the nearby University of Alberta. Many of the area's businesses are owner-operated but, chains have also made inroads in the neighbourhood. A good proportion of Edmonton's theatres and live-performance venues are also located in the area. The district centres on Whyte (82) Avenue and has shops, restaurants, bars and buskers.
In 2007 Old Strathcona was named Alberta's second Provincial Historic Area. The district comprises an area of five city blocks from 85 Avenue south to 80 Avenue and from 102 Street west to 106 street.
The Old Strathcona and Area Business Revitalization Zone (BRZ) is a roughly cross-shaped business revitalization zone, extending along Whyte Avenue from just west of 109 Street in the west, to just east of 99 Street in the east, and along Gateway Boulevard from 86 Avenue in the north to University Avenue in the south.
Edmonton i/ˈɛdməntən/ is the capital of the Canadian province of Alberta. Edmonton is on the North Saskatchewan River and is the centre of the Edmonton Capital Region, which is surrounded by Alberta's central region.
The city had a population of 877,926 in the 2014 census, making it Alberta's second-largest city and Canada's fifth-largest municipality. This population represents 66 percent of the total 2014 population of 1,328,300 within the Edmonton census metropolitan area (CMA), Canada's fifth-largest CMA by population. Edmonton is the northernmost North American city with a metropolitan population over one million. A resident of Edmonton is known as an Edmontonian.
Edmonton's historic growth has been facilitated through the absorption of five adjacent urban municipalities (Strathcona, North Edmonton, West Edmonton, Beverly and Jasper Place) and a series of annexations ending in 1982. Edmonton serves as the northern anchor of the Calgary–Edmonton Corridor. Known as the "Gateway to the North", the city is a staging point for large-scale oil sands projects occurring in northern Alberta and large-scale diamond mining operations in the Northwest Territories.

The Edmonton Oilers are a professional ice hockey team based in Edmonton, Alberta. They are members of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL).
The Oilers were founded on November 1, 1971, with the team playing its first season in 1972, as one of twelve founding franchises of the major professional World Hockey Association (WHA). They were originally intended to be one of two WHA teams in Alberta (the other one being the Calgary Broncos). However, when the Broncos relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, before the WHA's first season began, the Oilers were renamed the Alberta Oilers. They returned to using the Edmonton Oilers name for the following year, and have been called that ever since. The Oilers subsequently joined the NHL in 1979 as one of four franchises introduced through the NHL merger with the WHA.
After joining the NHL, the Oilers went on to win the Stanley Cup on five occasions: 1983–84, 1984–85, 1986–87, 1987–88 and 1989–90. This remains the most championships won by any team since the NHL-WHA merger and also the most won by any team that joined the league in or after 1967. Among all NHL teams, only the Montreal Canadiens have won more Cups since the League's 1967 expansion. For their success in the 1980s, the Oilers team of this era has been honoured with dynasty status by the Hockey Hall of Fame.

The original north campus consists of 150 buildings covering 50 city blocks on the south rim of the North Saskatchewan River valley, directly across from downtown Edmonton. The University of Alberta is a major economic driver in Alberta. The university’s impact on the Alberta economy is an estimated $12.3 billion annually, or five per cent of the province’s gross domestic product. With more than 15,000 employees, the university is Alberta's fourth-largest employer.

EDMONTON - Two men went to hospital with stab wounds late Friday night as revelry following an Edmonton Oilers playoff victory turned violent. The men, one of whom was in his 20s, were stabbed around 11:30 p.m. at a bar near 105th Street and 82nd Avenue. The victims were taken to University of Alberta Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known. The size of the crowd prevented ambulances from getting to the bar. "We just had a double-stabbing at one of the lounges down there and couldn't get ambulances in," said Edmonton Police Service Insp. Dan Jones. Jones said police officers had to transport the stabbing victims in police cars to the nearby Old Strathcona police station where ambulances were waiting. Jones said bottles were thrown and firecrackers were going off. Police...

On the ground
You blew me away
By turning around
With nothing to say
Blinded by fear
You've stolen my pride
I buried the tears
I'm ready to fight
And I'm crowded by the light
Turn away, it isn't worth the fight
It isn't you it isn't me
tell me what the hell am I supposed to be
I'm running in place
with nowhere to be
You're turning away and running from me
Blinded by years
You've broken my pride
Buried the fear
I'm ready to hide
And I'm crowded by the light
Turn away, it isn't worth the fight
It isn't you, it isn't me
Tell me what the hell am I supposed to be
It isn't how, it isn't why
Tell me where the hell am I to go tonight
It isn't you, it isn't me
Tell me where the hell am I supposed to be
It isn't how, it isn't why
Tell me where the hell am I to go tonight
It isn't you, it isn't me
Tell me what the hell am I supposed to be
It isn't how, it isn't why
Tell me where the hell am I to go tonight
Tell me how the hell am I to make it right
