Railroad history in the making as the first "Champion" painted FEC SD40-2s to run on the CSX Miami and Homestead Subdivisions roll in on K915-09. In this package we chase K915 from Deerfield Beach to Hollywood on the Miami Sub, and then catch two of the four motors (and the right leader!) on famed O721-10 on the Homestead Subdivision. Included, some "preshow" action on the FEC mainline of late trains 121 and 123 due to a trespasser fatality on 210.

To skip to the Circus Train: Go to 5:35 and 10:24 in the video.
My first full South Florida railfan outing in months; this time I take an early evening to catch the first freights of the New Year on the Florida East Coast Railway. Of course, the main event is the annual catch of the Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus Train (Blue Unit - "Out of this World") on FEC. Having chosen Delray Beach in hopes of fast action, unfortunately a car stalled on the tracks which tied up the mainline for a good half an hour. Things later got underway but piled up, which meant back to back to back southbounds. Included are FEC trains 222 with a decent lashup, 141 the first southbound of the year, CIR-02, the Circus Train, and 101 with "Guess Who?" on the throttle. It was pretty cool seeing the trifecta at Hollywood. Note the newly upgraded railroad crossings at Tyler and Harrison Streets. Also, I threw in a catch of CSX O721-02, the first of its kin for the new year at the beginning.
UPDATE: Unfortunately it was announced the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus will cease to operate this May on account of lost attendance and revenue. It comes with shock and sadness, and reflects off the notion "Here today, gone tomorrow". The last train leaves Jan. 16, but this was indeed the last ever shots of it coming in. For which, the locations I chose, I have no regrets.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is an American circus company billed as The Greatest Show on Earth. The circus, known as Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Combined Shows, was started in 1919 when the circus created by James Anthony Bailey and P. T. Barnum was merged with the Ringling Brothers Circus. The Ringling brothers has purchased the Barnum & Bailey "Greatest Show on Earth" following Bailey's death in 1907, but ran the circuses separately until they were merged in 1919. On July 16, 1956 at the Heidelberg Race Track in Pittsbugh, Pennsylvania the circus ended its season early, with President John Ringling North announcing that it would no longer exhibit under their own portable tents and starting in 1957 would exhibit in permanent venues, such as sports stadiums and arenas that had the seating already in place. In 1967 Irvin Feld and his brother Israel, along with Houston Judge Roy Hofheinz bought the circus from the Ringling family. In 1971 the Felds and Hofheinz sold the circus to Mattel, buying it back from the toy company in 1982. After the death of Irvin Feld in 1984 the circus has been a part of Feld Entertainment, an international entertainment firm headed by Kenneth Feld.

To skip to the Circus Train: Go to 5:35 and 10:24 in the video.
My first full South Florida railfan outing in months; this time I take an early evening to catch the first freights of the New Year on the Florida East Coast Railway. Of course, the main event is the annual catch of the Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus Train (Blue Unit - "Out of this World") on FEC. Having chosen Delray Beach in hopes of fast action, unfortunately a car stalled on the tracks which tied up the mainline for a good half an hour. Things later got underway but piled up, which meant back to back to back southbounds. Included are FEC trains 222 with a decent lashup, 141 the first southbound of the year, CIR-02, the Circus Train, and 101 with "Guess Who?" on the throttle. It was pretty cool seeing the trifecta at Hollywood. Note the newly upgraded railroad crossings at Tyler and Harrison Streets. Also, I threw in a catch of CSX O721-02, the first of its kin for the new year at the beginning.
UPDATE: Unfortunately it was announced the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus will cease to operate this May on account of lost attendance and revenue. It comes with shock and sadness, and reflects off the notion "Here today, gone tomorrow". The last train leaves Jan. 16, but this was indeed the last ever shots of it coming in. For which, the locations I chose, I have no regrets.
