It is situated at the confluence of the Bow River and the Elbow River in the south of the province, in an area of foothills and prairie, about 80 km (50 mi) east of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. This video shows my October 15th, 2017 bike ride around the roads of Downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The video begins at Fort Calgary (9th Ave SE & 7th St SE E) and ends the Peace Bridge (1st Ave SW & 7th St SW).
In this video I am riding a Shwinn Network 2.0 hybrid style bike which I rented from HI Calgary. I filmed this using a Contour Roam 2 camera mounted to the head tube of the bike. I recorded the audio with a Panasonic voice recorder and earpiece microphone. My speed and heart rate were tracked using a Garmin handheld GPS, and I used VIRB Edit to overlay the gauges.

Flash floods have hit the Canadian oil capital Calgary, where many of the city's roads have been engulfed by water.
Authorities evacuated the whole downtown area on June 21. Around 100,000 people were told to leave their homes.
No deaths or injuries were reported - which Calgary's Mayor Naheed Nenshi described as "nothing short of a miracle".
A large area south of the city declared a state of emergency. Police in the town of High River, around 60 kilometres away, said four people were missing there.
More than ten centimetres of rain has fallen in some parts of southern Alberta in just two days.

Downtown Calgary is a region of central Calgary, Alberta. It is not a single neighbourhood per se, but is actually a larger community containing three neighbourhoods and a number of districts.
Generally speaking, downtown Calgary is bordered by 14th Street W. on the west, 3rd Avenue S. and Eau Claire on the north, the Elbow River on the east and the CPR mainline tracks on the south. Within downtown are three city neighbourhoods. They are, the Downtown West End, the Downtown Commercial Core, and the Downtown East Village.[3] The neighbourhoods of Eau Claire to the immediate north, Chinatown to the northeast and the Beltline to the south are usually considered to be part of downtown, but strictly speaking they are not.
The population of Calgary's downtown is still low relative to certain other cities, despite major rejuvenation initiatives and the development of major condominium and apartment projects. The combined population of the three downtown neighbourhoods was 12,455 in 2009; however, this figure does not include the 1,700 that live in Eau Claire, the 1,300 in Chinatown, and the 18,000 that live in the Beltline.[4] The Downtown West End and the Downtown East Village are generally considered to be the downtown's residential neighbourhoods.
Calgary Transit's C-Train light rail system runs down 7th Avenue S. through the middle of downtown, and the ride is free on this section.

Downtown
Downtown is a term primarily used in North America by English speakers to refer to a city's core (or center) or central business district (CBD), often in a geographical, commercial, or communal sense. The term is not generally used in British English, whose speakers instead use the term city centre.
The term is thought to have been coined in New York City, where it was in use by the 1830s to refer to the original town at the southern tip of the island of Manhattan. As the town of New York grew into a city, the only direction it could grow on the island was toward the north, proceeding upriver from the original settlement (the "up" and "down" terminology in turn came from the customary map design in which up was north and down was south). Thus, anything north of the original town became known as "uptown" (Upper Manhattan), while the original town (which was also New York's only major center of business at the time) became known as "downtown" (Lower Manhattan).
During the late 19th century, the term was gradually adopted by cities across the United States and Canada to refer to the historical core of the city (which was most often the same as the commercial heart of the city). Notably, it was not included in dictionaries as late as the 1880s. But by the early 1900s, downtown was clearly established as the proper term in American English for a city's central business district.

Downtown Calgary at night presents a beautiful side of the city that is most often overlooked. I started my walk at the Mount Pleasant Tennis Club. I then cross the Centre Street Bridge overlooking downtown and most notably the Calgary Tower and the Bow building. From there I headed down the hill to Memorial Drive to see the crosses set up for Remembrance Day. After that I crossed a foot bridge into Prince's Island Park. The park was nearly empty, with some people walking around and a couple others biking through. From there I crossed another footbridge to the other side and found myself near the Peace Bridge, where I crossed and headed back to my vehicle. Downtown Calgary - City Cycling Tour
This video shows my October 15th, 2017 bike ride around the roads of Downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The video begins at Fort Calgary (9th Ave SE & 7th St SE E) and ends the Peace Bridge (1st Ave SW & 7th St SW). In this video I am riding a Shwinn Network 2.0 hybrid style bike which I rented from HI Calgary. I filmed this using a Contour Roam 2 camera mounted to the head tube of the bike. I recorded the audio with a Panasonic voice recorder and earpiece microphone. My speed and heart rate were tracked using a Garmin handheld GPS, and I used VIRB Edit to overlay the gauges. It is not a single neighbourhood per se, but is actually a larger community containing three neighbourhoods and a number of districts. Downtown Calgary at Night (4K) | Journey Alberta
Downtown Calgary at night presents a beautiful side of the city that is most often overlooked. I started my walk at the Mount Pleasant Tennis Club. I then cross the Centre Street Bridge overlooking downtown and most notably the Calgary Tower and the Bow building. From there I headed down the hill to Memorial Drive to see the crosses set up for Remembrance Day. After that I crossed a foot bridge into Prince's Island Park. The park was nearly empty, with some people walking around and a couple others biking through. From there I crossed another footbridge to the other side and found myself near the Peace Bridge, where I crossed and headed back to my vehicle. Downtown Calgary at night presents a beautiful side of the city that is most often overlooked. I started my walk at the Mount Pleasant Tennis Club. I then cross the Centre Street Bridge overlooking downtown and most notably the Calgary Tower and the Bow building. From there I headed down the hill to Memorial Drive to see the crosses set up for Remembrance Day. After that I crossed a foot bridge into Prince's Island Park. The park was nearly empty, with some people walking around and a couple others biking through. From there I crossed another footbridge to the other side and found myself near the Peace Bridge, where I crossed and headed back to my vehicle.

