The Kangaroos said on Tuesday he would be sidelined for up to eight weeks but could yet return before the season is out. Club doctor Peter Baquie confirmed surgery was required.
"A surgeon will re-attach the tendon on Thursday and, unfortunately, that means Jamie is looking at around six to eight weeks on the sidelines. But we're very optimistic about it being the former," he told the club's website.
