Universal Cable Productions

Universal Cable Productions (UCP) is a television production company operating within NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment division of NBCUniversal.

History

In July 2008, Universal Cable Productions was split off from Universal Media Studios (UMS) and placed into NBCUniversal's NBCU Cable Entertainment division. The unit was placed under the direction of a management team consisting of 5 executives. Originally, UCP was set up to produce shows for NBCU and other cable channels.

Formerly at UMS, Doug Liman and Dave Bartis’ Hypnotic Films & Television moved to UCP after a few shows were turned down at UMS. Hypnotic signed a two-year overall deal with UCP. Hypnotic produced with UCP Covert Affairs for USA Network then I Just Want My Pants Back, its first non-NBCU channel production, for MTV. With Hypnotic and a first chief operating officer hired, UCP has expanded enough that they are moving to produce shows for any network or channel, broadcast or cable. Its NBCU Broadcasting counterpart, Universal Television has also moved to be a full-service TV studio.

Music video

A music video or song video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. There are also cases where songs are used in tie in marketing campaigns that allow them to become more than just a song. Tie ins and merchandising could be used in toys are marketing campaigns for food and other products. Although the origins of music videos date back to musical short films that first appeared in the 1920s, they came into prominence in the 1980s when MTV based their format around the medium. Prior to the 1980s, these works were described by various terms including "illustrated song", "filmed insert", "promotional (promo) film", "promotional clip", "promotional video", "song video", "song clip" or "film clip". Since the creation and increased popularity of YouTube, mainstream artists now promote new music videos by releasing trailers of short promos on the site for their upcoming song and music video. Consequentially, YouTube has been converted into a social media platform for celebrities and artists to market themselves to their fans and audiences.

Music video director

A music video director is the head of music video production. The director conceives of videos' artistic and dramatic aspects while instructing the musical act, technical crew, actors, models, and dancers. They may or may not be in collaboration with the musical act.

On November 8, 1992, MTV began listing directors with the artist, song, and record company credits, because music videos had increasingly become an auteur's medium. "The case for the director as music video author is strong. It is the music video director who has principal control of everything that is added to the pre-existing recorded sound text." Directors, including Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze, and F. Gary Gray, have gone on to direct feature films, continuing a trend that had begun earlier with directors such as Lasse Hallström and David Fincher. The most expensive video of all time was directed by Mark Romanek: Michael and Janet Jackson's "Scream" (1995), which cost $7 million to produce. In 2003, Spike Jonze, Chris Cunningham, and Michel Gondry founded the Directors Label.

A television program is a segment of content intended for broadcast on vision, other than a commercial, trailer, or any other segment of content not serving as attraction for viewership. It may be a single production, or more commonly, a series of related productions (also called a television series).

A television series that is intended to comprise a limited number of episodes may be called a miniseries or serial. Series without a fixed length are usually divided into seasons or series, yearly or semiannual sets of new episodes. While there is no defined length, US industry practice tends to favor longer seasons than those of some other countries.

A one-time broadcast may be called a "special," or particularly in the UK a "special episode." A television film ("made-for-TV movie" or "television movie"), is a film that is initially broadcast on television rather than released in theaters or direct-to-video.

A program can be either recorded, as on video tape, other various electronic media forms, played with an on-demand player or viewed on live television.

Brittney Powell

Brittney Powell (born March 4, 1972 in Würzburg, West Germany) is a German-American actress. She was the star of the series Safety Geeks: SVI. She represented the show at Comic-Con in San Diego, California during 2009 and modeled for the Safety Geeks' 2010, 2011, and 2012 Safety Pin-Up Calendars.

Early life

Powell was born on March 4, 1972 in Würzburg, West Germany.

Career

Powell started her career in 1991 in Playboy: Girls of Spring Break as herself. She then went on to be a contestant on Round Trip to Heaven. Powell has guest starred in more than 25 different TV series such as Friends, Harry and the Hendersons, California Dreams, The Commish, Silk Stalkings, Tarzan: The Epic Adventures, The Sentinel, The Sentinel, NCIS and Safety Geeks: SVI.

Powell has starred in more than seven films including Airborne, The Unborn II, and That Thing You Do!.

Powell has starred in the short-lived Pacific Palisades in 1997. She was cast as Summer Halloway on General Hospital in 2002 where she had a contract role.