Downtown Calgary - City Cycling Tour
This video shows my October 15th, 2017 bike ride around the roads of Downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The video begins at Fort Calgary (9th Ave SE & 7th St SE E) and ends the Peace Bridge (1st Ave SW & 7th St SW). In this video I am riding a Shwinn Network 2.0 hybrid style bike which I rented from HI Calgary. I filmed this using a Contour Roam 2 camera mounted to the head tube of the bike. I recorded the audio with a Panasonic voice recorder and earpiece microphone. My speed and heart rate were tracked using a Garmin handheld GPS, and I used VIRB Edit to overlay the gauges. Adventures in Calgary
Calgary is a little bit cowboy, a little bit trendy and a whole lot of fun. I was amazed that this Alberta capital, the largest in this Canadian province, had so much personality! There's amazing local food, charming bike paths along the river, a really happening downtown nightlife scene and some fantastic hotels (Hotel Arts, looking at you). I really was amazed by the little neighborhoods and the innovative new hotspots like a food container bar, an incredible cocktail bar, the delicious Simmons Building and so much more. I even get totally outfitted as a cowgirl, just like any Calgary girl should. Big thanks to Tamara from Globe Guide to being my awesome local tour guide!

I decided to visit my friends from Holland who were exploring the Canadian Rockies with their RV, before chasing them down in Banff I treated myself on the most famous hot dog in Canada at Tubby Dog and tried to break the glass floor at the Calgary Tower.

It was such a memorable experience meeting my Dutch friends on the other side of the world so we decided to do it up proper with a family BBQ and a few local brewski's, namely the Powder Hound by The Grizzly Paw which is a local brewery in Canmore, Alberta.
On our first adventure we left in the early morning to take the Banff Gondola to Sulphur Mountain, one of the most mesmerizing views of Banff. Make sure to fill up prior on a classic Canadian breakfast at Tim Hortons, the Canadian way.
The next adventure was a private helicopter ride at Rockies Heli Canada who took us from Kananaskis through the Rocky Mountains. It was a gorgeous clear day which resulted in excellent video footage. We even saw the same river where they shot the movie: The Revenant.
What also amazed us were the buck loads of wildlife passing by the RV throughout our stay at Banff's tunnel mountain campgrounds.
In next week's article I will give you all the details on our adventure at Lake Louise were I completed an 11 hour, 20 kilometer hike, thus best is to relax and relieve your sore muscles at Banff Upper Hot Springs after that trip.
In conclusion we were very fortunate that we had excellent weather with blue skies the entire trip. I highly recommend visiting Calgary, Banff & Lake Louise in the first week of June for the best experience.

I decided to visit my friends from Holland who were exploring the Canadian Rockies with their RV, before chasing them down in Banff I treated myself on the most famous hot dog in Canada at Tubby Dog and tried to break the glass floor at the Calgary Tower.

It was such a memorable experience meeting my Dutch friends on the other side of the world so we decided to do it up proper with a family BBQ and a few local brewski's, namely the Powder Hound by The Grizzly Paw which is a local brewery in Canmore, Alberta.
On our first adventure we left in the early morning to take the Banff Gondola to Sulphur Mountain, one of the most mesmerizing views of Banff. Make sure to fill up prior on a classic Canadian breakfast at Tim Hortons, the Canadian way.
The next adventure was a private helicopter ride at Rockies Heli Canada who took us from Kananaskis through the Rocky Mountains. It was a gorgeous clear day which resulted in excellent video footage. We even saw the same river where they shot the movie: The Revenant.
What also amazed us were the buck loads of wildlife passing by the RV throughout our stay at Banff's tunnel mountain campgrounds.
In next week's article I will give you all the details on our adventure at Lake Louise were I completed an 11 hour, 20 kilometer hike, thus best is to relax and relieve your sore muscles at Banff Upper Hot Springs after that trip.
In conclusion we were very fortunate that we had excellent weather with blue skies the entire trip. I highly recommend visiting Calgary, Banff & Lake Louise in the first week of June for the best experience.

