Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a rock structure near Morrison, Colorado, 10 miles west of Denver, where concerts are given in the open-air amphitheatre. There is a large, tilted, disc-shaped rock behind the stage, a huge vertical rock angled outwards from stage right, several large outcrops angled outwards from stage left and a seating area for up to 9,525 people in between. The amphitheatre is owned and operated by the City and County of Denver, Colorado and is located in Red Rocks Park, part of the Denver Mountain Parks system.
History
In the early 1900s (decade), John Brisben Walker had a vision of artists performing on a stage nestled in the perfect acoustic surroundings of Red Rocks, which likely were used by the Ute tribe in earlier times. Walker produced a number of concerts between 1906 and 1910 on a temporary platform; and from his dream, the history of Red Rocks as an entertainment venue began.
Geologically, the rocks surrounding the Amphitheatre are representative of the Fountain Formation. Originally the place was known as the "Garden of the Angels" (1870s-1906), and then as "Garden of the Titans" during the Walker years (1906–1928). The park, however, had always been known by the folk name of "Red Rocks", which became its formal name when Denver acquired it in 1928. The amphitheatre's rocks are named "Creation Rock" on the north, "Ship Rock" on the south, and "Stage Rock" to the east. Red Rocks Amphitheatre was designed by Denver architect Burnham Hoyt.

Rock (geology)
In geology, rock or stone is a naturally occurring solid aggregate of one or more minerals or mineraloids. For example, the common rock granite is a combination of the quartz, feldspar and biotite minerals. The Earth's outer solid layer, the lithosphere, is made of rock.
Rocks have been used by mankind throughout history. From the Stone Age, rocks have been used for tools. The minerals and metals found in rocks have been essential to human civilization.
Three major groups of rocks are defined: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. The scientific study of rocks is called petrology, which is an essential component of geology.
Classification
At a granular level, rocks are composed of grains of minerals, which, in turn, are homogeneous solids formed from a chemical compound that is arranged in an orderly manner. The aggregate minerals forming the rock are held together by chemical bonds. The types and abundance of minerals in a rock are determined by the manner in which the rock was formed. Many rocks contain silica (SiO2); a compound of silicon and oxygen that forms 74.3% of the Earth's crust. This material forms crystals with other compounds in the rock. The proportion of silica in rocks and minerals is a major factor in determining their name and properties.

"THAT'S NOT A NAME,"
The creature spoke sharply, its patience waning. "Stop lying. What do people call you?"
The little girl trembled, unsure how to satisfy the demanding creature's question.
"That's it. They call me evil. It's is the only thing anyone has ever called me,"
Though the little girl had only repeated her answer, it seemed to have calmed the creature's aggression... for that moment.
"That's a terrible name," the creature stood back and with its bony arm flung a rock into the pond in front of them. The little girl watched the rock rhythmically skim the water as it bounced several times before plunging beneath the depths. She could hardly contain her amazement.
"Are you a sorcerer?!"
"A sorcerer?" The creature snapped back as it puffed up its chest and stood face to face with the little girl. "Do I look like a sorcerer?"
"Of course not!" The little girl decided it best to give an answer that would induce the least amount of anger from the tempermental creature.
"Really now? You think I don't look intimidating enough to be a sorcerer, do you?" The creature raised a fist to the little girl who took a few steps back.
Finally, the creature lowered its fist and broke into laughter.
"Tortoise tits I'm joking. I'm not a sorcerer. I'm just a girl. Just a simple, boring, girl like you."
The creature tossed another rock into the pond that skipped five times before sinking beneath the water.
"I am?" The little girl watched the creature -- or the other girl, rather -- skip a third rock across the pond.
"Yes," the creature responded, "You are a girl. A very strange one at that."
The little smiled at the idea that she might bare some fragment of resemblance to this fascinating creature that stood next to her in the swamp...

Typical of Bryce, the canyon’s fantastic and bizarre „hoodoos“ were created by natural erosion and rise ever upward like towering cathedrals and great skyscrapers, conveying a sense of eternity. The highest point of the park reaches a height of over 2000 metres and contains pines and juniper trees whereas, lower down, there are poplars and willows. In contrast to other canyons, Bryce is not a ravine. It is reminiscent of an amphitheatre that has been dug out of soft limestone. Its rock formations, which originally formed on the seabed, contain large quantities of minerals that produce a fascinating array of colour. Iron oxide is responsible for the strong red tones, copper produces the green hues and manganese adds deep violet. With its various lighting effects, the sun continuously casts a spell on the rocky terrain of this mystical place. This setting of stone and colour infatuates the observer and seduces his imagination and it’s easy to believe that one is in another galaxy. The landscape suggests another planet, an unknown world, Light Years away from Earth, and a Black Hole away from civilisation as we know it. The semi-fanciful rock formations are reminiscent of the irregularly-shaped buildings in fairy-tales, sagas and actual reality. Thus this architecture shaped by nature has been given names such as ‘Thor’s Hammer’ and ‘Gulliver’s Castle’ and it has also been likened to Hindu temples and even Wall Street. The Utes oral traditions tell of their creation at the Garden of the Gods. Petroglyphs have been found in the park that are typical of early Utes. They found red rocks to have a spiritual connection and camped near Manitou Springs and the creek near Rock Ledge Ranch bordering Garden of the Gods. Other tribes traveled through Garden of the Gods.[2] The Old Ute Trail went past Garden of the Gods to Ute Pass and led later explorers through Manitou Springs. Starting in the 16th century, Spanish explorers and later European American explorers and trappers traveled through the area, including Lt. John C. Freemont and Lt. George Frederick Ruxton, who recorded their visits in their journals.[3]
The area was first called Red Rock Corral.[3] Then, in August 1859, two surveyors who helped to set up Colorado City explored the site. One of the surveyors, M. S. Beach, suggested that it would be a "capital place for a beer garden". His companion, the young Rufus Cable, awestruck by the impressive rock formations, exclaimed, "Beer Garden! Other tribes traveled through Garden of the Gods.[2] The Old Ute Trail went past Garden of the Gods to Ute Pass and led later explorers through Manitou Springs. Starting in the 16th century, Spanish explorers and later European American explorers and trappers traveled through the area, including Lt. John C. Freemont and Lt. George Frederick Ruxton, who recorded their visits in their journals.[3]
The area was first called Red Rock Corral.[3] Then, in August 1859, two surveyors who helped to set up Colorado City explored the site. One of the surveyors, M. S. Beach, suggested that it would be a "capital place for a beer garden". His companion, the young Rufus Cable, awestruck by the impressive rock formations, exclaimed, "Beer Garden! Why it is a fit place for the gods to assemble. We will call it the Garden of the Gods,More Info
