Green Mountain
Green Mountain is a common name for "The Peak", the highest point on Ascension Island, which has gained some fame for claims that it is one of very few large-scale artificial forests.
History and vegetation
Many early 19th-century accounts, including Charles Darwin's (July 1836), described the volcanic island as barren with very few plants, some of them endemic to the island, not to be found anywhere else. Scientists estimate the island's native vascular plants to be between 25 and 30 species, 10 of them endemic to Ascension (Ashmole 2000, Gray et al. 2005). This impoverished flora is a consequence of the age of the island (only 1 million years old) and isolation (over 1,500 kilometres (930 mi) - from any major landmass). Then, in 1843, the British plant collector Joseph Dalton Hooker visited the island with Sir James Clark Ross's Antarctica expedition. Hooker proposed a plan to plant the island with vegetation to attempt to increase rainfall and make life more bearable for the garrison that was stationed there (see Duffey 1964). Crucially he saw the appointment of a farm superintendent as being the key to success.

Vermont (
i/vərˈmɒnt/ or /vɜːrˈmɒnt/,locally: [vɚˈmɑ̟̃(ʔ)]) is a state in the New England region of the northeastern part of the United States. It is bordered to the west by New York, the south by Massachusetts, the east by New Hampshire and to the north by the Canadian province of Quebec. Vermont is the 6th smallest in area and the 2nd least populous of the 50 United States. It is the least populous of the six New England states and the only one not bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Lake Champlain covers half of Vermont's western border, while the Connecticut River forms most of Vermont's eastern boundary with New Hampshire. The Green Mountains run north-south the length of the state.
With a population of 7,671, the state capital of Montpelier is the least populous state capital in the US. Vermont's most populous city is Burlington. With a 2013 population of 42,284, Burlington is the least populous city in the United States to be the largest city within a state. Burlington's metropolitan area has a population of 214,796. Vermont is one of the most racially homogeneous states; 94.3% of its population identified as non-Hispanic white in 2010.

West Virginia
West Virginia i/ˌwɛst vərˈdʒɪnjə/ is a state located in the Appalachian region of the Southern United States. It is bordered by Virginia to the southeast, Kentucky to the southwest, Ohio to the northwest, Pennsylvania to the north (and, slightly, east), and Maryland to the northeast. West Virginia is the 41st largest by area and the 38th most populous of the 50 United States. The capital and largest city is Charleston.
West Virginia became a state following the Wheeling Conventions of 1861, in which delegates from some Unionist counties of northwestern Virginia decided to break away from Virginia during the American Civil War, although they included many secessionist counties in the new state. West Virginia was admitted to the Union on June 20, 1863, and was a key Civil War border state. West Virginia was the only state to form by separating from a Confederate state, the first to separate from any state since Maine separated from Massachusetts, and was one of two states formed during the American Civil War (the other being Nevada, which separated from Utah Territory).

J Day Off-Road - Pepsi John Ruffo Memorial GP
High in the green mountain state, the j day crew had a tough time adjusting to the harsh rocky conditions that the track had to offer. With the track being so fast, but yet so rocky, it presented challenges for riders of all ages. The extreme section took many riders by surprise as they could either jump the tire section, or roll them, causing mayhem, which is what JDay is all about. I hope you enjoy.

Vermont Cliff Jumping : Huntington Gorge
The fourth Vermont Cliff Jumping "Joint" shot 100% at the infamous Huntington Gorge in Richmond Vermont! The Gorge has a notorious reputation because it has taken the lives of many swimmers and cliff jumpers alike who were unaware of the sheer power that the current here can cause.... the Cliffs range in height from 10 feet all the way to 50 feet or so which is the biggest jump that you have to clear about 10-15 feet of rocks outward to hit the hole! This is probably the craziest "Joint" yet in terms of Tricks so enjoy! A warning of advice... NEVER EVER swim at the Gorge after a rainstorm or the days following severe rain let alone any rain. It's so sad to find out that young people our age have been sucked to the bottom never to see the light of day again..... Respect the power of Mother...

With the track being so fast, but yet so rocky, it presented challenges for riders of all ages. The extreme section took many riders by surprise as they could either jump the tire section, or roll them, causing mayhem, which is what JDay is all about. I hope you enjoy.