This video shows my October 15th, 2017 bike ride around the roads of Downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The video begins at Fort Calgary (9th Ave SE & 7th St SE E) and ends the Peace Bridge (1st Ave SW & 7th St SW).
In this video I am riding a Shwinn Network 2.0 hybrid style bike which I rented from HI Calgary. I filmed this using a Contour Roam 2 camera mounted to the head tube of the bike. I recorded the audio with a Panasonic voice recorder and earpiece microphone. My speed and heart rate were tracked using a Garmin handheld GPS, and I used VIRB Edit to overlay the gauges.

01. Calgary Zoo
A zoo located in Bridgeland. A large portion of the zoo is located on St. George's Island in the Bow River. Second largest zoo in Canada. Home to almost 800 animals, excluding individual fish and insects, and 130 different species. The 92-acre zoo is organized by into six distinct zones: Destination Africa, Canadian Wilds, Penguin Plunge, Dorothy Harvie Botanical Gardens and ENMAX Conservatory, Eurasia, and Prehistoric Park.
02. Heritage Park Historical Village
A historical park. Has two operating seasons. The Historical Village is open from May long weekend to October. Gasoline Alley Museum is open year-round. Located on 127 acres (51 ha) of parkland on the banks of the Glenmore Reservoir. One of the city's most visited tourist attractions.
03. Calgary Stampede
An annual rodeo, exhibition and festival held every July. A ten-day event, which bills itself as "The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth". Features one of the world's largest rodeos, a parade, midway, stage shows, concerts, agricultural competitions, chuck wagon racing and First Nations exhibitions.
04. Calaway Park
Western Canada's largest outdoor family amusement park. Features a variety of rides including a large log flume, the rides "Chaos" and "Storm", the park's two biggest attractions: "The Vortex", its corkscrew roller coaster, and the "Dream Machine", a 56-passenger swing ride.
05. The Military Museums
A reorganization of the former Museum of the Regiments. The new museum comprises the former Museum of the Regiments as well as the relocated Naval Museum of Alberta and an Air Force Wing consisting of artifacts currently being acquired.
06. Devonian Gardens
A large indoor park and botanical garden. Completely enclosed with glass and covers 2.5 acres (10,000 m2). Include a living wall, koi ponds, fountains, a children's play area, and over 550 trees, as well as meeting/function space for special events.
07. Calgary Tower
A 191-metre (627 ft) free standing observation tower. The tower was built at a cost of $3,500,000 and weighs approximately 10,900 tones, of which 60% is below ground. Opened to the public on June 30, 1968 as Husky Tower. Renamed the Calgary Tower in 1971.
08. Fort Calgary
A fort established in 1875 as Fort Brisebois by the North-West Mounted Police. Located at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers. The site was purchased by the City of Calgary in 1974 and reopened in 1978 as an historic site and museum.
09. Millennium Park
A skate park. Consists of a street course with ledges, flat bars, stairs and transitions, an intermediate course with rails down stairs and banks, and an advanced course with cloverleaf bowl, street course and a large full pipe.
10. Fish Creek Provincial Park
A provincial park. The largest urban park in Canada and one of the largest urban parks in North America, stretching 19 km (12 mi) from east to west. A variety of paved and unpaved walking, hiking and bicycle trails.

► My Daily Vlogs are filmed using a Sony A7sii. The camera can shoot in 4k and slow motion so whenever I need variety, the camera not only provides me with high quality, but these options also add something to the rig. I attach a Joby tripod to the underside of the camera to give me some leverage whilst vlogging.

FAQ - What Camera Do I Use?
► My Daily Vlogs are filmed using a Sony A7sii. The camera can shoot in 4k and slow motion so whenever I need variety, the camera not only provides me with high quality, but these options also add something to the rig. I attach a Joby tripod to the underside of the camera to give me some leverage whilst vlogging.
►I sometimes shoot on a Canon 5Dmk3, a Sony RX100mkiv, or a Go Pro Hero 4/ Go Pro session.
► I live in a town called Walton on Thames, in Surrey, UK.

Calgary is a little bit cowboy, a little bit trendy and a whole lot of fun. I was amazed that this Alberta capital, the largest in this Canadian province, had so much personality! There's amazing local food, charming bike paths along the river, a really happening downtown nightlife scene and some fantastic hotels (Hotel Arts, looking at you). I really was amazed by the little neighborhoods and the innovative new hotspots like a food container bar, an incredible cocktail bar, the delicious Simmons Building and so much more. I even get totally outfitted as a cowgirl, just like any Calgary girl should.

Downtown Calgary - City Cycling Tour
This video shows my October 15th, 2017 bike ride around the roads of Downtown Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The video begins at Fort Calgary (9th Ave SE & 7th St SE E) and ends the Peace Bridge (1st Ave SW & 7th St SW). In this video I am riding a Shwinn Network 2.0 hybrid style bike which I rented from HI Calgary. I filmed this using a Contour Roam 2 camera mounted to the head tube of the bike. I recorded the audio with a Panasonic voice recorder and earpiece microphone. My speed and heart rate were tracked using a Garmin handheld GPS, and I used VIRB Edit to overlay the gauges. From that first enterprise, other stores and some hotels quickly appeared along the waterfront to the west. Gastown became formally laid out as a registered townsite dubbed Granville, B.I.
