The Midnight

The Midnight is the name of the third EP released by electronica duo Lemon Jelly, according to the insert of Lemonjelly.ky, on July 17, 2000. It was limited to 1,000 10" copies, the first 350 of which featured hand screen-printed sleeves. The tracks from the EP were later incorporated, for more accessible listening, into the critically acclaimed Lemonjelly.ky album. The cover had silver foil stamped on the inner sleeve and die-cut holes in the outer sleeve so when the record was pulled out of its sleeve, the stars twinkled in the night sky.

History

From 1998 to 2000, Franglen and Deakin released three limited-circulation EPs, The Bath (1998), The Yellow (1999), and The Midnight (2000), on their very own label, Impotent Fury. The EPs were a critical success, and led to the duo being signed to XL Recordings.

Hot Fuss

Hot Fuss is the debut studio album by American rock band The Killers. It was released on June 7, 2004 in the United Kingdom and on June 15, 2004 in the United States. The album is mostly influenced by new wave music and post-punk. Hot Fuss produced several commercially and critically successful singles: "Mr. Brightside", "Somebody Told Me", "All These Things That I've Done" and "Smile Like You Mean It".

The album reached number seven on the Billboard 200 chart and number one on the UK Albums Chart. It is estimated to have sold more than seven million copies worldwide, including more than three million in the United States and more than two million in the UK, where it has been certified seven-times platinum. It has also been certified platinum or multi-platinum in Australia, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand.

The album and its first three singles went on to garner five Grammy Award nominations. Rolling Stone ranked Hot Fuss the 43rd of its "100 Best Albums of the Decade", and it is one of the five most recent recordings listed among the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. Gigwise readers voted it the number-one "Best Debut Album of All Time" in 2013 and Rolling Stone ranked it the 33rd of its list of "The 100 Greatest Debut Albums of All Time".

Midnight

Midnight is the transition time period from one day to the next: the moment when the date changes. In ancient Roman timekeeping, midnight was halfway between sunset and sunrise, varying according to the seasons.

Solar midnight is the time opposite of solar noon, when the sun is closest to nadir and the night is equidistant from dusk and dawn. Due to the advent of time zones, which make time identical across a range of meridians, and daylight saving time, it rarely coincides with midnight on a clock. Solar midnight is dependent on longitude and time of the year rather than on a time zone.

In the northern hemisphere, "midnight" had an ancient geographic association with "north" (as did "noon" with "south" – see noon). Modern Polish preserves this association with its word for "midnight" ("północ – literally "half-night"), which also means "north".

Start and end of day

Midnight marks the beginning and ending of each day in civil time throughout the world. It is the dividing point between one day and another. With 12-hour time notation, authorities recommend avoiding confusion between noon and midnight by using "midnight", "12 midnight", "12 mi", or "12:00 midnight."

The Midnight Show

The Midnight Show is a Los Angeles-based sketch comedy group which performs monthly at The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. Founded in 2008, the show owes its notoriety not only to production of several viral and mature-themed internet videos on Funny or Die and YouTube (including "Twilight ... with Cheeseburgers," "Drive Recklessly," "Car Ad with Andy Richter," "Immortal Dog" and "Slider," starring Dax Shepard), but also to the fact that the show has functioned as a feeder of talent to the cast and writing staff of Saturday Night Live. The show contains both live and pre-filmed sketch material, guided by a celebrity host. Past hosts have included Drew Carey, Andy Richter, Dax Shepard, Fred Willard, Jerry O'Connell, Trevor Moore, Jerry Minor, Jordan Peele, Michaela Watkins, Matt Walsh, Paul F. Tompkins, Steve Agee, James Van Der Beek and John Ennis.

In 2010, The Midnight Show was selected as a finalist in the New York Friars' Club Improv and Sketch Comedy Competition.
