Comentário: Primeiro disco desta banda vinda da Cidade do México, que chegou a lançar outro LP dois anos depois e se desfez. Dividido em 8 curtas faixas, traz uma típica mistura de rock latino, psicodélico e funk do começo da década, muito bem executado e com músicos talentosos, destaque para a guitarra e órgão afiados, seção rítmica endiabrada e vocais em inglês (em vários momentos há presença de coros). Apesar de sólido, as 'músicas-chave' são "Get Down and Do It", "I Like It Like That", "Squeeze It Tight" e "Cosa Nostra".
Mais um bom exemplo do rock mexicano setentista, boa pedida para fãs dos estilos citados acima.

Heavy funk from Mexico -- the massive first album from Cosa Nostra, and a burning blend of soul, Latin, and psychedelic influences! Cosa Nostra clearly come from the rock end of the spectrum, but have picked up plenty of funky grooves along the way -- and hit a genre-blending style that rivals some of their contemporaries on the South American scene!

Guitars are mixed with conga, keyboards, and some especially great vocals that are often in English -- and titles include a few covers -- the best of which is a nice take on Pete Rodriguez' "I Like It Like That" -- and a number of nice originals, like "Get Down & Do It", "Squeeze It Tight", "Cosa Nostra", and "Change Of Mind".

Comentário: Um dos discos mais raros já vindos de Israel, lançado pela pequena Krypton (mesmo selo que lançou a banda Zingale), este foi um projeto de curta duração do guitarrista Avrey Sharron com outros músicos locais. Dividido em 6 faixas, maioria curtas e todas instrumentais, o quarteto apresenta um jazz profundo e variando entre momentos pausados e contemplativos e outros dinâmicos e próximos do funk/ soul jazz, incluindo uma versão de "O Morro", de Tom Jobim e Vinícius de Moraes. A guitarra guia todas as canções, acompanhada por passagens competentes de piano e seção rítmica.
Um dos ótimos presentes de Israel para fãs de jazz fusion e funk, recomendado!

Sweet electric funk from the Tel Aviv scene of the 70s – a real rarity on vinyl, and a set that has a soulful groove to match the best American albums of the time! Guitarist Avrey Sharron has a lean line with a nice sense of space – especially nice on some of the mellower, moodier numbers – but also aflutter with colorful tunes at some more upbeat spots too! His guitar is the main instrument in the lead, alongside bass and drums – but one track also features loads of excellent electric piano from Doodie Rosenthal, who works with Sharron on a killer ten minute take on "This Masquerade". Other tracks include "Black Sunshine", "Ruthie's Waltz", "Oasis", and "O Morro".

Comentário: Duo formado por irmãos paraguaios de origem alemã nos anos 60, que já participavam de pequenos grupos beat do país na época. Gravaram suas canções em estúdio caseiro, lançado em 1971 na vizinha Argentina de forma privada e hoje redescoberto por conta do relançamento com bônus da Guerssen Records.
As 17 curtas faixas presentes trazem desde pop / beat psicodélico 'chiclete' até rock psicodélico garageiro nervoso (como em "Reflexiones Heladas", "Fantasma Del Sonido", "Espíritu Fosforescente" e "Imagen En Rojo"), com destaque para as passagens barulhentas de órgão Farfisa, acompanhado por guitarra e bateria, sempre em atmosfera amadora, rudimentar. O vocais são em inglês e espanhol.
Outro bom e surpreendente registro que provam que o rock não tem fronteiras.

Originally released in 1971 as a private pressing, "Pops de Vanguardia" by JODI contains tracks mostly written and recorded in 1969 (with some dating back to 1966) by brothers Joern and Dirk Wenger at their homemade "Jodi Experimental Studio" in Paraguay.
The two brothers had built their own homemade studio and they spent hours and hours recording songs and experimenting to create their own sound effects (echo, reverb, etc). They called their music "Spontaneous Pop".
"Pops De Vanguardia" was recorded at their own rudimentary studio with two tape recorders. Joern plays guitar, organ and he was the lead vocalist, while Dirk plays drums and percussions. From ultra–catchy garage–pop to killer instrumental Farfisa numbers and proto–psychedelic sounds. JODI could be seen as precursors of the indie–pop and lo–fi garage which would appear some decades later.

Comentário: Gravado em Lusaka, quase nada se sabe sobre este artista e o que parece ser seu único disco, tendo número pífio de cópias e hoje sendo uma das 'raridades máximas' dentro do rock africano. Conta com presença do percussionista Peter Lungu, que chegou a participar do WITCH.
O álbum traz 10 faixas curtas, que podem ser classificadas como Zam rock, mesclando estilos ocidentais, principalmente funk, soul e blues, porém sem presença de psicodelia / fuzz de outros conterrâneos, além de fortes influências de ritmos tradicionais, com a maioria das músicas cantadas em língua local. O instrumental é simples, baseado em percussão e bateria, além de tímida guitarra. A qualidade do som também não é das melhores, mas ainda aceitável devido as condições e tempo de gravação.

