Alone in the Dark is a critically acclaimed 1992 action-adventure horror video game originally designed by Frédérick Raynal and developed and published by Infogrames for the PC. In 1994, the game was ported for the 3DO by Krisalis. Alone in the Dark is considered a breakthrough and influential title, being the first 3D game in the genre of survival horror. It has spawned four follow-up games as part of the series, as well as two movies loosely based on them.

Set on October 31, 2001. Edward Carnby's best friend and partner, Charles Fiske, has been found dead off the coast of Shadow Island, a mysterious island near the coast of Massachusetts. Carnby's investigation quickly leads him to Frederick Johnson, who informs him of Fiske's search for three ancient tablets with the ability to unlock an incredible and dangerous power. Johnson pleads with Carnby to take the place of Fiske and reopen the investigation in order to recover the tablets. Carnby accepts and makes it his mission to find Fiske's killer. Johnson introduces Edward to Aline Cedrac, an intelligent, young university professor. She joins Edward to recover the missing tablets and assist Professor Obed Morton, who she believes to be her father. While flying over the coast of Shadow Island, Edward and Aline's plane comes under attack by an unknown creature. Edward and Aline both jump out of the plane and parachute to the ground, but are separated immediately. Edward lands in the dense forest just outside a manor, while Aline lands on the roof of said manor.

Launched in 1992, this is game is truly a pioneer. It's probably the first game the successfully merged the action games and puzzle focused adventures and the first game (if I'm not incorrect) that merged 3D characters with 2D hand drawn backgrounds. It's thought mostly relevant for being an obvious inspiration for Resident Evil, which is probably the game that altered the industry and lead it to more story focused games.
As far as the longplay goes, I was quite informal in the beginning so I could show a bit more of the game (it just shows the female character and the Game Over sequence) to the viewers that don't really know about it , so if you already played it, you can safely start the LP at 10:20 without missing much. I also read all the books in the game, which can be quite boring, so I'd recommend you to skip all of them. If you are still insterested, the most relevant ones story wise are the suicide note at 7:48 the diary at 27:48, The trial of Cpt. Pregtz at 55:42 (it's like 7 minutes long), The tale of Captain Cpt. Norson at 1:22:25 and A pirates log book at 1:36:54

Alone in the Dark
Alone in the Dark is a series of survival horror video game, originally developed by Infogrames. In most of the games, the player controls private investigator Edward Carnby, who goes to investigate a haunted mansion or town that is full of undead creatures.
The original story is based on the writings of H. P. Lovecraft, although later games in the series drew inspiration from other sources including voodoo, the Wild West, and the works of H. R. Giger. Six installments of the series have been created, with various themes and locations. Two comic books and two films were created based upon the games.
Games
Alone in the Dark (1992)
The first game in the series was developed by Infogrames and released for the PC in 1992. It was one of the first two games to use polygonal characters over pre-rendered backgrounds. Guinness World Records awarded it the record of "First Ever 3D Survival Horror Game" in the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition 2008 edition. Krisalis Software made a port for the 3DO in 1994 that was released by Interplay Entertainment. A Mac version was released in 1994. In 2014, Atari published a port to iOS developed by Kung Fu Factory.

Johnson pleads with Carnby to take the place of Fiske and reopen the investigation in order to recover the tablets. Carnby accepts and makes it his mission to find Fiske's killer. Johnson introduces Edward to Aline Cedrac, an intelligent, young university professor. She joins Edward to recover the missing tablets and assist Professor Obed Morton, who she believes to be her father. While flying over the coast of Shadow Island, Edward and Aline's plane comes under attack by an unknown creature. Edward and Aline both jump out of the plane and parachute to the ground, but are separated immediately. Edward lands in the dense forest just outside a manor, while Aline lands on the roof of said manor.

It's probably the first game the successfully merged the action games and puzzle focused adventures and the first game (if I'm not incorrect) that merged 3D characters with 2D hand drawn backgrounds. It's thought mostly relevant for being an obvious inspiration for Resident Evil, which is probably the game that altered the industry and lead it to more story focused games.
As far as the longplay goes, I was quite informal in the beginning so I could show a bit more of the game (it just shows the female character and the Game Over sequence) to the viewers that don't really know about it , so if you already played it, you can safely start the LP at 10:20 without missing much. I also read all the books in the game, which can be quite boring, so I'd recommend you to skip all of them. If you are still insterested, the most relevant ones story wise are the suicide note at 7:48 the diary at 27:48, The trial of Cpt. Pregtz at 55:42 (it's like 7 minutes long), The tale of Captain Cpt. Norson at 1:22:25 and A pirates log book at 1:36:54
