A church building, often simply called a church, is a building used for religious activities, particularly worship services. The term in its architectural sense is most often used by Christians to refer to their religious buildings; they can be used by other religions. In traditional Christian architecture, the church is often arranged in the shape of a Christian cross. When viewed from plan view the longest part of a cross is represented by the aisle and the junction of the cross is located at the altar area.
Towers or domes are often added with the intention of directing the eye of the viewer towards the heavens and inspiring church visitors. Modern church buildings have a variety of architectural styles and layouts; many buildings that were designed for other purposes have now been converted for church use; and, similarly, many original church buildings have been put to other uses.
The earliest identified Christian church was a house church founded between 233 and 256. During the 11th through 14th centuries, a wave of building of cathedrals and smaller parish churches occurred across Western Europe. A cathedral is a church, usually Roman Catholic, Anglican, Oriental Orthodox or Eastern Orthodox, housing the seat of a bishop.
The Church Building is located at the corner of Main and Market Streets in downtown Poughkeepsie, New York, United States, just across Market Street from the Dutchess County Court House, and north of the Bardavon Theater. It is a complex of stores and other commercial space, so named because it is owned by the Reformed Dutch Church of Poughkeepsie, which has owned the land since 1717 and benefits from the rental income. It was the western anchor of Main Mall, the city's former pedestrian mall.
It is considered the best example of Art Deco architecture in the city, where most commercial buildings predate the style's popularity in the 1930s. The two-story building has tilework designs suggesting Native American aesthetics. Other ornamental touches associated with Art Deco include, floral and patterned metalwork along the shop cornices, and polished green and black marble inside. There are also ribbed pilasters between the windows and a multicolored chevron pattern above and below the roof parapets.
Church may refer to:
A building or edifice is a structure with a roof and walls standing more or less permanently in one place, such as a house or factory. Buildings come in a variety of shapes, sizes and functions, and have been adapted throughout history for a wide number of factors, from building materials available, to weather conditions, to land prices, ground conditions, specific uses and aesthetic reasons. To better understand the term building compare the list of nonbuilding structures.
Buildings serve several needs of society – primarily as shelter from weather, security, living space, privacy, to store belongings, and to comfortably live and work. A building as a shelter represents a physical division of the human habitat (a place of comfort and safety) and the outside (a place that at times may be harsh and harmful).
Ever since the first cave paintings, buildings have also become objects or canvasess of artistic expression. In recent years, interest in sustainable planning and building practices has also become an intentional part of the design process of many new buildings.
Our Lady of Sorrows (Latin: Beata Maria Virgo Perdolens), the Sorrowful Mother or Mother of Sorrows (Latin: Mater Dolorosa), and Our Lady of Piety, Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows or Our Lady of the Seven Dolours are names by which the Blessed Virgin Mary is referred to in relation to sorrows in her life. As Mater Dolorosa, it is also a key subject for Marian art in the Catholic Church.
The Seven Sorrows of Mary are a popular Roman Catholic devotion. In common religious Catholic imagery, the Blessed Virgin Mary is portrayed in a sorrowful and lacrimating affect, with seven daggers piercing her heart, often bleeding. Devotional prayers that consist of meditation began to elaborate on her Seven Sorrows based on the prophecy of Simeon. Common examples of piety under this title are Servite rosary, or the Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady and the Seven Joys of Mary and more recently, "Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary".
The feast of Our Lady of Sorrows is liturgically celebrated each 15 of September, while a feast of Friday of Sorrows is observed in some Catholic countries.

The project we are erecting in this video is a church located in Bonita, CA. It is a pre-engineered metal building that will be used for the main structure. The video shows our crew installing the rafters onto the steel columns using a crane. The crane is being used because of the clear span width of the building exceeds 70 ft. which makes it faster and safer to install. After the rigid frames are up and secured, we place the purlins in between the frames for stability and roof support. A standing seam roof will be attached to the purlins to create a complete envelope. Hello Partners/Friends/Well-wishers We are excited to inform you about our church building fund raising campaign. God provided the Church with a 3.1 Acres of Land in South East Houston in early 2015. Partner with RCCG Dayspring Chapel in the construction of the permanent worship center. Click link and video to view a short presentation. We are currently limited in our outreach agenda to the community in our current location. This new location is a tool for greater and larger outreach in our community for Christ. Our Goal is to have 5 million people give $1 each to raise the $5 million dollars towards the construction of the new worship center. On your social media share this building campaign with family, friends and have them partner with what God is doing.Thank you participating in th...
http://ourladyofsorrows.org -- In this video, we take you on site to the constructing of the new Church building of Our Lady of Sorrows in Phoenix, Arizona. Our Lady of Sorrows was established in 1980 when a small group of traditionalists purchased the current church site from a Protestant denomination. Over the years, Sunday attendance has steadily grown to an average of 550 faithful. The property is 10.8 acres. It is primarily comprised of the current Protestant-designed church, a growing K-12 Catholic school for 75 students, and a 34-room retreat house. Retreatants come from across North America to attend one or more of fourteen retreats each year. Phoenix also annually hosts one of the two priests' retreats. More than 35 priests and usually a bishop are in attendance. The site also ...
Whether you're into Christianity or not, you gotta admit that church buildings are pretty fascinating. They're all over the map in terms of design and feel, and I thought it would be fun to put some thought into why that is. I met my buddy Shelby and went on a bizarre break-neck speed church architecture tour in Southern California to try to understand it better. We literally went unannounced to over 30 churches and learned a lot by looking around and through some fascinating conversations. I went on the trip expecting to find one thing, and the I found something else. That's always good for the humility meter and makes for a much more interesting trip. This video has two associated bonus video that I'll link here in case you want more. Architect Wade Simpson's Firm is Pugsly. Simpso...

We've all heard about the devastation and loss caused by Hurricane Sandy to the Northeastern seaboard, but a little faith can go a long way in the midst of even the greatest of storms. Even though Victory Baptist Church's building was completely destroyed by the hurricane, the Christians in the Bronx pulled together in a spirit of unity to rebuild their home church. During this crisis, churches around the country banded together and showered this small church with love, prayer, and financial support. Victory Baptist church was holding it's first service in a freshly remodeled building in just six short days! This is a powerful story of how one churches's faith overcame the great storm. www.fundamentalmedia.org

Children at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church share what the church's building program is all about and try to put the investment the congregation is making into a perspective they can understand.
Most people associate the name of Cowdray with polo, but it has long been a major estate on the edge of Midhurst, West Sussex. The sombre ruins of the original Cowdray Castle are clearly visible close to the town, looking a little like the setting for a horror film. The building of Cowdray Castle started during the early 16th Century. In 1542, following the Dissolution of the Roman Catholic Church, Henry the Eighth awarded the castle to one Sir Anthony Browne, Master of the Horse. This was a little strange since Browne was a staunch Roman Catholic. Browne died in 1548. Cowdray Castle saw its heyday in the time of Browne's son, Sir Anthony Browne the Second. An important man in the court of Queen Elizabeth the First, he was highly trusted by the Queen and sent by her on missions overseas t...