Recorded in Lusaka, almost nothing is known about this artist and what seems to be his only record, having a very low number of copies and today being one of the 'top rarities' of African rock. There is presence of percussionist Peter Lungu, who participated of WITCH.
The album features 10 short tracks, which can be classified as Zam rock, mixing western styles, mainly funk, soul and blues, but without the presence of psychedelia / fuzz like others countrymen, as well as strong influences of traditional rhythms, with most tracks sung in the local language. The instrumental is simple, based on percussion and drums, as well as timid guitar. The sound quality is also not the best, but still acceptable due to the conditions and recording time.

Comentário: Formada em Walnut Creek, Califórnia, em 1966, esta foi uma das muitas bandas locais que emergiram na época, e apesar de participar de diversos festivais e abrirem para grandes nomes, nunca conseguiram assinar com uma gravadora para lançar seu material. Apenas EPs promocionais / demos foram gravados, tendo pouquíssimas cópias (cerca de 50). Em 2005 estas antigas gravações (em estúdio e ao vivo) saíram em compilação, tendo uma nova versão em 2014 (que posto aqui hoje).
São 15 faixas de rock psicodélico, com pitadas de west coast, garagem, hard e blues, totalizando quase 80 minutos. Variando entre momento de rock pesado e raivoso e outras baladas hippies, o grupo encontra uma consistência no som, guiado pelo excelente trabalho na guitarra de Greg Douglass, além de riffs duplos, ótimos vocais e 'cozinha' competente, salientados ainda mais nas longas jams ao vivo (nas canções que fecham o disco).
Uma ótima pérola da geração hippie da costa oeste, recomendado!

This archival collection of previously unreleased mat'l by one of my favorite psych bands is probably the only accessible source of their mat'l by most listeners. Their only other "release", if you want to call it that, was a one-sided, 5 song demo, pressed in an extremely limited quantity (20?), and is impossibly rare nowadays. 4 of the 5 tracks appeared on a comp from sometime in the 80's, but this is also quite scarce now. This 2-disc release features 1 studio side recorded in 1969, one from '71, and the other disc is live recordings from 1970. All of their mat'l is steeped in that west coast, psychedelic sound that emanated from San Fran starting in 1966, and drew to a close not long after these recordings were made. A great package, recommended to fans of the genre.

Country Weather is a psychedelic rock band from the San Francisco area and were in their heyday from 1969 to 1971. They remind one of Country Joe and the Fish or Quicksilver Messenger Service, just a bit more hickified.

The lead guitar is outstanding and the dual guitar riffs, especially on the "live" material are very decent. Too bad a mucky muck never took an interest in them. They were a solid psych rock band that could have made an impact.

Comentário: Formada em Wuppertal em 1969 por jovens que já tocavam em pequenos grupos de garagem da época, o Apple Pie lançou apenas um compacto em 1970 e logo se desfez. Fez parte da compilação Psychedelic Gems décadas depois.

 No lado A ouvimos a música "Ballad Of The Crying Man", destaque do single, que abre com flauta, guitarra e órgão, lembrando Jethro Tull, e se desenrola com guitarra wah-wah e vocais em inglês, quase em um levada de blues. "Maurice" traz uma pegada mais psicodélica e garageira, novamente com destaque para a guitarra pesada. 

Formed in Wuppertal in 1969 by young people already playing in small garage groups of the time, Apple Pie only released a single in 1970 and soon disbanded. It was part of the compilation Psychedelic Gems decades later.

 On the A side we hear the song "Ballad Of The Crying Man", the highlight of the single, which opens with flute, guitar and organ, reminding Jethro Tull, and unfolds with wah-wah guitar and vocals in English. "Maurice" brings a more 60's psychedelic / garage style, again featuring heavy guitar.

Posteriormente lançaram vários singles com composições próprias, porém nenhum LP (a postagem que trago aqui é uma compilação não oficial das músicas lançadas no período). Houve uma rápida reunião em 2014.

Ouvimos aqui 8 curtas e surpreendentes faixas, considerando a localização e época dos registros, pois trazem um rock psicodélico pesado, garageiro e 'sujo', com guitarra fuzz nervosa liderando em todas as canções, vocais de personalidade (letras em inglês e espanhol) e seção rítmica endiabrada (especialmente em 'Woman'). Um grande exemplo que o rock não possui fronteiras, altamente recomendado para fãs de psicodelia sessentista!

A pioneering group of Guatemalan rock, formed in 1967, originally doing covers of great American and British names of the 60s. Later they released several singles with own compositions, however no LP (the post that I bring here is an unofficial compilation of the songs released in the period). There was a quick meeting in 2014.