After a seven hour train ride from NYC to the green mountain state I arrived in the gorgeous little city of Burlington – right in the first days of spring. It was actually my first real stay in the States, since I've only been to NYC for a single week before. Burlington however, welcomed me with open arms and I had the privilege to jump right into this wild and openhearted student community. After three days of partying hard my visit reached its climax when I joined my lovely cousin and her beautiful friends to the UVM Spring Fest. In the middle of the show and pretty high I finally realized that I was actually right in the journey of my life – I sold all my stuff back in Liechtenstein a few weeks before. I have been to bigger and crazier festivals before, but never have I felt the desire for freedom of my generation so much.
This is my tribute to that overwhelming day in Burlington. Love you guys

The fourth Vermont Cliff Jumping "Joint" shot 100% at the infamous Huntington Gorge in Richmond Vermont! The Gorge has a notorious reputation because it has taken the lives of many swimmers and cliff jumpers alike who were unaware of the sheer power that the current here can cause.... the Cliffs range in height from 10 feet all the way to 50 feet or so which is the biggest jump that you have to clear about 10-15 feet of rocks outward to hit the hole! This is probably the craziest "Joint" yet in terms of Tricks so enjoy!
A warning of advice... NEVER EVER swim at the Gorge after a rainstorm or the days following severe rain let alone any rain. It's so sad to find out that young people our age have been sucked to the bottom never to see the light of day again..... Respect the power of Mother Nature people~

Solo Hiking the Lye Brook Wilderness - 2 Days in Vermont's Green Mountains
Want to hike with less crowds during peak season? For this adventure, we visit the Lye Brook Wilderness in Southern Vermont's Green Mountain National Forest. This was actually a loop hike that I managed to scrap together at the last minute, due to some bad weather intervening with my plans to finally hike Virginia's Shenandoah National Park. Luckily, Vermont had 2 days of beautiful sunny weather, so into the hatchback we went, for another 2 day adventure. Overlanding through Green Mountain National Forest
My wife and I set out on our first remote overland adventure in 2013 and have been addicted ever since. Although we do some trips that involve driving thousands of miles, we frequently take off for a quick weekend to one of the many stunning settings that New England has to offer. I think this video captures the feel of one of those places - the Green Mountain National Forest in Vermont. This is the first time we’ve taken any video of an excursion and shows what it’s like to drive away from it all.

Want to hike with less crowds during peak season? For this adventure, we visit the Lye Brook Wilderness in Southern Vermont's Green Mountain National Forest. This was actually a loop hike that I managed to scrap together at the last minute, due to some bad weather intervening with my plans to finally hike Virginia's Shenandoah National Park. Luckily, Vermont had 2 days of beautiful sunny weather, so into the hatchback we went, for another 2 day adventure.
The Green Mountain National Forest is a 399,151 acre swath of land consisting of 8 Federal Wilderness Areas. These are areas with special protections to ensure a minimal impact from us pesky humans, including restrictions on trail maintenance. This tends to make for more rugged trails, which from my perspective, means for interesting terrain and less foot traffic. Increasingly, I've come to rely on this areas to increase my odds of a more secluded experience during the peak summer hiking season.
Our wilderness area of choice for this hike is the Lye Brook Wilderness, a 17,841 acre outside of Manchester, in Southern Vermont. Established in 1975 as Federal Wilderness in 1975, the majority of it's land resides on a high, 2,500 foot elevation plateau and is home to black bear, moose, pine martin, bobcat, deer, and various species of birds.
I left after work around 3pm on a Wednesday afternoon and managed to get the trusty VW parked at the trailhead by 9:30pm for a decent night's sleep. My plan was to do a loop hike and return to the car on day two, after visiting a couple deep woods ponds.
I began by following an old ATV trail to the Long Trail / Appalachian Trail to the Branch Pond Trail where I passed the Douglas Shelter on my way to the 48 acre Bourne Pond. Having gotten an early start and makiing good time, I explored the Bourne Pond camp site, but decided to keep moving along the Lye Brook Trail towards Stratton Pond, Vermont's largest body of water along the Long Trail. Things were made more interesting on the way there due to the damage caused in 2009 by a Microburst, which caused significant destruction and flooding along the Lye Brook Trail. Coupled with the fact that trails may only be maintained by hand tools within Federal Wilderness Areas, repair has been slow, but at this point it's at least passable.
Eventually I made it to the North Shore Tent Site to set up camp before heading up to the summit of Stratton Mountain with a lighter load. This is a fairly popular camp site with direct access from the adjacent Long Trail / Appalachian Trail, but luckily I was the first to arrive and grab a sweet spot by the pond. This was would be my first experience sharing an established tent site like this, but even I have to be social sometimes, .. I guess.
After setting up a decent bivouac site and cooking up some lunch, I headed South along the Long Trail towards the fire tower at Southern Vermont's highest peak, Stratton Mountain. At an elevation of 3,936 feet, the fire tower affords excellent views covering four states: the Green Mountains to the North, the White Mountains to the Northeast, the Berkshires to the South, and the Adirondacks to the West. Total Mileage for Day 1: 18 miles
After a good nights sleep, I headed back towards the car on day two along the more traveled Long Trail through another section of the Lye Brook Wilderness. Total Mileage for day two was a modest 8 miles, which I covered a little faster than expected due to the more well maintained trail conditions. Total trip mileage was 26 miles. Trip time start to finish, 29.5 hours. Again, a bit faster than I wanted, but it did leave me with extra time to explore Vermont my car looking for that perfect cheeseburger....

