The Eatwell Assistive Tableware This set of tableware was created by a woman named Sha Yao after she found herself feeling helpless because of her grandmother’s Alzheimer's diagnosis. It was difficult for her grandmother to eat as the disease affects not only the brain but the body’s functions as well. So she created this set to help those suffering from diseases and physical disabilities in order to “bring back the joy of sharing a meal together.” 7. The Solar Roof Unlike traditional solar panels, the solar roof is rather a group of tiles that effortlessly blend together in order to absorb the power of the sun whereas older solar panel models are bulkier metal boxes. This product is the result of a collaboration between SolarCity and Tesla and released a statement saying these roofs will be able sometime in 2017. The switch to solar energy to power homes could be a revolutionary one if more people cared about the environment. 6. Mattel’s Barbie Dolls New Barbie dolls might not seem like they’re such a great invention as the famous blonde has been around for decades ever since she was first released back in 1959. However, this new line of Mattel’s Barbie dolls is actually amazing. The company decided to revamp barbie’s look by creating an inclusive line that features three different body sizes along with different hair colors, textures, skin tones, and eye colors. Diversity is important for growing children and so is being represented. If you’re complaining about representation, chances are you’re already represented. 5. The Nike Hyperadapt 1.0 This futuristic shoe was debuted earlier this year and then made available for purchase later on. The amazing thing about this shoe is that it is completely self-tying. The laces actually tighten automatically when the wearer’s heel pushes a certain sensor. This is a major step as this technology is most revolutionary for those who suffer from certain neurological disorders and physical disabilities that affect their body’s and leave them with a limited range of movement. 4. The Microsoft HoloLens The HoloLens is kind of like the PlayStation VR headset but also not really. See, the VR headset is a more immersive experience that allows you to specifically enjoy your gameplay, whereas the HoloLens is more like having a computer strapped to your face. It’s capable of opening up multiple applications and web browsers at once, while also letting you watch videos and play small interactive games that use your actual environment. It’s more augmented reality, really. 3. The IKO Prosthetic Arm This prosthetic arm is actually designed for children in mind or to be more precise children who enjoy building with legos. The prosthetic was created by Carlos Arturo Torres Tovar as a way for kids to overcome any uncomfortable feelings of having to wear a prosthetic and to improve their self-confidence by encouraging their creativity. The hand portion is able to detach and the wearer’s creation can be attached. 2. A New Type of Bandage A 13-year-old girl named Anushka Maiknaware was granted $15,000 dollars from Google for her invention of a bandage that comes equipped tiny monitors that detect moisture and notifies you when they need to be changed. The 7th grader also won a year-long mentorship from Lego and she hopes to get her bandage mass produced for use after she figures out how to get them approved by the FDA. Since the body doesn’t make its own insulin, the wearer would still have to manually up their insulin intake before meals.
