John Andrew Hull (born November 7, 1986), better known as Andy Hull, is an American singer, guitarist and songwriter for the indie rock band Manchester Orchestra. He also has a side project Right Away, Great Captain!, as well as co-founder of a side project with friend and folk musician Kevin Devine by the name of Bad Books. Hull is also co-president of Manchester Orchestra's label, Favorite Gentlemen.
Hull was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He moved with his family seven years later and grew up in Richmond Hill, Ontario and moved back to Atlanta when he was 14 years old. His parents then bought him a guitar which he taught himself to play. A year later, he was writing and performing songs with a friend of his who played bass. After that band collapsed he started another one with Manchester Orchestra's keyboardist, Chris Freeman, on drums.
Hull initially intended Manchester Orchestra to be a solo project, with guest appearances by his friends. "I was listening to a lot of Morrissey and The Smiths," said Hull. "So the city of Manchester really fascinated me, as did the idea of being the leader of an orchestra and having all my friends come in to play."
Manchester Orchestra is an American indie rock band from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in 2004. The group is composed of rhythm guitarist-singer-songwriter Andy Hull, lead guitarist Robert McDowell, keyboardist/percussionist Chris Freeman, bassist Andy Prince and drummer Tim Very. Former drummer Jeremiah Edmond parted ways with the band in January 2010 to focus on his family and on running the band's record label, Favorite Gentlemen. The band's original bassist, Jonathan Corley, parted ways with the band in 2013. They have released several extended plays and five studio albums: I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child (2006), Mean Everything to Nothing (2009), Simple Math (2011), Cope (2014), and Hope (2014). They are signed to independent record label Favorite Gentlemen Recordings, which is distributed through Sony Music Entertainment.
Manchester Orchestra originated in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. They are named after the English city of Manchester, a city frequently viewed as bohemian and rich in musical history (The Smiths, The Fall, The Buzzcocks, The Stone Roses, Joy Division, Oasis, New Order, Happy Mondays, Magazine, Inspiral Carpets). Feeling increasingly alienated at his "small-town-Georgia, Christian high school" named Providence Christian Academy, in suburban Atlanta, the band's lead singer Andy Hull became so frustrated that he spent his senior year studying at home. He also wrote and recorded his first full-length album in 2004 while studying during his last year of high school.

Bad Book's Andy Hull and Kevin Devine perform an acoustic version of their tune "Please Move" in the offices of Topspin media in Santa Monica, CA. Enjoy!
"The song is about two brothers trying to escape a fire. We tried to create something that told less of an immediate story and caused more of a gut reaction. Something to be interpreted without laying it all out in front of you. It's also quite terrifying. Like somebody was digging and found this VHS artifact in the ground." - Andy Hull (Manchester Orchestra) Top Notch is the first release from Manchester Orchestra's 4th album 'COPE', set for release on the 1st April via Lomo Vista. "The video conveys the sinister scenario of the song in a fragmented manner. It plays with suggestion and decay, hopefully leaving you with a lasting mental impression." - John Minton