Tokyo (東京), Japan, is one of the world's greatest cities, and there's so much to do and see when you visit. From temples and shrines, to gardens and museums, you'll never run out of attractions. Out of all the things you could do, I've chosen a top 25 list for this awesome city (and just so you know food is my first choice in Tokyo)!
1. Ameya-Yokochō (アメヤ横丁) - A giant open air market that offers clothes, cosmetics, food, and restaurants and bars.
2. Meiji Shrine (明治神宮) - This Shinto shrine, surrounded by beautiful forest, is extremely significant.
3. Ryogoku Kokugikan (両国国技館) - Even if it's not fight season, you can go to the free sumo museum and eat sumo chankonabe.
4. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden (新宿御苑) - The garden is a beautiful attraction in Tokyo, with French gardens, Japanese gardens, and a green house.
5. Ginza (銀座) / Yurakucho (有楽町) - Ginza is a great area of town for upscale shopping and dining, while Yurakucho is famous for Izakaya bars and restaurants under the railroad track.
6. Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (東京都庁舎) - There are a lot of things to do in Tokyo where you have to pay, but here, you can go to the 45th floor for free.
7. Tsukiji Market (築地市場) - One of the most famous attractions in all of Tokyo is the Tsukiji Market (築地市場), the biggest seafood market in the world.
8. Shibuya (渋谷区) - With the busiest intersection in the world, Shibuya (渋谷区) is also home to shopping and restaurant.
9. Sumida River (隅田川) - At Tokyo's Sumida River, you can either just walk around the park and enjoy the riverside views, or you can take the Tokyo Cruise in a boat.
10. Tokyo Imperial Palace (皇居) - This is the home of the emperor of Japan. To enter the grounds, you have to make a tour booking on the official website
11. Ueno Park (上野公園), Tokyo National Museum (東京国立博物館) - Ueno Park is a huge public park in Tokyo with shrines, gardens and a number of museums.
12. Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー) - They call it Tokyo's biggest attractions. It's a huge communications tower with various viewing decks and galleries.
13. Harajuku (原宿), Takeshita Street (竹下通り) - Famous for its street market and cosplay that takes place, this is a place in the city to see and be seen.
14. Senso-ji (金龍山浅草寺) - Visiting this temple is one of the top things to do in Tokyo, frequented by both tourists and religious pilgrims. It's the oldest temple in Tokyo.
15. Edo-Tokyo Museum (江戸東京博物館) - It looks a little like a UFO, but it's one of Tokyo's main museums, that aims to preserve the history of the city.
16. Fine Dining - Let's just face it, Tokyo is one of the best cities in the world for high class dining - atmosphere, presentation, food, it's all just stunning!
17. Akihabara Electric Town (秋葉原電気街) - If you love electronics and gaming, you're going to love the area of Akihabara. You'll also find those infamous maid cafes here.
18. Tokyo Stock Exchange (東京証券取引所) - Another free attraction in Tokyo is to be a guest at the stock exchange where you can see the Japanese Nikkei being traded.
19. Roppongi (六本木) - Home to the Mori Art Museum and a hotspot for nightlife in the city, Roppongi is an exciting area of town.
20. Odaiba (お台場) - This area of Tokyo is full of things to do like Legoland, and Palette Town, an indoor amusement park. It's also known as Tokyo's entertainment island.
21. Yoyogi Park (代々木公園) - Located next to Meiji Shrine, and just a short distance from Harajuku and Shinjuku, this park is popular for exercise and dance.
22. Nezu (根津), Yanaka (谷中 (台東区) - Tokyo is a truly modern city, but there are a couple places like Nezu and Yanaka that have held strong to their traditional and cultural roots.
23. Onsen (温泉) - You've got to strip down naked before you can enter a Japanese public bath.
24. Mount Takao (高尾山) - Just 50 km from central Tokyo, this mountain is popular for climbing and is a sacred religious mountains. Makes a good day trip from Tokyo.
25. Food - Finally, food is the reason I visited Japan, and I think eating is by all means one of the best things to do in Tokyo. Food is everywhere, and not only does it taste amazing, but the care that goes into Japanese cuisine is incredible.

