Greg Renoff BIO:
Greg Renoff was born in the Bronx, New York, and grew up in New Jersey. Renoff earned his Ph.D. in American history from Brandeis University and is the author of Van Halen Rising: How a Southern California Backyard Party Band Saved Heavy Metal and the authorized autobiography of a Grammy-winning record producer, Ted Templeman: A Platinum Producer's Life in Music. In addition, his writing has appeared in LA Weekly, the Los Angeles Times, Vulture, Guitar World, Los Angeles Magazine, Noisey, Ultimate Classic Rock and his work has been covered by Spin, Salon, Maxim, Rolling Stone, Oklahoma Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, the Associated Press, The Tulsa World, and The Boston Herald. Sound Techniques Owner, Danny White is no stranger to a challenge. In 2015 he purchased the company Sound Techniques which was responsible for making one of the most premier and top level recording consoles throughout 1965- 1974. Recording Engineer, Peggy McCreary started her career as an engineer at Sunset Sound in the 1970's. Being one of the first female engineers was not an easy task but with in a short amount of time she was working 2nd chair on Van Halen and Elton John as well as being head engineer for 7 years with Prince during his most productive and successful years. Peggy came back to Sunset Sound in studio 3 to share what she remembers from her start in the recording industry and how Prince was the greatest and most difficult artist to work with. Sunset Sound Recorders
Sunset Sound Recorders is a recording studio in Hollywood, California, United States located at 6650 Sunset Boulevard.
The Sunset Sound Recorders complex was created by Walt Disney's Director of Recording, Tutti Camarata, from a collection of old commercial and residential buildings - some built more than 80 years ago. At the encouragement of Disney himself, Camarata began the project in 1958, starting with a former automotive repair garage whose sloping floor would tend to reduce unwanted sonic standing wave reflections. Soon, the audio for many of Disney's early films was being recorded at the studio, including Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Mary Poppins, and 101 Dalmatians.
Over 200 Gold records have been recorded at Sunset Sound, including albums by Prince with Purple Rain, the Rolling Stones with the legendary Exile on Main St., The Beach Boys with the landmark Pet Sounds album, Linda Ronstadt with her first disc for David Geffen's Asylum Records label Don't Cry Now, part of the Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy album, as well as hit albums for Elton John and Led Zeppelin.

Sound recording and reproduction is an electrical or mechanical inscription and re-creation of sound waves, such as spoken voice, singing, instrumental music, or sound effects. The two main classes of sound recording technology are analog recording and digital recording. Acoustic analog recording is achieved by a small microphone diaphragm that can detect changes in atmospheric pressure (acoustic sound waves) and record them as a graphic representation of the sound waves on a medium such as a phonograph (in which a stylus senses grooves on a record). In magnetic tape recording, the sound waves vibrate the microphone diaphragm and are converted into a varying electric current, which is then converted to a varying magnetic field by an electromagnet, which makes a representation of the sound as magnetized areas on a plastic tape with a magnetic coating on it. Analog sound reproduction is the reverse process, with a bigger loudspeaker diaphragm causing changes to atmospheric pressure to form acoustic sound waves. Electronically generated sound waves may also be recorded directly from devices such as an electric guitar pickup or a synthesizer, without the use of acoustics in the recording process other than the need for musicians to hear how well they are playing during recording sessions.

Greg Renoff BIO:
Greg Renoff was born in the Bronx, New York, and grew up in New Jersey. Renoff earned his Ph.D. in American history from Brandeis University and is the author of Van Halen Rising: How a Southern California Backyard Party Band Saved Heavy Metal and the authorized autobiography of a Grammy-winning record producer, Ted Templeman: A Platinum Producer's Life in Music. In addition, his writing has appeared in LA Weekly, the Los Angeles Times, Vulture, Guitar World, Los Angeles Magazine, Noisey, Ultimate Classic Rock and his work has been covered by Spin, Salon, Maxim, Rolling Stone, Oklahoma Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, the Associated Press, The Tulsa World, and The Boston Herald. As a commentator, he’s appeared on Los Angeles Times Today, CTV's Your Morning, XM's Canada Talks, Debatable with Alan Light and Mark Goodman, The Eddie Trunk Show, and numerous other radio shows and podcasts, including Rolling Stone Music Now's tribute episode to the late Eddie Van Halen. Greg Renoff BIO:
Greg Renoff was born in the Bronx, New York, and grew up in New Jersey. Renoff earned his Ph.D. in American history from Brandeis University and is the author of Van Halen Rising: How a Southern California Backyard Party Band Saved Heavy Metal and the authorized autobiography of a Grammy-winning record producer, Ted Templeman: A Platinum Producer's Life in Music. In addition, his writing has appeared in LA Weekly, the Los Angeles Times, Vulture, Guitar World, Los Angeles Magazine, Noisey, Ultimate Classic Rock and his work has been covered by Spin, Salon, Maxim, Rolling Stone, Oklahoma Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, the Associated Press, The Tulsa World, and The Boston Herald. As a commentator, he’s appeared on Los Angeles Times Today, CTV's Your Morning, XM's Canada Talks, Debatable with Alan Light and Mark Goodman, The Eddie Trunk Show, and numerous other radio shows and podcasts, including Rolling Stone Music Now's tribute episode to the late Eddie Van Halen. He lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Her 33 year relationship began in Minneapolis when she first met Prince and was cast in the mega hit "Purple Rain" one week later. Sound Techniques Owner, Danny White is no stranger to a challenge. In 2015 he purchased the company Sound Techniques which was responsible for making one of the most premier and top level recording consoles throughout 1965- 1974. Sunset Sound was the first one in The United States to get one of these English Made Consoles and it wound up being used on the some of the best known albums of all time from John Lennon, Frank Zappa, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Captain Beefheart, The Doors, Elton John and so so many more. Danny sits down at Sunset Sound and talks about his new partnership with Sunset Sound owner Paul Camarata, also sitting in is Engineer and Sound Techniques associate Brian Kehew who shares about his relationship with Sound Techniques. The Roundtable also share's where else the console's were housed at famous recording studios all over the globe, such as De Lane Lea, Trident, Kingston , Jamaica , Elektra Records and so on. Recording Engineer, Peggy McCreary started her career as an engineer at Sunset Sound in the 1970's. Being one of the first female engineers was not an easy task but with in a short amount of time she was working 2nd chair on Van Halen and Elton John as well as being head engineer for 7 years with Prince during his most productive and successful years. Peggy came back to Sunset Sound in studio 3 to share what she remembers from her start in the recording industry and how Prince was the greatest and most difficult artist to work with. Sunset Sound Recorders
Sunset Sound Recorders is a recording studio in Hollywood, California, United States located at 6650 Sunset Boulevard.
The Sunset Sound Recorders complex was created by Walt Disney's Director of Recording, Tutti Camarata, from a collection of old commercial and residential buildings - some built more than 80 years ago. At the encouragement of Disney himself, Camarata began the project in 1958, starting with a former automotive repair garage whose sloping floor would tend to reduce unwanted sonic standing wave reflections. Soon, the audio for many of Disney's early films was being recorded at the studio, including Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Mary Poppins, and 101 Dalmatians.
Over 200 Gold records have been recorded at Sunset Sound, including albums by Prince with Purple Rain, the Rolling Stones with the legendary Exile on Main St., The Beach Boys with the landmark Pet Sounds album, Linda Ronstadt with her first disc for David Geffen's Asylum Records label Don't Cry Now, part of the Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy album, as well as hit albums for Elton John and Led Zeppelin.