We listen here to 8 short and surprising tracks, considering the location and time of the records, because they bring a heavy, garage and 'dirty' psychedelic rock, with nervous fuzz guitar leading in all the songs, good vocals (English and Spanish lyrics) and mad rhythmic section (especially in 'Woman'). A great example that rock has no boundaries, recommended for 60's psychedelia fans.

Comentário: Vindo de Palaio Faliro, esta foi uma das poucas bandas gregas de rock progressivo a lançar trabalhos oficiais, apesar de baixa prensagem. Foram 3 LPs no começo dos anos 80.

Diferente de muitos grupos locais, o som do quinteto é pouco influenciado por melodias tradicionais, mas sim pelo rock progressivo inglês da década anterior, especialmente Pink Floyd, com forte presença de órgão e sintetizadores, proporcionando certas partes viajantes e cósmicas. A guitarra também aparece bem em certos momentos, junto do vocal (em inglês). A produção é um ponto negativo, pecando em qualidade.

 Mesmo longe de ser uma obra-prima, esta é uma raridade que agradará fãs de prog / psych rock.

Pete & Royce are considered as one of the top and totally unique psych/progressive rock bands coming from Greece. Wired around Panagiotis “Pete” Tsiros, during the late ‘70s through to the early ‘80s, Pete & Royce offered to the European prog underground scene an astounding blend of trippy moods and moves: flashy melodies, hard guitar biting-fuzz, night crawling rhythms, mystifying electronic shifts and strange lyrics like oracles from an unknown book of Apocalypsis (very compatibly, two key members of another top progressive Greek group named Apocalypsis were also involved importantly in the recordings of Pete & Royce, the keyboardist Vasilis Dertilis and the vocalist Giannis Palamidas). Both albums of Pete & Royce ("Suffering of Tomorrow" - 1980, and "Days of Destruction" - 1981) are internationally sought after for their dreamy Pink-Floydian atmosphere, the brilliant vocals and guitars of Tsiros himself, the topnotch fiery interplay of all the participating musicians (especially of the key member, keyboardist and co-composer, Vasilis Ghinos) and the rarer but equally mind-blowing cosmic funk moments.

Comentário: Pérola vinda da Suíça e cujas informações e nomes dos membros são desconhecidos. Lançaram apenas um raro compacto pela Polydor, contendo as músicas "See Me" e "Desperate Man", ambas curtas, porém trazendo um heavy psych barulhento e direto, típico do começo dos anos 70. Riffs marcantes de guitarra fuzz, bateria 'quebrando tudo' e vocal cavernoso marcam o som, com as letras em inglês. Uma banda com grande potencial, porém que nos deixou apenas esses dois petardos.

Gem coming from Switzerland and whose information and names of members are unknown. They released only a rare compact by Polydor, containing the songs "See Me" and "Desperate Man", both short, but bringing a loud and straight heavy psych, typical of the early 70s. Fuzzy guitar riffs, furious drums and vocals mark the sound, with lyrics in English. A band with great potential, however that left us only those two great songs.

AFROBEAT/ FUNK - VINCENT AHEHEHINNOU - Vol. 1 - 1978

Comentário: Primeiro (e aparentemente único) disco solo deste músico de Benin, após sua saída de um dos mais prestigiados grupos da região: T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou. Gravado na Nigéria e com prensagem mínima na época, a obra ganha nova edição neste ano, pela Analog Africa. 

Dividido em 4 longas faixas, o LP traz uma mescla de ritmos tradicionais (Fon Music) com funk e psicodelia, ao melhor estilo do afrobeat no Oeste Africano. O instrumental é variado, onde ouvimos guitarra wah-wah, metais e rica percussão, por vezes repetitiva e hipnótica. Cantado em 4 línguas (inglês, francês, fon e mina), a parte lírica geralmente é feita por coros e com certos momentos de melancolia.

Raridade recomendada para todos os fãs de afrobeat dos anos 70.

In early 1978, Vincent Ahehehinnou left the Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou without explanation. He had been one of their principal vocalist since 1968 and had helped transform them from a hard-charging nightclub band into a musical powerhouse and Africa-wide sensation.

Vincent's afrobeat credentials are in full evidence on opening track ‘Best Woman' (English) whose driving beat, focussed horns and intricate vocal melody recall the raucous intensity of Poly-Rythmo. But the deep funk of the title track turns out to be only a warm-up for album-highlight ‘Maimouna Cherie' (French), a moving expression of love and longing which kicks off with a hi-hat and wah-wah guitar workout but shifts gears mid-way into a more concentrated and contemplative groove.

The funk and afrobeat gems on Best Woman are balanced by songs that draw upon Sato, one of the many Vodoun rhythms of Vincent's native Benin. Side one concludes with "Vi Deka" (Mina), an epic slow-burner propelled by some of the record's most soulful vocals, while album closer "Wa Do Verite Ton Noumi" (Fon) all but dares you not to lose yourself in its sublime hypnotic trance.