An adventure into an amazing country. 4 seasons packed into 15 days
The Summer: the Gobi is not just a desert. Is a unique region comprising of mountains, sand dunes, grass lands and flat pans. Life here is though not only physically (due to the arid climate) but also mentally: before reaching the mountains and the dunes, the so-called "middle Gobi" is an immense flat pan with no landmarks for miles. It's mental as it seems to be in an infinite area that will never end.
The Spring: the Orhon valley. This is the Mongolia typical postcard. Green land and blue sky dotted with white ghers (the local typical tents) and clouds. Full of livestock, every valley in the region shows the nomadic life of Mongolians that has been going on for centuries. In the town of Karkhorin, very little ruins bring your mind to the era of Chinggis Khan when Mongolians run for more than two centuries the largest empire that ever existed in human history.
The Autumn: as we moved North to reach the Hovsgol lake, we had to pass through a range of mountains. The weather turned rainy, grey and cold as if we were on a November day in Europe. Crossing rivers started to became a concern and mud appeared on all trails. Rain never stopped for 2 days.
The Winter: on the highest pass the rain became snow. On the Zoolongyin pass, we got stuck with our cars for more than 3 hours. Trying to get the cars out of the snow and mud was though. Eventually we did manage to get over.
The Spring again: lake Hovsgol is Mongolian's largest lake and beach holiday place. Here we abandoned the green Mongolian valley to enter the Taiga, the coniferous forest. We are close to the border with Russian Siberia here

My wife and I set out on our first remote overland adventure in 2013 and have been addicted ever since. Although we do some trips that involve driving thousands of miles, we frequently take off for a quick weekend to one of the many stunning settings that New England has to offer. I think this video captures the feel of one of those places - the Green Mountain National Forest in Vermont. This is the first time we’ve taken any video of an excursion and shows what it’s like to drive away from it all.

J Day Off-Road - Pepsi John Ruffo Memorial GP
High in the green mountain state, the j day crew had a tough time adjusting to the harsh rocky conditions that the track had to offer. With the track being so fast, but yet so rocky, it presented challenges for riders of all ages. The extreme section took many riders by surprise as they could either jump the tire section, or roll them, causing mayhem, which is what JDay is all about. I hope you enjoy.

Vermont Cliff Jumping : Huntington Gorge
The fourth Vermont Cliff Jumping "Joint" shot 100% at the infamous Huntington Gorge in Richmond Vermont! The Gorge has a notorious reputation because it has taken the lives of many swimmers and cliff jumpers alike who were unaware of the sheer power that the current here can cause.... the Cliffs range in height from 10 feet all the way to 50 feet or so which is the biggest jump that you have to clear about 10-15 feet of rocks outward to hit the hole! This is probably the craziest "Joint" yet in terms of Tricks so enjoy! A warning of advice... NEVER EVER swim at the Gorge after a rainstorm or the days following severe rain let alone any rain. It's so sad to find out that young people our age have been sucked to the bottom never to see the light of day again..... Respect the power of Mother...

High in the green mountain state, the j day crew had a tough time adjusting to the harsh rocky conditions that the track had to offer. With the track being so fast, but yet so rocky, it presented challenges for riders of all ages. The extreme section took many riders by surprise as they could either jump the tire section, or roll them, causing mayhem, which is what JDay is all about. I hope you enjoy.

After a seven hour train ride from NYC to the green mountain state I arrived in the gorgeous little city of Burlington – right in the first days of spring. It was actually my first real stay in the States, since I've only been to NYC for a single week before. Burlington however, welcomed me with open arms and I had the privilege to jump right into this wild and openhearted student community. After three days of partying hard my visit reached its climax when I joined my lovely cousin and her beautiful friends to the UVM Spring Fest. In the middle of the show and pretty high I finally realized that I was actually right in the journey of my life – I sold all my stuff back in Liechtenstein a few weeks before. I have been to bigger and crazier festivals before, but never have I felt the desire for freedom of my generation so much.
This is my tribute to that overwhelming day in Burlington. Love you guys

The fourth Vermont Cliff Jumping "Joint" shot 100% at the infamous Huntington Gorge in Richmond Vermont! The Gorge has a notorious reputation because it has taken the lives of many swimmers and cliff jumpers alike who were unaware of the sheer power that the current here can cause.... the Cliffs range in height from 10 feet all the way to 50 feet or so which is the biggest jump that you have to clear about 10-15 feet of rocks outward to hit the hole! This is probably the craziest "Joint" yet in terms of Tricks so enjoy!
A warning of advice... NEVER EVER swim at the Gorge after a rainstorm or the days following severe rain let alone any rain. It's so sad to find out that young people our age have been sucked to the bottom never to see the light of day again..... Respect the power of Mother Nature people~
