On July 5 New York Philharmonic musicians participated in a session for Very Young Composers of Shanghai, ages 10–15, as part of the Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Residency Partnership. Philharmonic Artistic Director, Very Young Composers, Jon Deak (red shirt) guided a group rhythm exercise, Philharmonic violinist Kuan Cheng Lu demonstrated melodic range, and Assistant Principal Timpani / Percussionist Kyle Zerna showed what was special about Chinese cymbals.

On June 10, 2017, at David Geffen Hall, Alan Gilbert conducted the final subscription concert of his tenure as Music Director. He led the Orchestra, joined by musicians from orchestras around the world, in Mahler’s Symphony No. 7, celebrating the power of music to build bridges and unite people across borders. The musicians included members of orchestras from Australia, Brazil, China, Cuba, France, Germany, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Turkey, Venezuela, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The concert was broadcast live on Facebook.

capable of bringing people together who are supposed to be bitter enemies? Can music play a role in the political game?

The film Americans in Pyongyang accompanies members of the New York Philharmonic on its historic trip to North Korea´s capital, Pyongyang. This trip was by no means a simple one. Many concerns and doubts arose just before departing for the most inaccessible country in the world – a country that consistently violates human rights and that has been categorized by George W. Bush as a key member in the “axis of evil“. The documentary by Ayelet Heller is not a political manifesto but a story about people who are brought a little closer to each other by virtue of music. Americans in Pyongyang shows, almost non-verbally, that music
knows no borders and that it can reach and melt hearts and unite people. The 48-hour trip was memorable to all involved: Korean and American musicians meet on stage for the first time, performing together with technical brilliance, hardly speaking,
just exchanging quick glances and communicating with body language. One of the musicians said: “Something profound has happened between two peoples. It was astounding.“

New York Philharmonic
The New York Philharmonic, officially the Philharmonic-Symphony Society of New York, Inc., globally known as New York Philharmonic Orchestra (NYPO) or New York Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra, is a symphony orchestra based in New York City in the United States. It is one of the leading American orchestras popularly referred to as the "Big Five". The Philharmonic's home is David Geffen Hall, formerly known as Avery Fisher Hall until September 2015, located in New York's Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
Organized in 1842, the orchestra is one of America's oldest musical institutions. Its record-setting 14,000th concert was given in December 2004.
The Philharmonic's Music Director is Alan Gilbert. Appointed in 2009, Gilbert plans to leave the directorship in 2017, prior to a major renovation planned for David Geffen Hall.Jaap van Zweden has been appointed to succeed Mr. Gilbert in 2017. Matthew VanBesien is the orchestra's President.

York
York (
i/ˈjɔːrk/) is a historic walled city at the confluence of the rivers Ouse and Foss in North Yorkshire, England, and is the traditional county town of Yorkshire to which it gives its name. The city has a rich heritage and has provided the backdrop to major political events in England throughout much of its two millennia of existence. The city offers a wealth of historic attractions, of which York Minster is the most prominent, and a variety of cultural and sporting activities making it a popular tourist destination for millions.
The city was founded by the Romans as Eboracum in 71 AD. It became the capital of the Roman province of Britannia Inferior, and later of the kingdoms of Northumbria and Jórvík. In the Middle Ages, York grew as a major wool trading centre and became the capital of the northern ecclesiastical province of the Church of England, a role it has retained.
In the 19th century, York became a hub of the railway network and a confectionery manufacturing centre. In recent decades, the economy of York has moved from being dominated by its confectionery and railway-related industries to one that provides services. The University of York and health services have become major employers, whilst tourism has become an important element of the local economy.

New World
The New World is one of the names used for the Western Hemisphere, specifically the Americas (including nearby islands such as those of the Caribbean and Bermuda).
The term originated in the early 16th century after Europeans made landfall in what would later be called the Americas in the age of discovery, expanding the geographical horizon of classical geographers, who had thought of the world as consisting of Africa, Europe, and Asia, collectively now referred to as the Old World (aka Afro-Eurasia).
The term was first coined by Florentine explorer Amerigo Vespucci. The Americas were also referred to as the "fourth part of the world".
Usage
The terms "Old World" vs. "New World" are meaningful in historical context and for the purpose of distinguishing the world's major ecozones, and to classify plant and animal species that originated therein.
One can speak of the "New World" in a historical context, e.g., when discussing the voyages of Christopher Columbus, the Spanish conquest of Yucatán and other events of the colonial period. For lack of alternatives, the term is also still useful to those discussing issues which concern the Americas and the nearby oceanic islands, such as Bermuda and Clipperton Island, collectively. This usage is seen as problematic by many for its narrowness of perspective and implication that discovery by European explorers was the beginning of history for the Americas.

Turn on the Bright Lights
Turn On the Bright Lights is the debut studio album by the American rock band Interpol, released in August 2002. The album was recorded in November 2001 at Tarquin Studios in Connecticut, and was co-produced, mixed and engineered by Peter Katis and Gareth Jones. It was released on August 19, 2002 in the United Kingdom and August 20 in the United States, through independent record label Matador Records. Upon release, the record peaked at number 101 on the UK Albums Chart. It reached number 158 on the Billboard 200 in the United States, as well as spending 73 weeks in the Billboard Independent Albums, peaking at number five.
"PDA", "NYC", "Obstacle 1" and "Say Hello to the Angels" were the singles from Turn On the Bright Lights, and a video was shot for each with the exception of "Say Hello to the Angels".
The album was certified Gold by the RIAA on August 29, 2011 for shipments of 500,000 copies.
A remastered version of the album was released in 2012 to commemorate its tenth anniversary. It featured additional material including demo recordings of several tracks, the bonus songs previously available on international releases and a DVD of live performances and music videos.

