Pete's Dragon

Pete's Dragon is a 1977 live-action and animated musical film from Walt Disney Productions. It is a live-action film but one of its title characters, a dragon named Elliott, is animated. The story is about a young orphan named Pete who enters the town of Passamaquoddy, a small fishing community on Passamaquoddy Bay in eastern Maine. His only friend is a dragon named Elliott, who also acts as his protector and can make himself invisible and is generally visible only to Pete, which occasionally lands Pete in trouble with the locals. The film also stars Helen Reddy, Mickey Rooney, Jim Dale, Red Buttons, Jeff Conaway, and Shelley Winters. The film was directed by Don Chaffey, and the songs are by Al Kasha and Joel Hirschhorn.

The song "Candle on the Water" received an Academy Award nomination, but lost to "You Light Up My Life" from the film of the same title. Reddy's recording (with a different arrangement than the one her character sings in the film) was released as a single by Capitol Records, reaching #27 on the Adult Contemporary charts. The movie also received a nomination for Original Song Score and Its Adaptation or Adaptation Score, losing to A Little Night Music.

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (also known as AVP: R or AVP: R: Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem) is a 2007 American science fiction action horror film directed by the Brothers Strause (Colin and Greg), written by Shane Salerno, and starring Steven Pasquale, Reiko Aylesworth, and John Ortiz. It is the second installment of the Alien vs. Predator film franchise, continuing the crossover of the Alien and Predator franchises.

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem was released on December 25, 2007, and received negative reviews from film critics. The film grossed $9.5 million on its opening day and took in a worldwide gross of $128.9 million in theaters. According to Home Media Magazine, the film debuted at #1 in sales and rentals on Blu-ray and #2 on DVD when it was released on home video on April 15, 2008. Since then it has made $27,403,705 in DVD sales.

Plot

Following the events of Alien vs. Predator, a Predator ship is leaving Earth carrying Alien facehuggers, and the body of Scar, the Predator that defeated the Alien Queen. A chestburster erupts from Scar's body; it is a new creature that is a hybrid of both species. It quickly matures into an adult Predalien, makes its way onto a scout ship that is then detached from the mothership, and starts killing all the Predators on the ship. A Predator's weapon fire punctures the hull and the scout ship crashes in the forest outside of Gunnison, Colorado.

Bryce Dallas Howard

Bryce Dallas Howard (born March 2, 1981) is an American film actress and director. The daughter of director Ron Howard, she made her acting debut as an extra in her father's film Parenthood (1989) and went on to have small roles in films and make stage appearances for the next several years. During this time she also attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, later receiving a BFA and went to drama schools. After she came to the attention of M. Night Shyamalan, he cast her in what would be her breakout film, the psychological thriller The Village (2004) and then in the fantasy thriller Lady in the Water (2006). Her performance in As You Like It (2006), directed by Kenneth Branagh and based on the play of the same name by William Shakespeare, earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination. In 2006, she co-wrote and directed the short film Orchids.

Howard became more recognizable to audiences as Victoria in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010). This project, as well as Terminator Salvation (2009), was financially successful, but both films garnered mixed reviews from the press. In 2011, she had supporting roles in 50/50 and The Help. She also played a lead role, Claire Dearing, in the science fiction adventure film Jurassic World (2015), the fourth installment in the Jurassic Park film series and her most financially successful film to date.

Dragon

A dragon is a legendary creature, typically with serpentine or reptilian traits, that features in the myths of many cultures. There are two distinct cultural traditions of dragons: the European dragon, derived from European folk traditions and ultimately related to Greek and Middle Eastern mythologies, and the Chinese dragon, with counterparts in Japan (namely the Japanese dragon), Korea and other East Asian countries.

The two traditions may have evolved separately, but have influenced each other to a certain extent, particularly with the cross-cultural contact of recent centuries. The English word dragon derives from Greek δράκων (drákōn), "dragon, serpent of huge size, water-snake".

Name

The word dragon entered the English language in the early 13th century from Old French dragon, which in turn comes from Latin draconem (nominative draco) meaning "huge serpent, dragon", from the Greek word δράκων, drakon (genitive drakontos, δράκοντος) "serpent, giant seafish". The Greek and Latin term referred to any great serpent, not necessarily mythological, and this usage was also current in English up to the 18th century.