On June 10, 2017, at David Geffen Hall, Alan Gilbert conducted the final subscription concert of his tenure as Music Director. He led the Orchestra, joined by musicians from orchestras around the world, in Mahler’s Symphony No. 7, celebrating the power of music to build bridges and unite people across borders. The musicians included members of orchestras from Australia, Brazil, China, Cuba, France, Germany, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Turkey, Venezuela, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The concert was broadcast live on Facebook. The film Americans in Pyongyang accompanies members of the New York Philharmonic on its historic trip to North Korea´s capital, Pyongyang. This trip was by no means a simple one. Many concerns and doubts arose just before departing for the most inaccessible country in the world – a country that consistently violates human rights and that has been categorized by George W. Bush as a key member in the “axis of evil“. The documentary by Ayelet Heller is not a political manifesto but a story about people who are brought a little closer to each other by virtue of music. Americans in Pyongyang shows, almost non-verbally, that music
knows no borders and that it can reach and melt hearts and unite people. The 48-hour trip was memorable to all involved: Korean and American musicians meet on stage for the first time, performing together with technical brilliance, hardly speaking,
just exchanging quick glances and communicating with body language. One of the musicians said: “Something profound has happened between two peoples. It was astounding.“

The Village used to be a bohemian neighborhood that drew artists and musicians, but today you're more likely to find upper middle class families living here. Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town.
You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface.
And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. Manhattan Island is the city’s most well known district and the Rockefeller Center in Midtown is often referred to as the heart of the New York. Nearby the Roman Catholic Saint Patrick´s Cathedral is the largest and most magnificent church in the United States. The Grand Central Terminal divides Park Avenue and is a huge station with which the railroad kings, the Venderbilts, left an indelible mark. The huge hall, with its magnificent vaulted ceiling in Beaux Arts style, has been the city’s central railway station for twelve lines since 1913. The confines of Chinatown are inhabited by a hundred and fifty thousand Chinese from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, most of whom are unable to speak a word of English. Chinese characters wherever one looks and restaurants and Asian stores on every street corner. The famous Wall Street was named after a wall which in the early days protected the growing city against attack by Native American Indians. However, the roots of its subsequent claim to fame were laid in 1792. The young state desperately needed investment and therefore the powers that be decided to issue bonds. Close by, on a small island, is New York’s most famous landmark, the Statue Of Liberty. The head of Lady Liberty leads to the crown from which there are stunning views from several windows. New York City is most certainly unique. A city that’s very much alive and kicking, self-confident and always a surprise!

I will do more in depth videos on neighborhoods like Harlem, Brooklyn, Lower East Side which will include shopping, entertainment, eating, all that :) But for now I hope you find this helpful and excited about exploring NYC. I didn't "forget" to list anything. This is just the first video and trust their are a million things to do. Sorry for not including Brooklyn. Need to get around? Rent a bike! I have yet to try this but it seems fabulous! Save your feet and cover more ground. These bikes and bike spots are all over the city. A perfect way to burn calories and see more of the city faster.

Summer in NYC isn't really summer until you get your butt on a rooftop. My pick was Jimmy Rooftop. Sunday's after 3pm are bomb! Amazing music courtesy of DJ Cato. I believe it is doorman discretion, which means, dress your best and don't travel with a bunch of dudes. You get an amazing view of the sun setting over the Hudson River and you get to splash around in the pool if you so choose. I chose this spot because I used to work here and loved it!

Yes! Go to Church! After you party it up Saturday night or Sunday afternoon bring your sinful behind to this awesome church! You don't have to be religious to attend. This is a non-denominal church and people from all over the world come here for the amazing sermons and not to mention the interior. This Church is a converted theatre and a must see. Now go and pray!

He led the Orchestra, joined by musicians from orchestras around the world, in Mahler’s Symphony No. 7, celebrating the power of music to build bridges and unite people across borders. "On February 26, 2008, the world watched as the New York Philharmonic gave the first performance by an American orchestra in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea". Those lucky enough to be present will never forget that historic evening, when people from two long-divided nations were united through the beauty and power of music. By the end of the final encore, both the audience and the musicians onstage stood waving to each other in a new-found spirit of understanding. We are honored and pleased that through this DVD we can share this transformative experience with new audiences for years to come."

The film Americans in Pyongyang accompanies members of the New York Philharmonic on its historic trip to North Korea´s capital, Pyongyang. This trip was by no means a simple one. Many concerns and doubts arose just before departing for the most inaccessible country in the world – a country that consistently violates human rights and that has been categorized by George W. Bush as a key member in the “axis of evil“. The documentary by Ayelet Heller is not a political manifesto but a story about people who are brought a little closer to each other by virtue of music. Americans in Pyongyang shows, almost non-verbally, that music
knows no borders and that it can reach and melt hearts and unite people. The 48-hour trip was memorable to all involved: Korean and American musicians meet on stage for the first time, performing together with technical brilliance, hardly speaking,
just exchanging quick glances and communicating with body language. One of the musicians said: “Something profound has happened between two peoples. It was astounding.“
